Chapter 38 Chang'an Anmin

I'm A Dou

There are six ways to follow from Hanzhong to attack Guanzhong:

1. Ziwu Road: The valley is more than 600 miles long, and it is the easternmost passage of the Qinling Mountains, with high mountains and dangerous roads; (This shows that there is a big bug in my previous article. It is too easy to get Chang'an through Ziwu Valley, because I didn't know what the road was like at that time)

2. The valley is more than 400 miles long and is a passage in the middle of the Qinling Mountains. The road is very rugged;

3. Baoxie Road: The valley is five hundred miles long and is a passage in the western part of the Qinling Mountains. The road is built along the Baoshui River Valley and the Xiashui River Valley, which makes it difficult for the troops to move;

4. Dasan Pass in the west of Qinling Mountains: In order to bypass the main road to enter Guanzhong west of Qinling Mountains, the road is relatively flat, about 1,100 miles;

5. Dongwu Pass of Qinling Mountains: To bypass the Qinling Mountains and enter Guanzhong east, the road is far away, about 1,300 miles;

6. Qishan west of the Qinling Mountains: It is a detour route on the western front. The distance is long but relatively flat, which is conducive to the operation of the large army and the supply transportation; but you must first go to Longyou and then enter Guanzhong from Longyou.

This time, our army went out of Sanguan, and the left general Ma Chao's army went out of Qishan (correction: I made a mistake in the previous article. Ma Chao was named General of the Cavalry in the first year of Zhangwu a year later. In the 24th year of Jian'an of Emperor Xian, Liu Bei was named King of Hanzhong during the 24th year of Jian'an (July), and Guan Yu was appointed as the former general, Ma Chao was the left general: Zhang Fei was the right general, and Huang Zhong was the latter general). Although these two roads were far away, they were the most straight, each leading 15,000 elite troops. However, if the civil servants and logistics were included, there were 50,000 or 60,000. The war was the logistics. We are not the Huns, and we are the people's hearts. We cannot live by burning, killing, looting, and plundering. If we can supplement the local area, we can supplement it. If we cannot supplement it, we cannot grab it.

I am not afraid of insufficient troops, but I am afraid of being under the strong city. Therefore, I am more important than attacking the heart, and I am more important than yezhan, and I am more important than to attract surrender. This is also the meaning of the secret letters of Kong Ming and Fazheng.

Although Kong Ming did not like Wei Yan, I still insisted on letting him be the pioneer. In fact, no one is more suitable for Wei Yan's bravery, motivation, and thinking about the situation of the war. Of course, Wei Yan also has shortcomings, one is that he is good at competing for merit, and the other is that he loves to boast. In some places, he is very similar to his second uncle, but I will never coax him like Kong Ming in spite of his second uncle, otherwise even if he seeks temporary peace, he will plant bad consequences. But this is a matter after the war. Now, as long as he wins a battle for me, it will be done.

Huang Zhong, Huang Quan, Cheng Ji, Guan Ping, Mi Fang, Zhou Cang, and Jiang Wei followed the army. Although the veteran Huang Zhong became stronger, I was afraid that he would be injured in the chaos. After all, old people do not have the ability to be muscles and bones. Such an old general has a great banner worth not less than his own. Huang Hansheng's official position was the second general, second only to Xu Jing, Guan Yu, Ma Chao and Zhang Fei, and even the fourth uncle Zhao Yun could not compare with him. In the battle to kill Xiahou Yuan, he cooperated with Fa Zheng and made great contributions. He broke through the middle line and Cao's army was defeated. This time he went to the battle, and he actually wanted to compete with Wei Yan for the vanguard. I had to say: "The veteran general, let the young man give the credit."

Wei Yan's vanguard troops were progressing very quickly. When I left Guanzhong, he had already arrived in Chencang. When I arrived in Chencang, he entered Wugong and Huaili again. In a blink of an eye, he joined Zhao Yun's support troops in Xianyang. After simple supplies, he immediately went north to Xinping and settled.

As I analyzed, because I had done propaganda in advance, Zhucheng surrendered under my civil and military fright, and many defenders had abandoned the city and fled before they even fought. The battle was not like a war, but it was like a chasing competition. The Shu army was mostly infantry, and the Wei soldiers who had horses were naturally unable to catch up. Wei Yan's letter to me also said that he would attack a certain city and behead him. Later, he occupied a certain city and obtained a certain city, and even lost the word "war".

Kong Ming and I have long focused on civil affairs. Although we had known that this Northern Expedition might have been very smooth, it was beyond our imagination to achieve this. Fortunately, there were many civil officials from Shu and Hanzhong. Every time we occupied a city, we had a list of people to calm the people, open warehouses and release grain, maintain the ground, and select officials. We were very busy. The three servants in Chang'an refer to the Jingzhao Chang'an, Fengyi on the left and Fufeng on the right. When I met with Zhao Yun in Chang'an, there was already a place with three servants, with nearly 100,000 soldiers and great power. The north was in the wind. The defenders in Tongguan on the east were shocked three times a day and dared not leave the pass again.

