Chapter 354 Tang Sanzang's Journey to the West

Dacien Temple.

"The eldest princess rejected our proposal?" Master Sanzang's tone sounded plain.

"Well, she said that the views in the Book of the Gods are only the author's, and serializing novels does not represent the attitude of the newspaper. She also said that we can also find an author to write a novel about worshipping Buddha. As long as the one written is as good as the Book of the Gods, then the Chang'an newspaper can also publish and serialize them." The governor of Dacien Temple said a little uneasy. He had already gone to the Chang'an newspaper several times in a row, but he had not completed any discussion.

The name of Master Sanzang is Xuanzang, and the name of the layman is Chen Yi. Xuanzang is his Dharma name, and Master Sanzang is a respectful title given to him by others.

In the Tang Dynasty, Master Sanzang was a respectful title for those who were proficient in the sutras, laws, and discussions of the Tripitaka. He was also called the Tripitaka monk, the Tripitaka master or the Tripitaka master. He often referred to the monks who translated Buddhist scriptures from India and the Western Regions in Chinese.

Xuanzang is just one of the more famous Tripitaka Masters of the Sutra.

Xuanzang, 54 years old this year, traveled 50,000 miles west in the first year of Zhenguan. After hardships, he arrived at Nalanda Temple, the center of Indian Buddhism to obtain the true scriptures. He studied all the Mahayana and Hinayana doctrines at that time in the past 17 years, and brought back 150 Buddha relics, seven Buddha statues, and 657 sutras and treatises. He has been engaged in translating Buddhist scriptures for a long time.

He and his disciples translated a large number of Buddhist scriptures, including the Great Prajna Sutra, the Heart Sutra, the Deep Secret Sutra, the Yoga Sage, etc.

“Does there be any novel about Buddha?”

Xuanzang seemed to be thinking.

Since he presided over the Dacien Temple, he founded the Faxiang Sect and has always been actively engaged in translating the classics brought back from the Buddhist scriptures. He is not too concerned about the mundane affairs in the temple.

However, the popularity of the List of Gods has had a great impact on Buddhism recently, and even affected the incense of Dacien Temple.

As a monk, no matter how calm you are, you cannot be as calm as you see the loss of believers.

What's more, Xuanzang had also read the chapter of the Conquest of Gods and thought that this was the novel of Gods and Demons, which was not a fact or history at all. But he had to admit that the novel was written very well, but it was indeed seriously involved in private goods, and it actually wrote many of the Buddhist Buddhas as disciples of their Taoist gods. This is too much.

"Abbot, the little monk thinks that Princess Yuse still holds a grudge against what happened back then." The governor monk Dao.

The so-called incident back then was naturally the absurd thing that happened with Xuanzang's disciple Monk Bianji when Yuse was still Princess Gaoyang. Although the affairs of the two were full of storms, they were not at the end of the situation. However, later some people in their Buddhist family couldn't stand this matter and did some tricks. So, the golden pillow that Gaoyang gave to Bianji was secretly taken away by a thief. Then the thief was caught by Yongzhou Prefecture again, and the golden pillow was pulled out. Finally, the princess and Bianji had an affair in court, and finally the princess, whose proud disciple Bianji, was beheaded and the princess was You.

Originally, Monk Bianji was a proud disciple of Xuanzang, and he helped him translate many Buddhist scriptures. Even Xuanzang's book on the Great Tang and Western Regions written based on his experience of seeking scriptures in the west was also compiled by him oral and Bianji records.

Xuanzang once regarded Bianji as his successor and the next generation abbot of the future Dacien Temple.

That incident was caused by the Buddhists' own people. Bian Ji was killed, Dacien Temple was greatly damaged, Xuanzang lost his beloved disciple, and Gao Yang was also severely punished and imprisoned in the mansion for several years.

It is normal for the eldest princess to have resentment.

"I have the twelve volumes of the Western Regions of the Tang Dynasty written by Bian Ji, which was compiled and written by Bian Ji based on my oral description. The timely description is the mountains, rivers, towns, properties, customs, etc. of more than 110 countries and rumored 28 countries I experienced when I traveled to the West. This book is not a Buddhist scripture, but it is also well written. If you take it to the eldest princess, you will say that our Dacien Temple wants to serialize this travel notation in Chang'an News."

"I'm afraid they may not be willing to publish a serial."

"You are a governor who deals with these secular affairs. Don't you know how to adapt? The Holy Temple of the Daozong of Louguan bought the copyright of the Congshen List and spent a lot of money to buy advertising spaces in Chang'an Newspaper to advertise. We can do it. Louguandao pays for the Li family's printing workshop to print the Taoist collection, and we can also print Buddhist scriptures. This printing technique is indeed fast and cheap, so we can print it."

Tang Monk retrieved more than 600 true scriptures back then, and over the years he translated more than 70 and more than 1,300 volumes. These scriptures he retrieved have only copied a few copies over the years, and the translated scriptures also copied only a few copies of the collection.

However, Lou Guan Dao has now begun to print a large number of Taoist collections, and at every turn, thousands of Taoist scriptures are printed and distributed everywhere. The spread of this influence is huge. People also advertise through newspapers and serialize Chongdao novels. Xuanzang believes that these are worth learning from.

