Chapter 5 Looking at Chang'an from afar

After reading the original works of Master Sanzang, Puji took Chen Wanrong to see the eight Buddha statues brought back by Master Sanzang from India. These Buddha statues are slightly different from the Middle Land Buddha statues, with an exotic style. Although Buddhism is an alien religion, it has almost been localized by the Tang Dynasty. In modern times, many people believe that Buddhism is a religion of China rather than from India.

Pu Ji talked endlessly about the origin of the eight Buddha statues to Chen Wanrong. Chen Wanrong kept nodding and applauding on the surface, but in his heart he commented from a technical perspective, "The casting level of India is too inferior. This Buddha statue cannot be compared with the Buddha statues in Middle Earth, especially the delicate style is far worse than the heaven and earth."

After seeing Master Xuanzang's handwriting and relics, this "cultural feast" was so beautiful. Chen Wanrong was satisfied and planned to say goodbye. Before he could speak, he heard Pu Ji say: "The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is not only a place to see Master Xuanzang's works, but also an excellent place to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Chang'an. Standing on the top of the tower, you can see the vast Chang'an! When the donor comes here, you must watch it. Please!"

This proposal is good, and Chen Wanrong will definitely not refuse and said, "I'm thankful for your help." Follow Puji up.

Chen Zairong is a scholar and is particularly concerned about the "Title of the Yan Pagoda". He just now had no time to observe Xuanzang's works. Now he thought of this: "Master, can I let me see the title of the Yan Pagoda?"

"The donor wants to see it, and you can't help it. Please follow me." This is also an opportunity to flatter you, so how could Puji disagree.

Upon a floor, Puji led the two of them to a wall, pointed to the wall and said, "This is the place where the students were enumerated. After the students climbed the dragon gate, they had to attend the Qujiang banquet first, and then came here to enumerate the title to show their honor." The Tang Dynasty called Hi-Tues "Climbing the dragon gate".

After the scholars of the Tang Dynasty passed the imperial examination, a series of celebrations were held. The most important thing was to "bathe the heavenly grace". First, they had to accept the banquet given by the emperor Qujiang, and then they came to Ci'en Temple to "subtitle the name of the Yan Pagoda" to celebrate the honor. The entire activity reached its climax.

The title of Yan Pagoda is the most glorious thing for scholars in the Tang Dynasty. It was once popular and became the highest honor in scholars' hearts. Chen Wanrong also knew it. When he looked at the wall, he saw some names, hometowns, and time on the wall. The one written at the front was a scholar named Zhang Ju. There were many names in turn, and Zhang San Li Si Wang Mazi wrote a long list.

After reading one by one, none of them were known to Chen Wanrong. They should be some scholars who have not left any achievements in history. Thinking of Bai Juyi's poem "The title of the 17 people is the youngest among the seventeen people", he did not need too high literary cultivation to appreciate Bai Juyi's aura of "I am the youngest". The so-called title of the yan pagoda is just like this, and I couldn't help but feel very disappointed.

Chen Zairong looked very seriously, looking one by one. Looking at his serious appearance, he really wished he could also write his name one day.

Puji explained: "Zhang Ju and Zhang visited the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in one day, and they wrote the title here on a whim. The students and the students worked together to form a trend, and they all wrote the title here."

No wonder there are few people who can leave their names in history. It turns out that they have just emerged. If there are dozens or hundreds of years, there will be more people here to name the names. Among them are many famous historical celebrities such as Bai Juyi and Meng Jiao.

After Chen Zairong finished reading it, he was satisfied and tapped on the wall with his right hand: "How great it would be if I could even name it here like them one day!"

"The donor has a great ambition and will one day be able to leave a name here!" The person who is a hero immediately praised him. Say something good, and it is worth it without any expenses, so why not do it?

Chen Wanrong couldn't help but feel a little contempt for the followers of the Tang Dynasty scholars. The best place to enumerate should be history. It would be worthwhile to be able to leave a good name in history. Although these scholars left their names here, who will know them a thousand years later?

Although the monks and others of Xiang and Wu Daozi have not left their names here, they can be remembered for generations. When future generations talk about them, they have to give them a thumbs up. This is what men should do!

