Chapter 21 Company Commander
Perhaps because we knew that we were prepared, the Vietnamese army had never launched another attack after the failed sneak attack. After all, the Vietnamese army was also very clear that in this case, attacking a regiment of our army that had a geographical advantage with less than one battalion of troops, was almost no different from suicide, although our regiment had already suffered more than half of the casualties at this time.
I think there is part of the reason for this, because the Vietnamese army knew my existence. They shot their Red Flag Bearers at a distance of more than 400 meters, and they also knocked down several Vietnamese troops close to the Red Flag, almost causing them to lose their military flags... These are not something ordinary people can do in any case.
Therefore, these Vietnamese troops, which have always looked down on our combat quality, will inevitably re-evaluate our quality. Even if there are any follow-up plans, they must be very cautious to implement them.
I don't know how others were doing that night. In short, I slept beautifully after the war. When I woke up at dawn, I found that all the soldiers were yawning. They were so nervous that they couldn't sleep later. This is not their fault. On the first day of going to the battlefield and facing so many life and death on the first day, I think anyone would have such a performance. If they had experienced everything I had experienced on the Korean battlefield, such as marching while sleeping, and fighting the enemy almost constantly for seven, eight or even longer, then they would understand why I could sleep so soundly at this time.
In fact, I have the credit for this sniper rifle in my hand.
After trying the svd sniper rifle in his hand, he would hold it and smile almost when he dreamed. For a sniper, what else can be more attractive than a sniper with good performance and very good hand?
I don't think there will be any more, at least for this, I haven't found anything more worthy of my attention than it.
Since I came to this time and space, what I have been frustrated with is that I am not used to using guns in the army, such as the 56 and a half, and the Type 56 submachine gun... Both the shooting accuracy, range and power are far from the m1c I have used, and they are not even as good as the old-fashioned rifle Mosinnagan. If there is still Mosinnagan in our army, I would choose this old-fashioned rifle without hesitation.
Sometimes I wonder, how could the development of this weapon become more and more backward? Now I understand why it is because of it. It is not that the development of the weapon becomes more and more backward, but that the division of labor of the infantry is getting more and more detailed.
For an ordinary infantry, 56 and a half of the range of three or four hundred meters is enough. No matter how far the range is, it is a waste for those infantry with low shooting levels. In addition, most battles on the battlefield occur within a distance of three or four hundred meters, and may even be close at hand. Therefore, appropriately reducing the range of individual weapons and increasing their firing rate and capacity are actually a requirement of modern battlefields.
Of course, this is completely different for a sniper like me. That's why the Soviet Union had to develop such high-precision, long-range, and powerful SVD sniper rifle. It's just that our army did not imitate because it did not pay attention to snipers.
(Note: Our army's Type 79 sniper rifle is a copy of the Soviet-style SVD sniper rifle. It was only after seizing the SVD sniper rifle from the Vietnamese army in the 1979 counterattack. It started mass production in 1981 and played an important role in the Laoshan battlefield. There was a record of sniping the Vietnamese army in 1300 meters in actual combat.)
The sun gradually rose from the junction between the green mountains and the sky. First, a little dark red, and a few rays of light made the whole world dim. As it rose, the color also changed suddenly, vermilion, orange-yellow, lilac, and finally the whole earth became brilliant.
I have to admit that the scenery in Vietnam is beautiful, with green mountains, green jungle and fields everywhere. Of course, all of this is the result of looking into the distance. As long as we take a little back, what breaks into our eyes are corpses, and piles of green-headed flies hovering like bombers above the corpses, and many bugs that cannot call out what they are...
No one took away the bodies. The Vietnamese army did not dare to come up, nor did we dare to go down, because no one could guarantee whether there was a black muzzle waiting in the jungle or woods at the foot of the mountain. So the air soon filled with the disgusting smell of blood and corpse stinking.
Vietnam is unlike North Korea. When the temperature is low in winter, it will reach several dozen degrees below zero. Sometimes the corpse will not smell even if it is left on the position for a few months. The air in Vietnam is humid, and the temperature during the day is mostly above 30 degrees, so the corpse will soon become deteriorated and smelly, and it will smell in less than ten hours.
Our breakfast was done in this environment, with a compressed biscuit plus a box of canned vegetables. The other soldiers barely ate a little, in order to preserve their physical strength! I taught them these principles as early as the recruits camp. I just made things difficult for some of them. When they were allocating canned food, they thought canned meat was a good thing, so they tried their best to grab it or exchange it with other soldiers... Let's see! At this moment, the canned lids were raised, let alone eating it, smelling the smell, and seeing the color of the meat, they started to vomit...
"Plane leader..." Shunzi looked at me eating the canned vegetables in my hand with relish, and came up with a pale face, holding up the canned meat in my hand that had been opened and asked, "Can we... change another one with you... change another one!"
"Yeah!" I nodded, and changed the cans in my hands casually. Then I picked up a few pieces of meat and stuffed them into my mouth with one knife!
