Section 20 Diplomacy

Strong, violent, and extremely cruel. In the eyes of dwarves, ogres are such simple and direct creatures: they know what they want and use their brute force to seize what they want.

Originally, this nature would make them enemies of any race, but fortunately the ogres still have a little bit of rationality. Although their brains are a bit slow, they will eventually choose to give in when they encounter stronger opponents.

From this perspective, a lonely traveler or a weak team will be in great danger when encountering ogres, but if it is a whole team, it is better to be an army, and it doesn't matter if it encounters ogres. The thing is that simple - as long as you can make the ogres think about it again and again before you can think about it, you can feel at ease and boldly deal with them. Of course, it is not the case that actively attacks ogres, or ogres have accepted the employment of the enemy in advance.

It is generally believed that ogres come from a farther West. Their origin is a certain ice and snow mountain range beyond the dwarf territory. Of course, only scholars are interested in the details of these origins. Dwarfs usually care about objective facts: ogres will occasionally appear in the dwarf territory in small groups, looking for wealth and - often the most important - fresh meat. They will not stay in a place for a long time, because after these gluttonous creatures pass by, generally all kinds of wild beasts will be hunted. In this world without the concept of "biological protection", this behavior is irrelevant, but the key is that ogres' greed nature always makes them look at the rich city of dwarfs intentionally or unintentionally. Because of this, as long as the conditions are appropriate, dwarfs always stare at the ogres with a vigilant eye and make the necessary preparations.

Based on the knowledge of ogres, it is easy for people to come to the conclusion that an ogre army can start a war with any enemy anywhere. However, so far, there are really not many conflicts between ogres and dwarves. In most cases, ogres appear on the battlefield as mercenaries - sometimes join the green-skinned side, and sometimes join the dwarves.

It must be said that once hired, these mercenaries are indeed worthy of their employment. Once the ogres enter the battle, they become terrifying enemies. Their barbarity can even make the green-skinned orcs appear polite, and they often eat their defeated generals on the spot. In the tense atmosphere of war, this behavior often scares enemies such as goblins and flees without fighting.

Ashrufat had experience dealing with ogres once—the opposite of this one. That time, he led the Ratman Legion and was carefully planning to completely kill the dwarves in the entire city.

That was the Battle of Karak-Grom. In that chaotic war, there were three families of rats, dwarves and Greenskins. In the later stage, an ogre tribe also came to Karak-Grom. In order to enhance combat power and gain an advantage, both Greenskins and Dwarves quickly sent people to contact and hire these ogres. Although the ogres' intelligence is not high, they also know how to wait for a price in this situation, which has not been reached for a long time.

It must be said that it was this volatile policy that helped these ogres. Because in this war, the dwarfs and Greenskin had no hope of victory at all, and even if these ogres joined, there was no difference. Ashu Rufat was not interested in the ogres, but just asked them to go away and join in less. After seeing the huge military force of the Rat Man (actually after seeing the huge group of war beasts including the Abyss hatred), these ogres immediately agreed to get out. Before leaving, they also tricked Greenskin and tricked Greenskin into the ambush circle of the Rat Man.

That time, Ash Rufate had too much advantage, so he could use the most impolite tone to make the ogre get out of here. And this time, the situation was different. His identity was no longer the Rat Man Lord, but a dwarf general. If he wanted to make good use of the ogre, he had to take some measures...

Asu Ruffat thought while walking, completely unaware of the destination he had arrived. It was not until the guards behind him reminded him that he realized that the ogre camp was ahead.

The ogre's camp was set up in an open space by a stream. Some wood was simply cut outside and roughly tied into a wooden wall. With the ogre's craftsmanship level, this kind of wall can only be made. The wall is full of loopholes, and some holes are even big enough for two people to walk in side by side.

In front of the camp gate, there was an extinguished fire with some broken bones piled up on it. Ashu Rufate thought it was a bison or a wild boar. From the perspective of the bones, he thought the boar was eaten by an ogre—and it was not full, because in the end, part of the big bones was bitten.

"Master, look at the mark on the wooden wall."

There was a rough and eye-catching mark on the wooden wall, which should be the totem of this tribe. This was the second time that Ashu Rufate saw this mark. When he first saw it, he was outside the city of Karak-Grom. In other words, what he met was not a strange tribe, but a group of old acquaintances outside Karak-Grom.

"Strange... why... hasn't this tribe gone back?" Ashu Rufate asked in his mind in confusion. According to common sense, an ogre team would indeed wander around, looking for opportunities to make money or have a big meal. But an ogre tribe would not be that simple.