"Zhao Rong, you should know that the title of Yan Pagoda is of course valuable, but the real value is not the title of the title here, but should be kept in history. There are many people who can do things that are beneficial to the country and the people, and I don't doubt this. I think not every one of them can do things that are beneficial to the country. Some of them must be unknown and end up in a mediocre way, but they just write their names here!" Chen Wanrong didn't want Chen Zairong to put his mind here, fall into vulgarity, and encourage him.

Chen Zairong rolled his eyes and thought for a while, nodded resolutely: "Brother, I remember it! It is good to be able to write a title here, but it is no big deal if you don't write a title here! One day, I will gallop among the troops and fight against the Turks in the depths of the desert!"

He was struggling to fight Hu Nu as his ambition. He couldn't help but feel his spirits rising. He held his head up and his chest unnaturally on the hilt of the sword. He looked ahead, and his blood was stimulating, as if he was lying among the hosts.

Puji looked at the two of them and didn't know that Chen Wanrong didn't have much affection for the kings, princes, generals and ministers. Seeing that Chen Wanrong was calm and composed, although he was not as bold as Chen Zairong, he had a sense of confidence in his every move. Although he was a kind of encouragement, he regarded the famous princes as nothing, and secretly praised this person in his heart!

Chen Zairong was filled with ambitions in his chest, and his eyes were full of hot light. He wished he could immediately join the army among the ten thousand troops. Such pride was not something that everyone could have. Puji had seen many court officers and military generals of the dynasty. There were not many people who could have such passion as him. This person must be nothing in the pool. Sooner or later, he would soar into the sky.

I was planning to flatter today, but maybe I accidentally met a powerful person, at least I was a person who was stung and planted good causes for the future. Pu Ji secretly rejoiced and praised: "I heard that 'Extraordinary achievements must be done to extraordinary things, and extraordinary things must be done to extraordinary people'. The two donors have great ambitions and will achieve extraordinary things. I am here to congratulate you."

There is a bit of sincerity in this sentence, not all the scenes, Chen Wanrong heard it. I thought I could only do chemical engineering, but I don’t know anything else. Chemical engineering is nothing in modern society. It is not an exaggeration to say that it is extraordinary in the Tang Dynasty. If I succeed in chemical engineering, it is a very important task. I can barely say that it is a good cause. I smiled and said, "Thank you, Master!"

"Thank you Master!" Chen Zairong bowed with his fists.

Puji no longer changed his mind and sincerely invited him: "Two donors, please go to the top of the tower to enjoy the scenery."

Cen Shen, a famous frontier poet of the Tang Dynasty, praised the majestic momentum of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. "The tower is like a gushing out, towering the sky palace. When you climb out of the world, you will scatter the void. It suddenly presses against the Chinese state, and is as majestic as a ghost craftsman. The four corners hinder the sun, and the seven layers of the sky are shining." The magnificent and extraordinary parts of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda are all revealed.

The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is more than 60 meters high and is the "command height" of Chang'an. Standing on the top of the tower, you can see the entire Chang'an. Chen Wanrong climbed to the highest point with Puji, holding the bar with his hand and looking around, and was immediately shocked: What a magnificent Chang'an!

Standing on the top of the tower and looking at Chang'an, it feels like sitting on a helicopter and looking down at the modern city. Chang'an is in a Chang'an shape and can be seen clearly on the top of the tower. The wide and tall and majestic city of Guo is not even a problem even if you drive a car on it.

The city wall at the city gate is much thicker than that in Guocheng. There is a city tower built, and the soldiers on duty are standing on the top of the city with bright armor. There are also teams of soldiers patrolling in Guocheng. The soldiers in the distance are too small to see clearly. The soldiers near are fully armed, in an orderly manner.

Occasionally, a few beams of bright lights would be shot. Chen Wanrong was confused, but Chen Zairong was as excited as if he had discovered a new continent: "Mingguang Armor, Mingguang Armor, it must be Mingguang Armor! Brother, they are wearing Mingguang Armor!"