"Wow..." A bunch of things spurted out from Shunzi's mouth again, and then Shunzi rushed out of sight as if she was avoiding the plague.
Some people were so scared! Seeing this, I couldn't help but smile bitterly. If they had experienced a battlefield where someone was starved to death, I think they wouldn't have been like this now!
"There is a situation!" Just as I used the bayonet to march into the meat jar with all my strength, the voice of a hometown person came from the walkie-talkie on my left shoulder: "Planer Cui, a white flag is here! Do you want to kill him?"
While chewing, I turned around and saw that there was a Vietnamese army holding a white flag, and they were not equipped with weapons.
"Don't shoot, let him come up!" I ordered.
At the same time, I couldn't help but frown. With the tough attitude of the Vietnamese army towards the "traitor", it was difficult for me to understand how this Vietnamese army could have come here. Even if we didn't shoot him, his comrades would not let him go! Soon I quickly realized that he was not a "traitor", but a "messenger".
The one who came up was an eighteen-nine-year-old Vietnamese army with a thin face and a thin body. However, most Vietnamese people did this. This may be related to their malnutrition when they were young. After all, they have fought wars with France and the United States since World War II. The war has almost never stopped for decades. The country can be said to be poor. If it weren't for China and the Soviet Union transporting them food and bullets, they would have starved to death and were poor to death.
This can be seen from the corpses of the Vietnamese army on the slope. Most of their military uniforms were ragged, and some even charged barefootly. What made us feel strange was that these people had pairs of shoes on their waists. Later we learned that they were afraid of breaking their shoes during charge and were reluctant to wear them...
As soon as the Vietnamese army climbed up, they said nothing, stared at the SVD sniper rifle in my hand tightly. A fierce light flashed in their eyes and glared at me fiercely, as if they wanted to remember my face...
I smiled softly, knowing that it was because the Vietnamese army suffered a loss under my sniper rifle last night. He is now remembering his old hatred.
"Speak if you have anything!" I asked. At this time, I believed that he was not surrendering but had a purpose.
"Are you the commander of this army?" Unexpectedly, the Vietnamese army was not nervous at all. Not only did they not answer my words, they also asked back.
"No!" I replied simply. I knew he could tell from the sniper rifle that I was not a commander. No commander in this world would carry a sniper rifle!
"But!" I said to him with a grim smile: "If you don't say it now, then you will never say it!"
The Yue army was stunned for a moment and looked at me with a confused look on my face. So I quickly realized that this guy's Chinese is not as good as I thought. My "hiding a knife in my smile" threat is in vain...
Fortunately, Hu Shaowen followed and quickly expressed my meaning to him.
The Vietnamese army looked at me, then looked at the soldiers around them, nodded and handed me a piece of paper, and said in stiff Chinese: "We hope your army can give us a chance to carry the body..."
"Oh!" I understood this, but I really couldn't make a decision like this. I waved to Shunzi and said, "Take him to see Captain Zhang!"
"Yes!" Shunzi responded and signaled the Vietnamese army to follow him.
But unexpectedly, the Vietnamese army did not stare at me and gritted their teeth and asked, "Where did your gun come from?"
"I've received it! It's on this high ground!" I found that this guy's tone was a little unkind, and I seemed to understand something, narrowed my eyes and asked, "Who is he you?"
Others don’t know who “he” is in my words, but the Vietnamese army in front of me must know that I am referring to the sniper who died under my hands.
"It's my brother!" The Vietnamese army looked at me like a vicious wolf, and said in a slightly choked voice: "You killed him?"
"Yes!" I nodded and smiled, and then said, "My name is Cui Wei, remember!"
"Yes!" Yue Jun *** slammed the corner of his mouth and squeezed out a few words from his teeth: "My name is Ruan Mingzheng, I will avenge my brother one day!"
"Then you want you to live until that day!" I replied coldly.
"Let's go! You..." Shunzi was a little unhappy when he listened, and pushed him back with a butt.
The order was soon dropped: the Vietnamese army was allowed to collect corpses. When the Vietnamese army was wearing the flag of the "Red Cross", and there was no weapon carrying corpses with no more than fifty people, they were not allowed to fire. All units must remove landmines and strengthen vigilance to prevent the Vietnamese army from launching a deceptive attack.
However, the facts proved that "in case the Vietnamese army launched a deceptive attack" was completely unnecessary. The Vietnamese commander was also very clear that if they used the collection of corpses to launch an attack on the battlefield, they might succeed once or twice, but after three times... they could not even collect the corpses!
At the very point, the Vietnamese army is very similar to our army, that is, both sides attach great importance to the bodies of the martyrs, and sometimes even sacrifice a few people to regain their sacrificed comrades.
So both sides of the warring party will think of a question: If the other party does not allow the other party to contain the bodies of the martyrs, does that mean that we cannot recover the bodies of the martyrs ourselves?