The Dacien Temple was built by the emperor today, so it is very large in scale, has a strong incense, and has enough money to support it. Of course, they can do what Zong Shengguan can do.

They seal the Taoist sect, and the Great Ci'en Temple can print Buddhist scriptures.

They published the List of Gods, and the Daciyin Temple can be serialized in Journey to the West.

Didn’t Changan Newspaper say that it is neutral? Then spend money. As long as you have enough money, they will naturally become neutral.

The influence of Buddhism can also be bought with money. For example, if you have money, you can build a magnificent temple, if you have money, you can translate more scriptures, do more rituals, promote Buddhist thoughts more widely, compete for more believers, and even make friends with the powerful and powerful people in the court, talk more for them in the court, etc.

After all, he was a monk who had traveled 50,000 miles. Xuanzang was not the kind of person who only knew how to recite the scriptures of death. He was a person who knew how to adapt.

The governor is like a enlightenment.

"Abbot, when it comes to advertisements, I heard a news in the Chang'an newspaper today. It is said that the Anton General's Pacification Envoy and the governor of Wuzhenzhou Li Xiao wanted to make an advertisement in the Chang'an News newspaper, saying that it was in Chishan Pugang, Dengzhou. A grand slave auction will be held next month. Eight thousand slaves will be auctioned, so that interested people from all over the world can go to the auction."

After hearing this, Xuanzang frowned.

This is indeed quite amazing news.

"Is the news true?"

“It’s true.”

"In this case, you can go to Dengzhou in person. If the price is right, you can buy more slaves back."

Don’t think that Buddhism and Taoism are all monks, but they are really transcendent to the world.

In fact, neither Buddhism nor Taoism is truly transcendent. Some Taoisms are even more transcendent, but few Buddhism are truly transcendent.

In the Tang Dynasty, a large number of slaves were generally kept in monasteries. The ratio of monks to slaves was more than 2 to 1, while in some famous temples, the ratio of monks to slaves was even one to two, one to ten and more.

There are about twenty slaves and servants in ordinary temples on average. Although Dacien Temple, one of the royal temples, has only been established for eight years, because it was built by the emperor, the temple has been huge since the beginning and has a huge temple property.

He was given a large amount of land, slaves, and with Xuanzang's presidency, he was famous and attracted a large number of believers to offer incense, which led to a steady increase in money in the Dacien Temple over the years. Before, Xuanzang personally designed and built the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, but it only cost a drop in the bucket.

There are dozens of slaves in ordinary temples, but famous temples such as Dacien Temple and Daxingshan Temple have thousands of slaves.

Daxingshan Temple, once a royal temple in the Sui Dynasty, is said to have more than 3,000 slaves and servants at its peak.

Nowadays, there are more than a thousand slaves in Dacien Temple. So many slaves not only engage in some miscellaneous work in the temple, but also a large number of them are engaged in production labor in temple fields and temples outside the temple.

Although Buddhist internal laws prohibit the raising of slaves, the temple uses documents to adapt to slaves and servants, and renames the servants and servants.

Those Buddhists used this method of changing concepts to serve slaves. They said that the temples were all pure people and had no choice but to serve. But in fact, pure people were slaves. For example, in the 19th year of Zhenguan, Emperor Taizong granted 100 purified people in Ximing Temple, and one hundred households and hundreds of slaves at one time.

Temples require slaves to farm and cultivate land, work, and clean and servile. The larger the temple, the greater the production, the greater the demand for slaves.

In addition to the rewards from the court, the pure people in each temple took the initiative to buy them outside. There is a cattle and horse market in Chang'an City, and there are slaves and servants in it.

However, in recent years, the world has been relatively peaceful. The source of slaves has dropped sharply and the prices have risen, so it is not so easy for slaves to buy and sell.

Li Xiao wanted to hold a slave auction in Dengzhou, and auctioned 8,000 slaves at a time. The news was amazing. Even Xuanzang, who was not very concerned about civil affairs, gave an instruction in surprise, asking the governor to go to Dengzhou to buy slaves himself.

"If the price is right and lower than that of Changan, then buy more."

Dacien Temple has money, a lot of land, and even has many of its own workshops. Although they have more than a thousand pure people, they are still far from enough. Daxingshan Temple has more than 3,000 pure people, far more than Dacien Temple.

Changan News has not been officially published and sold, but an advertisement in the latest issue has been widely publicized.

There were 8,000 Goguryeo slaves in Chishanpu, Dengzhou and the news that they were about to sell were gone, and in a blink of an eye it spread throughout Chang'an City.

When many people heard this news, they were ready to move.

These days, slaves have a huge market demand, with prices but no market. Slaves have demand at all times, but the market supply has always been insufficient, especially in recent years, there has been an increasing supply in short supply.

Eight thousand servants appeared all of a sudden, how could this not make people sensation?

Just like a shark smelling fishy smell, the families of the powerful and powerful in Chang'an have been seeking this news everywhere.

Even the Emperor Li Zhi in Tai Chi Palace was shocked by the news.

"Who? Li Xiao is going to auction eight thousand slaves in Dengzhou, Goguryeo slaves? Where did he get eight thousand slaves? What's going on?"
