Chapter 78: Loyal Soul

By the time the entire parade was over, Chongzhen led all civil and military officials to the Martyrs' Temple, it was almost noon.

Outside the archway of the Martyrs' Temple, there was a young woman in Huaxin dress, wearing a white filial piety dress, holding the child, and standing there at a loss. Seeing Chongzhen coming, she hurriedly knelt down from afar, shouting long live.

After Chongzhen ordered Wang Chengen to help the young woman up, he spoke: "Wang Zhao, the responsibility for Wang Aiqing's death lies with me. If I hadn't arrested Fan Wencheng, the traitor, as soon as possible, Wang Aiqing would not have died in Liaodong."

Chongzhen continued to say to Wang Zhao in his heart: "It's just that the dead are gone. You still need to live a good life and raise the blood left by Wang Aiqing to be a human being."

Wang Zhao was the wife of Wang Xuanji. When Chongzhen heard that the dead Wang Xuanji mentioned him, he felt sad for a moment, and tears fell down, but he forced himself to not cry out and nodded. The baby who was still under one year old in his arms curiously stretched out his hand to wipe Wang Zhao's tears.

Seeing this, Chongzhen felt uncomfortable and signaled Wang Chengen to announce the decree.

Seeing Chongzhen's gesture, Wang Chengen bowed quickly, then took the imperial edict handed over by the eunuch behind him, and said, "Emperor Fengtian Chengyun, the command said:

The King of the Jinyiwei Qianhu, Xuanji, was loyal to the country and bravely served. Now he donated his life to the country, and was praised and praised. Now he posthumously named King Xuanji as the military minister of Fengtian and recommended sincerity to be the military minister of Yiyi. He specially promoted the Marquis of Dingbei, and had a salary of 1,000 stones. He was fed to his son, Qianwei Qianhu, and was granted the title of three generations.

The other soldiers and scholars, in terms of their merits, were all rewarded.

In the play! The only way for a monarch is to serve heaven, and the merits and demerits and rewards should be clearly distinguished. My words are understood in heaven and earth, and I inform you of them, and I will all hear about it. On the first month of the first year of Chongzhen.”

Then, after reading out the decree of enthroning King Zhao as the third-rank imperial wife, Wang Chengen said: "Wang Zhao, please accept the decree."

Wang Zhao realized this and wanted to refuse, no longer let his son join the army, but was frightened by the imperial authority. For a moment, he was speechless, and finally accepted the order and retreated aside.

Only then did Chongzhen lead the civil and military officials to continue walking into the Martyrs' Temple.

On the first archway, the three words "The Legend of the Martyrs' Temple" written by Chongzhen are in the middle. The big words like iron and silver hooks are filled with an indescribable tragic spirit.

On both sides, there is a couplet. The left side says: "A hundred battles are wrapped around the body, and you should hide the ape and crane tower and the qilin tower;

The right side reads: Qianqiu Lingshuang is here, among which there are Feng Hongbi blood and the clothes of the Pavilion.

Keep moving forward and arrive at the second archway, just like the first archway in front, but the couplets above are different. The left one says: The green blood stains yellow sand, and the righteousness is achieved and the righteousness should be immortal;

The lower line on the right is: Elite Shining Shi, greedy for life and fear of death, don’t go here.

When we arrived at the third archway, the left and right sides were no longer couplets, but instead became two sentences.

On the left is: No one knows your name;

On the right is: Your achievements will last forever.

The middle of the archway is no longer like the first two archways, but like this couplet on the archway, and it is also a vernacular saying: The heroic spirit will always be there.

When many civil servants saw this, they felt disgusted - so many great scholars could write a few sentences better than this, right?

But many generals don’t think so. Even if the civil and military officials are separated from each other, the generals usually do not read as much as civil officials, and they mostly know a few words.

Now the archway is engraved with the ground. Although it is in plain language, it is simple and easy to understand, but it just right the taste of these rough men.

Until he entered the main hall of the Martyrs' Temple, there was a statue of Yue Wumu in the middle, and a huge incense burner stood in front of the statue. After Chongzhen lit the incense first and inserted it into the incense burner, all civil and military officials went forward to enter the incense one by one.

The ground was filled with blue smoke, covering the entire hall, becoming more and more sacred and solemn. Chongzhen also began to carefully look at the main hall of the Martyrs' Temple.

Behind the statue of Yue Wumu, a high land sign is engraved with the handwritten text of Emperor Chongzhen: Since the descendants of Yanhuang, all heroes and patriots who sacrificed their lives for China will be immortal!

Behind the back are the land tablets, layer by layer, even if you can’t count them. Some have names engraved on them, and more, there are not even names on them, only the words "Xiang Wei" are written on them.

There are many murals on the surrounding walls, including the story of Yun Chang’s defeat and leaving Maicheng, Yang Zaixing’s bloody battle against Xiaoshang River, and twelve golden medals to return to Yue Fei.

Behind the scene is the scene where the generals such as Tong Zhonggui from the Ming Dynasty and Jiannu Nurhaci fought to death.

In the end, Wang Xuanji sat upright on the horse and launched a desperate charge against Jiannu and others.

Chongzhen went to Maicheng from Guan Yunchang at the beginning and looked at it one by one until the last portrait of Wang Xuanjidi.

However, Chongzhen couldn't help but reach out to touch the portrait, and what he thought was whether it was worth it or not to use these Jinyiwei to catch Fan Wencheng's traitor?

Thinking about Wang Xuanji kneeling in front of him and pledged to capture Fan Wencheng alive, Chongzhen's eyes couldn't help but wet.

With his hand touching the wall, Chongzhen suddenly shouted loudly, "Heroic spirit! Return! Heroic spirit! Return!"

After shouting, the tears in my eyes could no longer be held back, and the tears rolled down one by one.

The civil servants behind him did not react anyway, but felt that Chongzhen's play was too much.

However, the generals, such as Mangui, Ma Xianglin and others, heard the heartache against the soldiers who died in battle from the roar of the return, and felt the same way, the generals were all red in their eyes and choked speechless.

It was not until the Minister of Rites Meng Shaoyu came to remind him that Chongzhen wiped his tears and continued to pay tribute to the heroes in the Martyrs' Temple.

After the cumbersome memorial ceremony was completed, Chongzhen then led all civil and military officials out of the Martyrs' Temple.

At this time, the vast open space between the Martyrs' Temple and the archway was already crowded with people. Only the place where Chongzhen and the officials were left to walk were separated by the soldiers of the Five City Military and Ma Si by human walls.

When the crowd saw Chongzhen coming out of the Martyrs' Temple, they all knelt on the ground and shouted long live.

Chongzhen went and said, "I will just stay calm."

This Martyrs' Temple was originally the place where heroes were worshipped. Since then, all those who sacrificed their lives for the country, regardless of civil and military affairs, nor of official positions, were all admitted to the Martyrs' Temple, so that heroes could enjoy blood and food.

No matter who is present today, including me, or the next generation of our descendants, we should not forget who gave us a stable life.