There were thirteen types of armor used by the Tang Dynasty army, so it was also called "Tang Thirteen Armor". Among these thirteen Armors, the most famous one is the Mingguang Armor. The biggest difference between Mingguang Armor and other Armors is that it is equipped with extremely smoothly polished copper sheets on the front chest and back. These polished copper sheets can reflect light, which is not inferior to bronze mirrors. They will reflect sunlight under sunlight, forming beams of "bright light", so the Mingguang Armor is named.

Mingguang Kai is a top-notch armor, and it is a very honor to have one. Chen Zairong loves Mingguang Kai very much, so how can he not be excited when he sees it?

The second feature of Chang'an is to divide the crisscrossing roads into squares. Modern urban transportation is developed, and the roads should turn and the curved ones should be curved. The roads in Chang'an are straight and have no arc or curvature.

And these squares are yards, arranged neatly like tofu blocks. Chen Wanrong already knew this, but it seemed completely different here. Chang'an was majestic and grand, and it was well-deserved.

Puji is a good tour guide and explained to Chen Wanrong: "The northernmost is the palace city, and the south of the palace city is the imperial city. The imperial city Zhuque Gate directly leads to the south of Mingde Gate. Zhuque Street is the widest street in Chang'an, next to it, with flowers, plants and trees. Whenever the grass and trees are lush, flowers bloom and green trees are formed, making it a place for women in the capital to rest."

Whether it is the Zhuque Gate or Mingde Gate, Chen Wanrong didn't care. He was concerned about the "Xuanwu Gate". It was through the famous "Xuanwu Gate Incident" that Emperor Taizong of Tang ascended the throne and began the most glorious years of his life and created the "Zhenguan Gate Gate", and thus Chinese history entered a very strong period.

"Master, where is Xuanwu Gate?" Chen Wanrong asked with great concern.

Puji answered questions and pointed to the distance and said, "There is a three-level gate of Xuanwu Gate, which is very strict. When you enter Xuanwu Gate, you will see the palace city. The east palace is the east palace and the west palace is the Yeting Palace. The northernmost gate is the Chongxuanwu Gate, the gate of the Daming Palace. The Hanyuan Hall in the Daming Palace was built by Emperor Taizong, and it is where the emperor listened to the court. The orders of our dynasty are issued from here and passed to all parts of the Tang Dynasty."

I wanted to learn about Xuanwu Gate, but I didn't expect that Puji had said so much and introduced Hanyuan Hall to a more important point. The Tang Dynasty made such a great achievement, and the government orders were issued from Hanyuan Hall. Chen Wanrong couldn't help but pay attention to the Hanyuan Hall. Looking into the distance, he saw that Hanyuan Hall was a huge hall, covering an area of a very wide area, but it was too far away and could not see clearly, which was a pity.

Chen Wanrong stood on tiptoe and his neck stretched longer than a giraffe. Chen Zairong had to remind him: "Brother, this place is far away, not very good. You can see clearly only when you look at the Daming Palace on the Dragon Headland."

"Is that so? Then you have to take the time to take a look!" Chen Wanrong was very excited.

Puji saw Chen Wanrong's eagerness in his eyes. This was the result of his own explanation, which was more useful than listening to a hundred words of praise. He then explained: "Next to the middle of Jianchun Gate is Xingqingfang, which was where the prince used to live."

The current crown prince is Li Longji. The reason why Li Longji was able to become the crown prince was because he and his aunt Princess Taiping jointly launched a coup, killing Empress Wei and Princess Anle's rebellion.

Empress Wei was the empress of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang, and Princess Anle was the daughter of Emperor Zhongzong, named Li Guer. Her beauty was not inferior to Concubine Yang. She was known as the "No. 1 Beauty of the Tang Dynasty". Emperor Zhongzong loved her very much. She could blatantly sell official positions and titles, but even Emperor Zhongzong had no choice but to sell her. She would sell her to whoever she wanted to sell the official position.

She didn't know some people at all, and she didn't have any benefits for her. She still did it for the officials. It is said that a butcher woke up and found that he was already a high-ranking official, which made it inexplicable.

She had ambitions and wanted to imitate Wu Zetian as the queen, and blatantly asked Zhongzong to make her the "Crown Princess". Zhongzong joked that it would not be too late to make you the Crown Princess when your mother became the queen. This was a joke, but she took it seriously and discussed with Empress Wei. The mother and daughter joined forces to poison Zhongzong to control the government.

