Chapter 154 Commitment

The ancient wizard floated on the surface of the earth in the form of a spirit body, wearing white clothes, with his hands behind him, looking down at the planet below with a calm and natural expression, like a calm lake.

Michael also hung beside her in spirit form. He accompanied her silently to look at the earth for a while, and whispered: "So, you finally let this happen."

Many years ago, before leaving Kama Taj, Michael tried to warn her about her death. In the movie "Doctor Strange", the ancient wizard was fooled by him while fighting the traitor Casillas. He was stabbed and seriously injured and fell out of the mirror dimension. He fell from a high altitude on the sidewalk, and passed away after a moment.

But she has always refused to listen to Michael's warnings, as if she didn't care about her life and death... No, she even said that she acted as if this death was what she expected. And her explanation to Michael has always been only vague words like "My fate is so", just like her reason to prevent Michael from using his understanding of the plot of the film to try to prevent possible disasters.

And now, she seemed to have let things develop according to the original trajectory. Michael didn't know the details, but it can be imagined that Casillas had to regain his strength after suffering a loss under his command to attack the temple. Then he and his followers encountered the ancient wizard during the attack, and the next thing was probably similar to the plot of the movie.

Gu Yi looked back at him and said in a light tone: "I can see that, you still don't understand."

"Of course I don't understand," Michael said. "And I don't actually believe that an extraordinary person like you will be trapped by something like destiny. You always tell me that, but it's never a real reason, right?"

Gu Yi's sight returned to the earth below and did not answer.

"Now you are going to die, maybe this is just as you wish?" Michael continued, "So tell me, have you seen such a future long ago? So what about the future? After you die, will you also see what will happen in this world?"

Gu Yi slowly spoke: "Yes, I can see some fragments and images of the future, but that is never complete. Because the future has never been a certain thing, there are only countless possibilities. Through the layers of dark fog, I only see bad possibilities...and even worse possibilities."

"It sounds really unoptimistic," Michael said. "So since the future you see is so bad, why should you stop me from changing it? Or is it that the future you see is just as bad as my interference?"

Gu Yi shook his head.

"I stopped you to protect you."

Michael frowned, he didn't like this statement.

“How to say it?”

Gu Yi turned his head again and said in a gentle tone: "I can see all kinds of futures, but there is no one of these futures, and you are involved in it."

"What's the meaning?"

"It means that you don't belong to any timeline in this world at all. The timeline you are involved in is completely new, and even I can't see it. So I said that from the moment I saw you, I realized that you are different - that doesn't just refer to your talent."

Michael suddenly understood something. He was a time traveler, a time traveler who knew the plot and to a certain extent knew the future direction, but he himself did not belong to a part of these plots. Even if he was as powerful as a supreme wizard, he could not see his fate.

"But that still doesn't explain why you stopped me from interfering in the future." He continued, "What does this have to do with protecting me?"

Gu Yi continued: "Like I told you, time is difficult to explain. As an existence that does not belong to this time, every time you interfere with something and resolve a crisis that should have existed is equivalent to giving time itself a heavy punch. Time... is like a spring. When you give an attack, it will fight back with the same or even stronger force - no one can be sure where this kind of return will come from.

Before you tried to kill Loki, and from some of the future I've seen, maybe that would really stop some trouble. But the more you change, the stronger the fight you will get. I'm not sure if you're ready to deal with that."

"I'm ready," Michael said lightly. "From the moment I made up my mind to take action, I knew the risks. You should know me enough. You know that I am not the kind of person who does nothing in the face of a predetermined fate. Even if I am going to be destroyed, I will destroy it in my efforts."

"I know." Gu Yi sighed, "No matter whether you are really ready or not, there is no time. My time is here, and this is the best choice."

Michael still disagreed with her choice to voluntarily accept death, but even if things are opposed, it is meaningless, so he simply kept silent.

"I have also chosen my heir." Her expression was calm, like a monk who saw through the world without joy or sorrow. "If you have the chance, you should meet him."

"Dr. Stephen Strange?"

Gu Yi nodded slightly.

"Strange is also an extremely rare genius of secret art. He has amazing talent and his achievements are limitless in time. Perhaps one day he will become a better supreme mage than me." She paused, "But even if he really reaches that level, he will never be able to replace you. If there is only one person in this whole world who can open up a new future from all the possibilities full of destruction and blood, then that person must be you."

Michael said nothing.

"You came to my door and asked me to teach you spells, and I did. You said that's because deep down I really hope you can change your destiny... I never admitted it before, but now I admit it."

Master Gu Yi said, looking at him and smiling slightly.

"You have a kind heart, and you always think about others. You always show others your cruel and ruthless side and are unwilling to face your gentle side, but this cannot change the fact that you are a good person. You care about the weak and will not stand by and watch the good people in trouble." She said, "and you have a steely will and never waver. It is because of this that I feel at ease to entrust things to you."

Michael did not agree with some of her words. But considering that her last trace of life was about to burn out, he did not refute it.

"Now, I want to ask you for the last thing," she said solemnly, "in a personal capacity."

"I'm listening," Michael said lightly.

"My heir is very good, but as a mage, he is still too immature. Domaum is about to come, and it may be difficult for the remaining mages to deal with." She paused and said, "So I hope you can help them and take them through the difficulties."

"I will."

Even without her request, Michael had no intention of ignoring it.

So she closed her eyes lightly with peace of mind: "Thank you."

Next was a long silence. When Michael looked around again, there was no one there, only the dark universe.

He withdrew his gaze and looked at the earth again. He floated in this quiet space, alone, and stayed for a long time.
