Chapter 654 Governor of East India

Batavia, the Spice Islands, was originally an important port city of Jakarta, the local Bandan Kingdom. However, forty years ago, the Netherlands invaded the Bandan Kingdom and changed Jakarta to Batavia more than ten years ago. This is the base of the Netherlands in the Spice Islands. The East India Company also sent a large number of troops to station here. Even the Governor of the East India Company, Cohen, personally took charge of Jakarta in order to monopolize the trade of lilacs and other spices.

The Netherlands occupied a large amount of land in the Spice Islands and became the Flangji people who suppressed Malacca and the Spanish in Luzon's largest colonial force until the Kyushu army began to get involved in the Southern Ocean.

An armed merchant ship from the Netherlands slowly sailed into Batavia Harbor. An officer wearing an East Indian military uniform and a feather in his soft hat came down from the armed merchant ship with a few blonde and blue-eyed subordinates, with a little uneasy expression.

"Putmans, why are you blackened your face? Did you lose again when you go to gambling?" A big man with a big belly on the dock saw the Dutch officer getting off the ship and said to him.

"Cruise, you came from America?" The depressed Putmans asked when he saw the big belly man.

"Yes, I want to go back to the Netherlands this year to make quick money, otherwise I will have no money to buy alcohol." As Cruise, a man with a big belly, said the fat on the big belly, shaking slightly, and asked Putmans again, "You are not the governor of Yizhou, and have been changed to the governor of Annan, why are you running to Batavia for nothing?"

Putmans' expression even worse when he heard him talking about his sad things: "In recent years, I have been abandoned by the goddess of luck, Yizhou was conquered by the Eastern people, and Annan Kingdom was also occupied by the Eastern people. My Governor is the end and is now at the headquarters of Batavia."

"When did these Orientals become so powerful that they even occupied many of our Netherlands' territories? I heard a year or two that the Orientals had set up many new passes and imposed large taxes on our merchants, and our profits were much thinner than a few years ago." Cruise said.

"It would be fine if it was just like this, but I was worried that the ambitions of the Orientals would not be the same." Putmans said.

"What do you mean? Could it be that something big will happen to Dongfang again?" Cruise asked curiously.

"It's a long story at this time. We'll have a drink together when we have time. I'm going to see the Governor."

Putmans said goodbye to Cruise and walked towards the Governor's House in Batavia.

In the Governor's Office, Cohen, the Governor of the East India Company, was a thin man lying in a hammock, with two native women fanning him, looking comfortable.

"Governor Cohen. You two retreat." Putmans broke into the Governor's Mansion and drove away two native women.

"Putmans, why are you so irritable? It's not like your previous style." Cohen opened his eyes and was still swaying in the hammock.

"I just went to Annan for trade and found that the customs of the Jiuzhou Army in Annan had been established and many regulations have been added, which are similar to Guangzhou Prefecture." Putmans found a wooden bench.

"As early as last winter, when the Jiuzhou Army occupied Annan Kingdom, didn't the board of directors of our East India Company evaluated the impact of the Jiuzhou Army's actions on our East India Company? Besides, the taxes of Guangzhou Prefecture Customs are no higher than those collected by the Ruan and Zheng families at the time." Cohen disagreed, "At the time when we tried our best to fight with the Ming Dynasty, wasn't it just to let them open the sea ban? As long as the Oriental people open customs and trade with us, we can benefit from it. And we have the Spice Islands in hand, which is a continuous wealth. You and I are like rich people sitting on a mountain of gold, with endless power and money to enjoy."

"Your idea is good, but what would those old guys on the board think if our most important spice island is lost in our hands?!" Putmans said.

"What?!"

When Cohen heard Putmans' words, he immediately stood up from the hammock and showed a pair of sharp eyes. The Spice Islands were taken down by him by a group of subordinates from many local kingdoms. If someone wanted to seize the Spice Islands, it would have really violated his reverse scales.

"Who wants to take away the Spice Islands, is it the Spaniards, the Florians, or the Kyushu Army?" Cohen asked in a bad tone.

"The Spaniards and Flangji people are so dying that they have such courage. We are already polite to them if we don't force the Strait of Malacca and Luzon. This time, the one who covets our Spice Islands is the Kyushu Army!" Putmans said.

"But the last time our board of directors evaluated that the Jiuzhou Army was just to regain lost territory, such as Penghu, Yizhou, and Annan, were once the territory of the Ming Dynasty. The Spice Islands were never the territory of the Orientals, and they had no reason to attack us. Moreover, the Orientals are vast and vast, and there are countless spices, tea, and porcelain. How could they look at the Spice Islands?" Cohen said.

In his impression, the Spice Islands produced the most important spices for them in Europe, so if the Kyushu Army had a crush on the Spice Islands, the purpose was to compete for spices. The Celestial Empire has never lacked spices.

"Maybe the Jiuzhou Army sent a fleet to conquer the Spice Islands not for spices, but for the sake of other things other than spices, such as just for the sake of their rulers. Face is the most important thing for the Orientals. Two hundred years ago, they had an eunuch named Sanbao who led an extremely large fleet to the South China Ocean, causing countless kingdoms in the South China Ocean to surrender to the Ming Dynasty, just to show off their national prestige. You can't imagine what decisions they would make to please the rulers." Putmans said.

"You can't make judgments out of thin air, you need to pay attention to evidence," Cohen said.

"I went to Annan Kingdom and saw that they were secretly training the fleet, reorganizing the Zheng family and Ruan family troops, and strengthening their military strength. The Independent Corps was renamed the Conquering Corps. They also built fortresses in the Priyango area and controlled the estuary of the Lancang River. All traces indicate that the Jiuzhou fleet will definitely go south within a few years. We should be prepared in time to avoid the tragic defeat of Taiwan City and Shenglong City that day." Putmans said.

"How do you think we should deal with it?" Cohen's expression became solemn.

"The Kyushu Army has a great goal. If the Spice Islands are missing, not only will our interests be affected, but the Spanish and Folangji people cannot escape. Therefore, I propose to report to Malacca, Luzon, and Banten to invite Spain, Folangji and the Governor of Great Britain to come to Batavia to discuss the formation of an alliance." Putmans said.
