Chapter 518 The second problem

Chapter 518

The next day.

In a conference room of the Solid State Physics Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, members of the third research group were holding their third plenary meeting.

The first two meetings were when they met for the first time after the mobilization meeting, and the second was when Gu Lu announced a new experimental plan.

Now in the third plenary meeting, the main content of the meeting is to discuss the next step of the research team's work.

Now, everyone has solved the problem of the limited number of qubits that graphene materials can accommodate.

Said it before.

There are currently two difficulties in the field of graphene semiconductor quantum chip materials.

The people in the third research group have solved the first one, so the next task is of course to focus on overcoming the second problem of graphene materials.

The first problem with graphene materials is that the number of qubits will be limited. The second problem is that as the number of qubits on the graphene chip increases, the structure of the qubits will become more complex.

This is a considerable workload for designers of qubit structures.

Compared with the first problem, the second problem is not that high in priority.

It belongs to the kind that can solve the problem to the highest extent, and if it cannot be solved, it will not have too serious consequences.

It's not like the first problem that Gu Lu and the others just solved. It will be difficult to continue the research work of the entire project team if they cannot solve it.

but……

Then again.

Although the second problem is slightly less serious, its overall difficulty level is significantly higher than the first problem.

The reason is simple.

Because in the first problem, the number of qubits that can be accommodated on the graphene material is limited, which is largely due to the electromagnetic waves generated by the net nuclear spin phenomenon of the graphene nucleus.

But the second problem is different.

As the number of qubits increases, the structural requirements for qubits become more complex. The reason for this situation is not just the 'net nuclear spin phenomenon' as in the first problem, but there are two.

The first reason is the relativistic characteristics of the carriers of carbon atoms in the graphene single layer.

On the other hand, the zero-gap band structure of a single layer of carbon atoms is also one of the reasons for this situation.

With the blessing of these two factors, the second problem currently faced by Gu Lu and others has formed.

If you want to completely solve this second problem, simply solving one of these two reasons will not work at all.

It is necessary to eliminate the influence of these two factors on the qubit structure at the same time, so that the structural design of qubits can be made less complicated.

This is obviously much more difficult and complicated than the first problem.

…………

In the conference room.

Everyone was gathering together, discussing some feasible experimental plans with serious faces.

As the night passed, everyone had come out of the joyful relaxation of yesterday's successful experiment and returned to the feeling of urgency and busyness.

If they were placed in an ordinary project team and a new result had just been produced, it stands to reason that the researchers would have to rest for at least a day or two!

But the semiconductor quantum chip project team does not have this benefit.

After a short dinner last night and just one night's rest, everyone in the research team returned to the office and entered the next stage of research work.

This is the current atmosphere in the semiconductor quantum chip project team.

Time is tight and the task is heavy!

The research and development progress in quantum computers in the United States is obviously faster than that here.

In this research and development competition with the United States on quantum computers, if China wants to achieve a roundabout goal, it would be better to seize every minute and every second instead of relying on illusory luck.

If they work half as long as researchers in the United States every day, it doesn't mean that two years here are equivalent to three years for others.

Therefore, in this environment, not working overtime is considered a pretty good treatment. As for taking vacation, that is completely a luxury!

Maybe I’ll take a few days off during the Chinese New Year, and the rest of the time, I don’t have to think about it.

In the conference room, everyone was intensely discussing the experimental plan for the next stage.

At this moment, there was a knock on the door of the conference room.

Ai Liang, who looked haggard, stared at a pair of dark circles, and was obviously thinner, opened the door and came in, "Sorry, I didn't disturb you!"

"No, no." Gu Lu was sitting near the door. As he stood up to speak, he glanced up and down Ai Liang and asked doubtfully, "Researcher Ai, have you not had a good rest recently? I see.

Your condition is a bit bad!"

you do not say!

Gu Lu remembered that when he met Ai Liang more than half a month ago, Ai Liang was still rosy and healthy, but today, not only was Ai Liang much thinner, but his hairline had also moved back a lot.

How stupid is this!

A smile appeared on Ai Liang's face, and he said in a nonchalant tone, "It's okay, it's just a lack of sleep. I've long been used to it."

Ai Liang has actually been very aggressive during this period. Especially last night, Ai Liang was completely stimulated by the news that Gu Lu had produced results.

So I spent the whole night alone in the laboratory.

Ai Liang has not slept for more than 20 hours now.

"Researcher Ai, as a core member of the project team, should pay more attention to his body." Gu Lu sighed and said this.

Gu Lu knew that even if he said these words, Ai Liang would probably not stop.

Once a scientific research madman starts to get angry, he will be incomparable to the liver emperors in many Internet cafes.

Sure enough, Ai Liang didn't take Gu Lu's words to heart.

"Professor Gu, congratulations, your research group is the first of our current six research groups to produce results!" Ai Liang said this congratulations in a complicated tone.

Gu Lu waved his hand with a smile and said modestly, "It's a fluke, it's just a fluke."

And An Yu, who was standing next to Gu Lu, had a pair of beautiful eyes filled with sparkles.

Their research group was the first among all the research groups to produce results. An Yu had thought of this a long time ago.

An Yu knew all the work that the other research groups were responsible for.

Gu Lu knew very well that the other five teams were responsible for that part of the work, and it was unlikely that they could produce results in just one month.

Having said that, if their research team did not have Gu Lu, it would be impossible for the project team to achieve results as soon as they started working!

"Are you having a meeting to discuss the next stage of work?" Ai Liang scanned the people in the conference room and saw that everyone was there, so he asked.

"Yes, we are discussing a solution to the second problem of graphene semiconductor chips." Gu Lu nodded and replied.