But I know that these victories are only temporary phenomena. Once Cao Wei takes the initiative, their attack will be very terrifying. What I am more worried about is that when I come to Chang'an, many of my subordinates will become complacent, and even think that the three states of Yong, Liang and Yi have become the force of powerful Qin, and sweeping the Central Plains is just around the corner. Some people began to persuade them to advance, hoping to get the sick father to ascend the throne to the throne and fight for the disease.

I was so angry that I scolded the ministers who persuaded me to come in. Are they stupid or stupid? If the situation was so good, would Mr. Kong Ming be so tired that his eyes were bloodshot, and even his cheekbones were prominent?

Since Duke Mu defeated the Western Rong, more than 20 kings have worked hard to govern and expand territory. Shang Yang's reforms have finally become a king and hegemony. He has strong soldiers and horses, famous generals, and food and grass are like mountains. Then he divided the countries of the Central Plains and dared to send troops to the east. But we have just arrived in Chang'an and have not even pacified the northern land. The Central Plains are as solid as gold by the Cao family, far away from the coalition forces of the Six Kingdoms. At this time, they are complacent. Is it okay?

I summoned all officials to stop these terrible thoughts, and asked them to carefully understand the actual situation in Guanzhong, go to the people's homes, and see what they should do most now.

After decades of war and killing, Guanzhong has been reborn as one out of ten people. Cao Cao forced himself to move from Wudu and other places to supplement the households of the Sanjiao. The barbarians were in chaos, and the fertile lands were deserted and the people were cut off. Our work will be extremely difficult:

We were busy, summoned local officials, registered populations, gathered civilians hidden in the mountains, distributed fields to the newly relocated households of the poor, organized spring plowing, and arranged seeds...

We were busy, reading the war reports on the front line, studying the trends of all parties, mediating local disputes, suppressing secret riots, arranging personnel, and implementing logistics...

This is a time when it is extremely busy and dangerous. If you don’t consolidate Chang'an in advance, you will lose it after you get it. What is the most important thing in the world? Is it a person, a person, or a person! I will always remember the story of Mr. Shuijing who taught me about Emperor Wu of Han. No one, no people, no people, and nothing can be done.

Although Guan Yu's failure in Jingzhou was painful, he was not useless. The battle in Fancheng in Xiangyang attracted all the attention of Cao Cao and made him use the southern guide to protect Xuchang, which won time for Chang'an's consolidation. However, Chang'an has been wandering in the gaps in the war, while Zhao Yun and others were mostly military generals. Although some people-friendly measures were taken, in my opinion, internal affairs work was far from enough. Moreover, more and more counties occupied, and more things were needed.

These days, I am busy without darkness or daylight. I have to deal with government affairs as soon as it dawns, and I can only close my eyes until the time of schedule. I know I am not a smart person, but I have identified two things: one is to listen to both sides and be clear, and the other is to make up for my shortcomings. I will not miss any opportunity to study, anyone can become my teacher, and handling any incident is the best learning process. Kong Ming did not guide me how to do it. In many cases, he just gently raised it quietly and brought me on the right track. This made the officials highly respect the ability and energy of me, the young master who was not yet adult. I put every day

I carefully recorded what I had done, then analyzed, refined, found the best and fastest solution, and then promoted it. For example, some relocated households from Wudu and other places thought that I might move them back, and I was always uneasy. I asked them to help them repair houses, deliver oxen, and build water trucks to dispel their doubts. There was no grain plant at all in some places. At the same time, I asked people to quickly transfer grain from Hanzhong to plant many tares. Although the yield of this thing is low, it is not very suitable for management. The farming time does not wait for people, people misunderstand people, and people misunderstand people for a year. After a rain, if they don’t rush to plant, the land will be deserted.

At the same time, strengthen the military discipline of the troops and strictly prohibit incidents of disturbing the people. Because of the concern about the incident of "Cao Cao stole the wheat field and replaced the first three armies with his must", I even intended to use a knife with a beard to kill a person who disturbed the people and hurt the people, and named it "Cao Cao's beard". But after thinking about it, one was because he was afraid of arousing Cao Pi's anger, the second was because I seemed to be disrespectful and uneducated, and the third was because I was afraid of not doing it well for a while, so I made Cao Cao famous. Then forget it. At this time, Jiang Wan, who was named Fufeng Prefect, sent a head. The original owner of this thing was a man named Zhao Zilong. Because he entered the house at night, he was detained by Jiang Wan. Speaking of which, Jiang Wan was really brave. He didn't know if my relationship with Zhao Zilong was good. I thought about it, and sacrificed my dearest fourth uncle, and marinated the head with lime and transferred it to various counties and countries.
