Chapter 370

In the huge Yanjing City, people were basically empty. The capital, which originally had a population of 420,000, is now only about 100,000. The vast majority of the population left Yanjing with Bumubutai and Shunzhi and headed north towards Zhangjiakou.

Just as Bumubutai and Fulin led the Qing court to evacuate Yanjing, the Qing army and officials in the occupied areas of the Qing Dynasty began to retreat.

The Qing army stationed in Baoding, Handan, Jinan and other places passed through Yanjing, left Juyongguan, went to Zhangjiakou, and left Zhangjiakou.

The Qing army stationed in Kaifeng and Luoyang and other places will set up camps and withdraw to Shanxi. The two Qing army will go north along the Fen River Valley, pass through Taiyuan, and then meet with the Qing army in Taiyuan, and then continue northward to go out of the customs of Datong.

The Qing army stationed in Huahua Mountain, Sanmenxia and other places directly passed through Xi'an, heading north, after joining forces with the Qing army there in Yulin, then heading north, then exiting from Zhenbeitai in northern Shaanxi and entering the Mongolian grassland.

The Qing army, who came out of Zhangjiakou, Datong and Zhenbeitai, will go to Naturalization. After Naturalization and assembly, the Qing army will go upstream along the Yellow River and arrive directly at Lanzhou.

The Qing army and the bannermen who were willing to leave in Liaodong have also begun to march. They went directly to the grassland from Liaodong and rushed to naturalization, meeting with other records of the Qing army.

This is a large population migration. The total number of Han people and Banners combined was more than three million, and they were all followers of the Qing Dynasty. In fact, many Han gentry originally planned to retreat with the Qing army. They knew that the Ming Dynasty punished traitors very severely. It can be seen from the rebellion of the two kings of Huguang that many gentry involved. These gentry who were officials of the Qing Dynasty would definitely be implicated by the Jinyiwei.

Once you are involved in a treason case of surrendering to the enemy, your family property is a trivial matter. What you are most afraid of is that you are sent to the imperial prison by the Jinyiwei using this as an excuse, and then the three departments will go to the trial and implicate the nine tribes.

But even so, many gentry were reluctant to leave because their family had great business and once they left, it would mean that they had to give up their property.

As the saying goes, people die for money and birds die for food. These gentry really cannot give up their property, so they decided to build a solid city fortress and form a triumphant to fight against the Ming Dynasty. A large number of city fortresses emerged on the land of Hebei and western Shandong.

After Bumubutai and Fulin left Yanjing, they immediately reported the news to Zhao Peng.

"Your Majesty, the little emperor of Jiannu Fulin has left Yanjing. All the Green Camps in the capital have withdrawn, and most of the Eight Banners have also left. Only less than one-third of the population in Yanjing is left." Zhao Peng reported this to Zhu Cixuan.

"Okay, great, I can finally return to the Forbidden City where I have lived since I was a child! Come on, prepare the carriage and horse, I will return to Beijing immediately!" Zhu Cixuan said happily.

"Your Majesty must not be in a hurry!" Zhao Peng stopped Zhu Cixuan's impulse, "Let me bring the new army and the Jinyiwei into the city first, so as not to cheat Jiannu and ambush the dead soldiers in the city assassinate Your Majesty. When I arrive at me to confirm the safety of the capital, Your Majesty will return to the Forbidden City."

Zhu Cilang thought for a while and felt that what Zhao Peng said was very reasonable, so he said, "Zhao Qing's words are reasonable, so you should bring someone to Yanjing City first. I hope to ensure the safety of Yanjing as soon as possible. I will return to the Forbidden City as soon as possible. After arriving in the Forbidden City, I will go back to Nanjing first and move the Ming court back to Yanjing."

"I obey the order!" Zhao Peng bowed.

After leaving Zhu Cilang's temporary palace, Zhao Peng immediately took the Jinyiwei and went upstream along the Haihe River to the Ming New Army Barracks outside Yanjing City. Then he ignited his troops and drove towards Yanjing City five miles away.

"The Ming Dynasty King is back!" Although there were not many people who stayed in Yanjing City, only more than 100,000, the Han people who stayed were the most staunch supporters of the Ming Dynasty. Even the bannermen who stayed in the city were also people who had a sense of identity with the Ming Dynasty.

All the people in Yanjing City cut off their braids, took off their jackets, changed back to Hanfu, and stood outside Zhengyang Gate to welcome them.

Zhao Peng brought the new army and the Jinyiwei into the city, and then the Jinyiwei carefully inspected every street and alley, and interrogated and registered the people who remained in the capital.

All the population staying in the capital was registered by the Jinyiwei. Zhao Peng also sent a group of people to the prefect's office to read various archives and materials left by the prefect Yuan Daqing.

Zhao Peng himself took a team of Jinyiwei to the Forbidden City.

When we arrived at the gate of the Forbidden City, we saw that the Chengtian Gate was open, and more than a dozen Eight Banners Army guards of the Zhengbai Banners stood at the door. Seeing Zhao Peng coming up with the Jinyiwei, the Eight Banners Army immediately stepped forward to salute: "We are looking forward to the Forbidden City for the Emperor Ming Dynasty. Since we are here, we will return the Forbidden City to you."

Zhao Peng asked an Eight Banners soldier led by: "Why didn't you leave Beijing with your emperor?"

The Eight Banners soldier replied, "Mr. Marquis, we don't want to leave. My mother at home is old and may not be able to withstand a long journey, so she stayed there. I am willing to join the Ming army and go to the battlefield for the Marquis to kill the enemy!"

Zhao Peng asked again: "Then are they willing to stay?"

"Yes, it's inconvenient for us to have elderly people at home and are unwilling to leave the capital, so we stayed. We are all ordinary bannermen, unlike those officials, who have cars or have someone to carry sedan chairs, we can only rely on two legs. Where can the old man walk the way?" The Eight Banners soldier in the lead replied.

Zhao Peng smiled and said, "Since you stayed, let's live and work here. If you want to join the Ming army, as long as we verify that it is not for staying for details, you are welcome to join us! We can strive to make achievements and find a job."

"We are willing to be loyal to the marquis to the death!" More than a dozen Eight Banner soldiers knelt down on the ground to salute.

When I walked into the Forbidden City, everything in the city was no different from when I left the Forbidden City. However, after entering the harem, I found that the originally valuable items were almost gone, and the furniture and vases in the room were taken away. This was not necessarily done by Bumubutai and Fulin. There were so many palace maids and eunuchs in the Forbidden City, and some people were not clean.

Now the harem of the Forbidden City is empty, and there are not even a few people. Only a few eunuchs who are unwilling to leave are left. The other eunuchs and palace maids all left with the Qing Dynasty.

After Zhao Peng entered the Forbidden City, he immediately ordered the Jinyiwei to gather all the eunuchs who had not left and asked the Jinyiwei to conduct a careful search of the Forbidden City without any mistakes.

After a strict inspection, it was confirmed that the safety of Yanjing City and the Forbidden City was ensured. Zhao Peng asked Fei Ge to send a letter to Dagukou: The Forbidden City is safe, and Your Majesty can enter the capital.

After receiving the report, Zhu Cilang, who was already eager to return to the Forbidden City in Yanjing, immediately ordered to set off and leave Dagukou and enter Beijing.

The car driver and luggage items were already ready, and Zhu Cixuan could leave for Beijing with an order.

When they learned that the Emperor of Ming Dynasty had returned, they went from Dagukou to Yanjing, and the banks of the canal were filled with people who were welcomed by the sidewalks. They witnessed His Majesty's dragon boat passing through the river.