It is precisely because of this reason that no matter how much hated the two sides fought in the future, they would do everything they could on the battlefield, but they showed a rare human nature in collecting corpses. So in the later stage, both sides formed a tacit understanding, that is, there was no need to send "entourages" to "apply" and "requests" each other with white flags. As long as the "Red Cross" is fought, a team with no weapons and no more than fifty people will be sent to the battlefield. Both sides will consciously not shoot, not ****. Of course, there will be some exceptions, and there are too many uncertainties in the matter on the battlefield.
The Vietnamese army's containment team came up soon. What surprised me and the soldiers was that most of the team were female soldiers, and they were wearing helmets and uniforms like other Vietnamese soldiers. This made the soldiers who had not seen women for a long time burst into tears. They would not go to see any other sightings. They all commented on the Vietnamese female soldiers, some smirked and some greeted them in a low voice, and some even whistled at them. Only Li Shuibo, the only one, looked pale, and helloed in sweat, and he would not dare to show it.
Seeing this, I couldn't help but shake my head, knowing that he had remembered something again. It seemed that this had become an insurmountable hurdle in his heart.
"Platform leader!" Looking at the female soldiers who came up to clean up the bodies, Al Ziri seemed to be a little pity: "Why did the Yue Japanese send a woman up, and they were still doing this job? If this is my woman, it would be strange if she wasn't scared to death!"
"What's so strange about this!" Hu Shaowen continued, "Listen to my mother, Vietnamese women may have done it! Transport wounded, transport ammunition... to do all kinds of work. There are also some female soldiers who follow the troops, the Vietnamese Japanese are called laundry workers. They help the troops wash clothes and cook during the day, and sleep with the soldiers at night..."
"Ah? Still... still sleeping?" Al Ziri asked a little disbelief: "You mean... that..."
"Yes!" Hu Shaowen nodded straightforwardly. This seemed to be a very common thing for him.
"Really... really that way?" Al Ziri still disbelief and asked hesitantly: "You mean... you can do anything with anyone?"
"Hi! I'll say Alzi Ri!" Shunzi listened, pointed to the Vietnamese female soldiers in front of the position and joked: "If you want to ask what's the truth, then just ask those Vietnamese female soldiers?"
With a coaxing sound, the soldiers followed Shunzi to make fun of it, making Alziri red and then stopped.
I believe Hu Shaowen's words are true. In fact, this is like North Korea during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea. In the war, too many men died, resulting in an imbalance in the ratio of men and women, and then a woman's social status will inevitably decline. "Scarcity is precious", this sentence is an unchanging truth, even if people are not "things".
Last night, there were more than 100 casualties from the Vietnamese army. The Vietnamese female soldiers came and went like this for two or three times. After more than half an hour, they disappeared without a trace in the reluctance of the soldiers' reluctance. The battlefield returned to its original quietness and solemnity, and only the sound of cannons from the north seemed to tell me that the main force was attacking Tongding in a intensive manner.
"Platform leader, platoon leader!" At this time, a communications soldier rushed to me from the traffic trench and said, "People are coming from above. Commander Zhang asked you and Captain Li to go there!"
"What? It's coming so soon?" Before I could answer, Shunzi asked anxiously, "Did you say what the punishment is?"
"This... I don't know either!" The communications soldier shook his head in embarrassment.
"Damn it!" Al Ziri stomped his gun into the trench and said, "Platform leader, if you want to punish us, let's go with you!"
"Yes! Let's go together!"
...
The soldiers surrounded each other.
"What are you doing? Let me go back!" I cursed with a stern face: "Have you forgotten that this is the battlefield? The Japanese devils are staring at each other! If they all go with me, who will fight? Be a deserter and give the position to the enemy, right? Let me go back to my own position!"
"yes!"
...
The soldiers had to return to their combat posts dejectedly.
"Platform Commander Cui!" Captain Li rushed over and waved to me. I knew I followed him and walked towards the regiment headquarters.
The regiment headquarters is located in a tunnel on the back slope of the 339 Highland. This tunnel was built by the Vietnamese army, and it is also the only tunnel we received in this battle from the Vietnamese army.
The traffic trench connecting the tunnel was basically well preserved, so we didn't spend much time to come to the regiment headquarters. After calling out and walking in, we saw a mess of telephones, radios, telephones, and documents...
"You two, come here!" Captain Zhang seemed to be in a bad mood, and his whole face was gloomy.
Commander Li looked at me and seemed to feel that this trip must be a little bit of luck, but I stood forward indifferently and shouted a report.
"This is Political Commissar Huang sent by his superiors!" Captain Zhang pointed to a soldier wearing glasses beside him and said, "He brought his superiors' opinions on you!"
Just as I was thinking about what was going on, I didn’t expect that Political Commissar Huang grabbed my hand and said, “You are Comrade Cui Wei! Your superiors have confirmed your record! So I decided to let you serve as the company commander of the fifth company, and Comrade Li Zhifu, the former company commander of the fifth company, serves as the deputy company commander!"
