Chapter 8 Forest
Elos was busy with food under the tree. In his opinion, life and death were about food and sleeping, and life was just a bowl of food and a bed.
Joey was still sitting on the tree, and she wanted to look at the surrounding mountains, the moon, and the spotted leaves.
From this point in the forest and going elsewhere, you can occasionally see two birds leaping past, with dumb chirping from far to near, trees and mountains gathering each other, surrounding the entire basin in the center, blocking the cold and humid air flow from afar, and maintaining the overall temperature of the forest.
The cold winter seems to have never arrived in the forest shrouded by snow-capped mountains. There are dense green leaves in the gap between the trees, approaching each other and ringing inch by inch with the wind.
Joey was more concerned about the way out here. She raised her monocular lens and looked at the lens within her sight, constantly changing directions. She realized that the snow-capped mountains here were crowded, leaving only a few gaps in the southwest. If they wanted to get out of here, they could only go there.
She planned to tell Elos about the news, after all, they are now a pair of people in distress.
Airos struggled to save his sticky food by the fire, and he nodded with satisfaction until he took a bite with the spoon he brought into his stomach.
"Airos, we might have to consider leaving here early." Joey sat down and preached.
"Don't worry, eat some first." Elos handed Joey a spoon.
Although Joey was afraid of the sticky ball made by Elos, she was indeed a little unsatisfied because of her stomach. She could only bite the bullet and spoon it with a bite. The taste was a bit strange, but it was not yet unbearable, and Joey continued to eat a few more bites.
Elos made a gesture, took out two more pieces of rice and potatoes and put them on the fire to bake, and then he said, "What did you want to say just now."
"We are located in a basin, surrounded by mountains, and there are only a few roads to go out in the southwest. We need to go back quickly to find our car and food."
"Well, then don't you look for the dragon's corpse?"
"Don't you see it all if the dragon is not here?" Joey preached.
"Okay, but how did you know that there is news about the dragon's corpse here."
"This news comes from a friend of mine who is said to have received news from a secret communication organization."
"It seems that you are very worried. You dare to believe such uncertain news."
"Try your luck." Joey began to organize his bags.
...
Neither of them followed Joey's previous warning and left the forest as soon as possible.
After a meal, Joey and Elos took a nap on the trunk of a tree. After waking up, it was almost dawn, and the glory of dawn spread equally to the land and treetops.
Ailos opened his sleepy eyes and wrapped his thin clothes tightly around him, preparing to turn to sleep for a while, but in a daze, he saw white objects floating in the air.
The white object happened to hang in front of him, hanging from a red thread. Alos immediately woke up. He saw clearly what the white object in front of him was. This was a letter, a letter sealed with red fire paint.
Alos encountered such an incident as soon as he woke up, which really made him feel a little unacceptable. He moved carefully and tried not to touch the letter. Until he moved to a safe position, he stood up and followed the red line that bound the fishing envelope and saw a branch of the tree he was lying on the other end of the red line.
Rubbing his eyes, Ailos looked to other parts of the forest. He found that these letters were not only his own place. On every tree in the forest, there were exactly the same letters hanging, and these letters were hung on the branches with red lines, like floating white ghosts.
Filled with the dawn light, thin mist appeared in the forest, and all the letters swayed slightly with the wind, which reminded Ailos of the wheatgrass in his hometown. He hurriedly woke Joey up and told her to pack up her things quickly and prepare to walk out of the forest.
"When did I fall asleep?" Joey clearly remembered that her last thought before falling asleep was to leave here, and she was packing her bags.
"You finished eating the rice and potatoes I had roasted and went to bed."
"But...I don't remember, I've eaten any rice potatoes?" Joey shouted in surprise.
"It seems we have encountered a mental attack." Ailos's face turned cold.
The wind blew much harder in the forest. Joey also packed up all the items. The two of them quickly began to set off on their way home. Because there were white letters hanging on all the trees, Alos did not dare to climb up the tree to check the direction, and could only walk according to Joey's previous judgment on the direction.
Along the way, they avoided some kind of touch or visual contact with these letters. For such strange events, both of them had sufficient experience in dealing with them. One came from the training of the academy, and the other came from the caution of survival in the wilderness.
The dawn forest was as quiet as a ghost, and the breeze was silent. The two of them walked through letters hanging by red ropes under the dark morning light. All the trees were trembling involuntarily, following some unknown rhythm. In the end, the whole forest began to shake.
The shaking caused a vibration. From the leaves to the branches, to the roots of the trees, a huge thunderous sound sounded like a torrent in the whole forest. The sound waves stirred up waves of unknown winds, blowing towards Elos and Joey like bone scrapers. Both of them had to wrap their mouths and noses tightly with their clothes, put on windproof glasses, and cover their ears.
Both of them tried to curl up and walk slowly, trying not to be affected by the changes in the forest, but the sound became louder and turned into a shrill cry, just like a new baby was born in every tree, making an unbearable cry to the world.
"This shouldn't be an illusion." Elos covered his ears tightly and preached to Joey loudly.
"No, something extremely strong is surging in this forest." Joey also responded loudly.
"What?"
"have no idea."
The exchange between the two ended here, and no one knew what had happened in this forest in just a few hours.
The crying continued, the trees began to shake off the leaves, and the fallen leaves were scattered like dust. The red rope letters hanging on the branches also began to become unstable and began to sway. In the swaying, these letters drew white afterimages. This was not because their speed suddenly became faster, but they slowly became blurred.