In the history of dwarves, there were indeed examples of an entire tribe appearing on the border. But these ogres also knew that if they continued to go deeper, they would either have to work with the dwarves. So if they did not have the opportunity to hire, they would turn around and embark on the road of return, and go back and forth. They would eat all the way and eat all the way back.

Karak Grom is indeed the border of the Dwarf Kingdom, and it is no big deal to appear an ogre tribe. But this strange tribe did not return the same way after that, but went deep into the Dwarf Kingdom and even circled around the peninsula.

"Master, don't you find it strange?" Carrie said in his mind. "If you rely on your strength to be good, you are not afraid of dwarves, it's not very similar. They only have one thousand people."

Just by looking through the records, you will know that although the ogre tribe is usually not very large in size, the tribe with the number of thousand horses can only be considered small tribes. Even the large tribes know that they will turn around on the border of the dwarves and dare not provoke a war with the dwarves army. Where did this small tribe get so much confidence?

As he looked at the fire, the arrival of this small team had already aroused the ogre's alertness. Ashrufat saw five or six ogres rushing out, all holding big sticks in his hands - the most common weapon of ogres. They looked around vigilantly, but after discovering that there were indeed only three dwarves, the ogres relaxed.

Although ogres are not smart (this is unanimously recognized), they also understand that these dwarves who come to the door must be messengers, and if they are messengers, there must be good things.

A short time later, Ashu Rufate walked into the camp and saw the leader of the Ogre tribe - or according to a more formal name: Tyrant. In fact, ogres are very similar to Green Skin. Just look at their size and you can tell who the leader is - Tyrants are the most powerful and strongest group in this group that takes pride in their strength.

As he came in, the tyrant was preparing for dinner. On the bonfire ahead of him, half a huge hilly bison was hanging there, roasting until three-thirds cooked. The remaining half (or, specifically, a small half) was being held in the tyrant's hands.

The ogres all have a good appetite to eat whatever they want, and they are not afraid of raw and cooked. It is very common to hunt a bison and eat half of the raw and half. Moreover, even if they eat half of the roast, it is because a slaughter master is present.

Not far from the tyrant, there is a body with a fatter and round appearance than an ordinary ogre. That is a slaughter master, a wizard and prophet among the ogres. He is busy packing up the second cow, peeling it off and preparing a ritual feast. It is pointed out that any civilized race will completely lose interest in this feast as long as you see the appearance of the slaughter master. Because these slaughter masters have a very unbearable personal hygiene, and their bodies are covered with dried blood stains and internal organ residues. They carry a large number of meat hooks, meat cutters, and slicers. All these rusty, dirty and smelly things are not simply decorations, but tools that are put into use.

Only ogres will be feasted without any impact on the use of these tools.

Ash Rufate came to the tyrant. If he was normal, then his height could be almost half of that of a tyrant, but now, he was just over the tyrant's knee.

The tyrant stopped the action of tearing down the raw beef legs and turned his head to look over.

"I'm here to hire you." Ashu Rufate said in the language of an ogre.

"Why should I accept employment?" The tyrant was quite polite - as long as the ogre did not swing his big stick at the first time, he would be more polite. Obviously, this ogre tribe has a lot of experience in dealing with foreign tribes. Even ogres with low IQ will become a good negotiating expert after accumulating enough experience.

"Because this is... this is a chance to give you a big meal." This is the negotiation line that Carrie drafted for him, but when she said it, Ashu Rufat felt that these ogres might be difficult to impress by such conditions.

"Don't worry, master, ogres only think about themselves. They want to do things the most and only want to do things that are most beneficial to them." In their minds, Carrie said. "As long as you show strong enough, they will be obedient, otherwise, they will try to gain more benefits from you. There are many books to record..."

Carrie's voice suddenly stopped, and Ashu Rufat couldn't help asking, "What is recorded?"

"...You subdue or kill this tyrant directly, perhaps the best way to show your strength." Carrie said. "But this is very dangerous. Although you have power far surpassing creatures of the same size, if you simply compare your strength, you can't beat the ogre. If you are hit by the ogre with all your strength, you are in danger of your life."

Of course, no one else knew about the discussion in Ash Rufate's mind, and even the tyrants didn't know about it. In the eyes of others, this was just a silent confrontation showing each other's momentum.

The tyrant resumed his previous move of tearing down beef. "We're having a big meal now."