The two men threatened the most to these two mothers and daughters, one was the wise and conspiring Princess Taiping, and the other was the heroic and powerful Li Longji. After the mother and daughter controlled the government, they felt uneasy and thought of a way to get rid of Princess Taiping and Li Longji. This pushed Princess Taiping and Li Longji together. The two joined forces to launch a coup, killing Empress Wei and Princess Anle a year ago, and pushing Ruizong Li Dan to the throne.

Li Longgen made such great achievements. Although he was not the eldest son, he was still the crown prince. Although Li Longji had not ascended the throne and had not yet created the famous "Kaiyuan Prosperity", he had two eye-catching features: one was extremely smart and could do whatever he wanted; the other was that he was very handsome, magnificent and heroic, and could not reach people. As for his outstanding musical talent, he was even more outstanding, because he was highly regarded by the Tang people, and even Puji, a monk, was no exception, and he mentioned his residence.

Who doesn’t know about Emperor Minghuang of Tang? Chen Wanrong saw that Xingqingfang was about the same size as the general yard, and there was nothing special about it.

Under Puji's guidance, Chen Wanrong saw Chang'an enough and was satisfied, so he got off the tower.

When he arrived at the tower, Puji invited: "Two donors, please go to the monk's room to serve tea." Now he was sincere and no longer flattering, and he said this very sincerely.

Chen Wanrong's trip to Ci'en Temple has achieved great results, and it is worthwhile. There is no regret for leaving here. But Puji sincerely invited each other, but Chen Wanrong was not easy to refuse and said, "I'm disturbing Master."

As Puji went to his monk's room, he went into the house and saw that there were couches, cushions, wooden fish, tables, and several chairs in the house. It was very simple and incomparable to the magnificence of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.

Ci'en Temple is a famous temple in Chang'an. I don't know how much money I receive incense. Even if I have a little bit of it, it will decorate his monk's room like a palace. However, he is so simple, Chen Wanrong really didn't expect that his favorability for him will increase a little.

Puji moved the chair and asked Chen Wanrong and the others to sit down and present the incense. The incense is good, the fragrance is fragrant, and it is a top-notch tea. Chen Wanrong took a sip and accidentally saw a painting on the table. The painting was either Wu Daozi, which was very vivid and exactly the same as a real person.

There was a teacup on the painting and some water stains. It was obvious that Puji didn't take this painting seriously at all. This was the work of the Painting Saint, and he didn't cherish it. Chen Wanrong felt very resentful and asked, "Master, is this a painting by Wu Daozi?"

Puji nodded and said, "Yes! Wu Daozi came to my temple and said that he wanted to paint a Buddha statue for me. The painting materials were to be watched by me. I was going to try his painting skills and asked him to paint this painting. It was not bad. That was why he asked him to paint a Buddha statue on the wall, but it led to such a thing."

Wu Daozi has not become famous yet. He is famous in the circle, but he doesn't know much outside the circle. He has to paint everywhere for life and live with meager painting. If Chen Wanrong hadn't heard it with his own ears, he would really not believe that a genius like Wu Daozi would have such difficulties. Things are really impermanent, and who would have no urgent matters?

Chen Wanrong has to sigh that some people say that the artist is so glorious and suffering in his lifetime, and this is really reasonable!

"What is the master planning to deal with this painting?" Puji put a teacup on the painting and sprinkled some water on it. He didn't take it seriously at all. He was too disrespectful to the painting saint, so Chen Wanrong had to ask.

Puji didn't know that Wu Daozi was famous all over the world after a few years. In order to ask him for a painting, someone would spare ten thousand gold, even if it was a thousand gold, he might not be able to buy it. Without thinking, he said, "The Buddha statue has been painted and it's useless, so it's better to abandon it."

After hearing his words, Chen Wanrong really wanted to slap him twice. This was a waste of resources. He pondered for a moment and said, "It is also a fate to know the master today. If the master agrees, I will want this painting and keep it for future commemoration. I will definitely not forget the master's feelings of visiting Yanta today."

Puji had no reason to disagree with Chen Wanrong's request and said, "If the donor does not feel burdened, it is absolutely impossible."
