"Modern Chinese literature starts with the May Fourth New Culture Movement. This movement can be said to be a linguistic revolution that opposes classical Chinese and advocates vernacular Chinese.

This linguistic revolution is closely related to the overall development of modern Chinese literature and has a profound impact on the entire modern literature.

In the vernacular movement, one intellectual after another who explored this field emerged. They made unremitting research and exploration in terms of language, rhythm, expression methods, etc.

As a representative figure of the New Culture Movement, Yuan Yanshu has an irreplaceable and even unique important position in the history of modern Chinese literature and poetry. His unique artistic charm and pioneering creative tendencies in his poems undoubtedly impressed many readers, and can be said to be a rare treasure in modern Chinese literature.

Yuan Yanshu is also a poet with great language talent. He not only wrote poetry in Chinese, but also used major languages ​​around the world, such as English, Japanese, French, German, and even Hindi. Therefore, he was also the leader of modern poetry in the 20th century, no doubt.

His friend T-S-Eliot commented that his talent had nowhere to be placed.

His friend Xu Zhimo said that I wrote poems because of two people, one is Yuan and the other is Lin.

But that "Lin" said that Yuan Yan Shu not only taught her to write poetry, but also taught her to be a human being...

Yes, she was his first female disciple, and people at that time called him "Senior Sister Yuanmen".

Yuan Yanshu himself once mentioned in his lecture: Poetry is a faint and humming whisper from the poet's heart.

This sentence fully demonstrates Yuan Yanshu's poetic concept. Poetry is a reproduction of true thoughts deep in his heart; poetry is the product of emotional saturation; poetry creation should be free, without constraints, and without carvings.

Moreover, Yuan Yanshu laid his own poetry style very early, and he could see his creative philosophy in the "Three Olds" published in 1921.

At that time, he suffered from acute tuberculosis. He was probably the shortest incubation period in history, and his life was on the verge of being on the verge of the line. In such a desperate situation, he began to write poetry, fighting against the disease.

What is most surprising is that the earliest language he used was not his native Chinese and English that he had already become proficient in, but his newly learned Japanese, which was "Don't Fear of the Storm" that became popular all over Japan in the future.

To describe Yuan Yanshu's "Not Fearing the Storm" in one word, that is - quality.

Perhaps because he is a beginner, the whole poem is as simple as a farmer's self-description, but it has the power to touch people's hearts.

No wonder Mori Ouwai, one of the three major Japanese writers, loves this poem in particular and praises Yuan Yanshu as "Bai Lotte of the 20th century."

Later, Yuan Yan visited Japan and went to the cemetery outside Mori Ou, and burned him his own hand-written "Not Fearing the Storm".

You can feel the patriotism in the author's heart and the sad heart that was unfulfilled at the time, after reading this poem.

No wonder Mr. Lu Xun, who is as famous as Mr. Hongjian, loves this poem in particular and says, "The literati of our generation are unfortunate because there is Hongjian."

When Mr. Lu Xun passed away in 1936, Yuan Yanshu happened to be out of the country. When he learned the bad news, he burned him the "I Love This Land" he wrote.

The so-called poetry is the voice of the heart, which is about this kind of poetry.

To use one to describe him, "I Died from Handsomeness", that is - Zhi.

In fact, this poem is the most typical poetic work of intellectuals.

Unlike "Not Fearing the Storm", this poem requires a certain reading ability to understand the wonders; it also requires careful consideration to understand what the author is saying.

"I Died in Handsome" uses concise format and humorous language to expound rich thoughts and profound philosophy.

If you can understand this poem, you will know that the author is a great poet and has a great soul.

As the famous British poet William Butler Yeats said, Yuan Yanshu is a lucky person with an unparalleled sensitivity and finishing touch given by God.

In 1939, when Yeats died, Yuan Yan was unable to attend the funeral in London because she was listed as an unpopular person by the British government, so she had to burn him the "I Died in Handsome" she wrote.

The so-called poetry is a natural gift, which is what it means to be such poetry.

I have to say that Yuan Yanshu is a very humorous writer. "I Died from Handsome" was translated into Chinese by him, and his name is "Heart of Handsome".

There is another anecdote about this poem. After it was published publicly, some people questioned that Yuan Yanshu copied Emily Dickinson's "I Died in Beauty". Except for changing Beauty to Handsome, the two poems are exactly the same.

But Yuan Yan swore that he had never seen Ms. Dickinson's original work. He said that when he was seriously ill and coma, he always heard a lady chanting this poem in his ear, so he recorded it.

This became a famous supernatural event. Some supernatural experts claimed that Yuan Yanshu had the poet's soul, which attracted Ms. Dickinson's poet's soul.

At that time, other writers also defended Yuan Yanshu, saying that a genius poet like him would not have to copy others at all. It is possible that he accidentally heard someone read this poem, and then he remembered it in his mind.

Later, in order to express his apology, Yuan Yanshu sponsored the publication of a complete collection of Dickinson's poems and handed over all the royalties to Dickinson's family.

However, it should be pointed out that Yuan Yanshu did not attach much importance to simple poetry creation, and he liked writing songs more than poetry. He once said that poetry that cannot be sung is still a poem "song".

In this regard, he had a common language with his friend Xu Zhimo. The Crescent School of the latter belonging to was dissatisfied with the fact that the free poets ignored the style of poetry and advocated new metrical verse after the May Fourth Movement.

However, in the spring of 1927, when Xu Zhimo invited him, who was also in Shanghai, to join the Crescent Sect, he decisively refused. (Author's note: The Crescent Sect was first born in the spring of 1926. At that time, the "Morning News Supplement" of the imperial capital was used as the base. In the spring of 1927, the Crescent Sect moved to the Demon City.)

The reason for refusal is that I have to hold a lot of funerals soon and have no time to write poetry.

Later, someone asked him about the poetry genre, and Yuan Yanshu said that if he really belonged to a certain sect, it would be the old school.

Because a common pseudonym for his poems is the old dominator…”
