Chapter IX Remnants of the Right Army

Burley is worthy of being an experienced veteran. Although he asked the troops to march according to the original route, he set up the most careful round barrel formation. Anyway, this is the Great Plain, so there is no need to worry about blocking the road. The biggest advantage of the round barrel formation is that no matter which direction the enemy attacks the side, it can withstand a period of time to give the army sufficiently adjust the reaction time. However, using such round barrel formations to march is much slower in the marching speed and cannot walk forty miles a day. At this speed, it will take at least four days to reach the originally negotiated encirclement site.

After receiving four letters from the flying eagle, the left army marched for two more days. By noon on the third day, they had already walked to the razor highland sixty miles away from the original garrison of the Lightning Army. This highland was named after the cool-shaped razor, and it was considered a higher hillside on this plain.

Burley looked at the scorching sun above his head and wiped the sweat from his forehead. Although he had been riding on the horse, he felt a little tired.

"Send the order! Let the brothers rest, it's time to have lunch." Burley said to the adjutant.

When the adjutant was about to call the commander to come, he suddenly heard a sound of horse hooves. He looked up and saw two scouts running over from afar.

"Report to Master! There are many cavalrymen coming to us twenty miles away from the northeast, with about thousands of people." The scout immediately reported after he got off the horse.

"Get ready to face the enemy right away!" Burley immediately said.

However, just after the left army set up the iron barrel formation, two scouts rushed back to report that the group of cavalry was not the enemy, but the cavalry of the right army.

"The cavalry of the Right Route Army? How could they run here? Could it be that the Right Route Army was defeated?" Burley suddenly felt nervous.

More than ten minutes later, a black line had appeared in the sight of the soldiers of the left army. The black line gradually became thicker and longer, becoming an irregular square formation. It was moving towards the left army.

Soon, a group of cavalrymen with helmets and ragged clothes and armor came over on horseback. Some of them were bandages on their hands, as if they had passed a fierce battle. The two cavalry officers who led the lead walked to the left army formation and shouted loudly: "I am the deputy commander of the cavalry regiment of the right army and Lynch, and I want to see the deputy commander of the Burley army!"

"I'm here! Parkinson, what happened to your right army? This... is this deputy commander Lynch newly promoted?" Burley has also met Parkinson, but he has never seen Lynch.

"Yes, Deputy Commander of Burley, you have to avenge our right-road army! We were suddenly attacked by the enemy three days ago, with heavy casualties. The commander of our cavalry regiment, Xisse, was killed. Before he died, he asked Deputy Commander Lynch to temporarily serve as the acting commander. Most of the three divisions of our right-road army were killed or captured. Fortunately, we were cavalrymen and moved fast, so we finally broke out with a bloody path and broke out..." Parkinson said with an ugly expression on his face.

"Ah! No, right. The right army was defeated like this? You have a total of 26,000 people!" Burley really didn't believe his ears.

"Master Burley, the enemy is coming in full force and attacking at night. Our army is not prepared enough, and the scouts sent out have not come back. With the eyes and ears and eyes, it is too late to meet the enemy in a hurry." Lynch said while sighing.

"Where is the enemy now?" Burley asked hurriedly. This is his most concerned thing now.

"They chased us all the way, just behind us, probably about half a day away. However, their cavalry is very close to us and will arrive in an hour or two." Lynch said in a hurry.

"Damn! These bastards came so fast. By the way, Deputy Commander Lynch, how many people do you still have now? How many of them can join the battle?" Burley asked hurriedly.

"We have more than 5,000 people, and about 5,000 injured people. Everyone else can join the battle!" Lynch said.

"Okay! Then you take your more than 5,000 people behind our team to rest first. After we get close to the enemy, you will rush up from the left wing and attack their flanks!" said Burley.

"Okay! We have long wanted to find an opportunity to avenge General Stilvin!" After Lynch agreed, he led the cavalry with him to the rear of the Left Route Army. The soldiers of the Left Route Army made way for them.

"All army is on guard! The enemy is about to arrive! The northeast direction of the position! Set up a defensive formation and prepare to face the enemy," Burley ordered.

The left-road army immediately set up a defensive formation. At the front was a gun-shield formation composed of shield soldiers and spear soldiers, which was mainly used to resist the impact of enemy cavalry. Behind them were archers. They mainly shot and killed the enemy in large numbers when the enemy cavalry sprinted. After the real close forces, they had no effect. On the two wings of the phalanx were cavalry teams, the left wing was five thousand cavalry led by Lynch, who had just arrived, and the right wing was seven thousand cavalry of the left phalanx. They arranged them to the back of the phalanx, mainly waiting for the two sides to fight, then kill, attack the enemy's side and copy the enemy's back.

After learning that the enemy was about to appear, the left army did not dare to be careless and quickly set up a formation to meet the enemy. However, after waiting in anxiety for more than two hours, the expected enemy did not appear. Burley immediately sent a scout to inquire about the news, and only then learned that the enemy was gathering ten miles away, with a population of about 30,000.

"What? They still have more than 30,000 people? Could it be that they only suffered a few thousand casualties to defeat the Right Route Army?" Burley was shocked after hearing this. This made him begin to pay attention to the combat effectiveness of the Lightning Army.

The 28,000 soldiers of the Left Army waited for more than an hour in a tense defensive state. Some people with poor physical strength couldn't stand and sat down on the ground to rest. But they didn't eat lunch and stood for four hours in tension. Even Burley was considering whether the enemy wouldn't show up, should the soldiers be allowed to chew some dry food and drink some water first? But there was a burst of people shouting and neighing from the northeast direction.

Burley and the soldiers of the Left Army looked northeast and saw a black line appearing in the distance. The black line slowly became thicker and larger, and began to gradually advance towards the square formation of the Left Army.

"Finally come!" Burley breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the soldiers of the Lightning Army appear. He waited nervously, and felt even worse. At this moment, he saw a hint of fatigue appearing on his soldiers' faces.

"This is not a good phenomenon!" Burley thought to himself. However, now is obviously not the time to consider this matter.

"Strange! Deputy Commander, why did they attack not let the cavalry rush in front, but infantry rush in front?" The adjutant pointed at the front in surprise and said.
