Chapter 151 "Nock Creek Secret Covenant"

In an ordinary monastery in Azanbuya, Desay hugged Sir Richard Wellesley, a British Foreign Secretary, who came from afar. Then, both sides retreated and the two began a private secret talk for more than 90 minutes.

After the talks, the Regent of Desay and Sir Wellesley walked out of the secret room together and, under the forensicity of the representatives of both sides, signed a Treaty of Azambuya that could be made public to the world.

The next day, Desai invited the visiting British Foreign Secretary to rush to Nock Creek together to supervise the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force, and signed a "Knock Creek Secret Agreement".

Every day during the day, Desai and Wellesley drank British tea together, rode horses and hunted together, discussing major events in Europe and the world. After evening, the two sides returned to Azambuya and held luxurious banquets in turn, as if the bloody war between the two armies had never happened.

According to the provisions of the Unpublished Additional Protocol to the Treaty of Azanbuya, the Secret Treaty of Nok Creek: the British Empire and the United Kingdom of Catalonia will normalize relations within two months, and send permanent ambassadors to London in Manresa... The British local fleet, the Mediterranean fleet, will continue to protect the trade and shipping of Mediterranean countries, and will, in particular, work with the Navy of the Kingdom of Catalonia to defend peace and prosperity along the Mediterranean coast and prevent regional conflicts;

Second, the London Cabinet and Parliament will pay 2.5 million pounds of war compensation to Desai before the end of 1810, which is only 500,000 pounds less than the initial ones of Desai. In addition, since 1811, the British Empire has given no less financial assistance to the Kingdom of Catalonia (including the Grand Duchy of Warsaw) every year than the Cadiz government (Spanish Resistance), that is, 1.2 million pounds;

Third, before 1815, London must regard the future Kingdom of Poland, as an equally important country like Russia and Prussia. Britain's huge fleet will promise to train a strong naval force for Poland (Catha) and maintain an absolute neutral position in the war or conflict between Russia and Poland...

In return, Desai and his commanded French-army must conscientiously implement the provisions of the Treaty of Azanbuya. The first and most important point is to ensure that the British expeditionary forces pass through the French-occupied areas without any damage, namely, the Fortress of Mafura and Montachik, board the ship from the east coast of the Atlantic Ocean, and return to the British mainland;

Secondly, Desai will provide drawing parameters and ordnance technicians through patent authorization to assist the British in imitating the Hruna 1810 rifle, pepper bottle multi-tube revolver, barbed wire mesh, chemical telegraph, etc. The total patent fees of 1 million pounds have been included in the war compensation for the secret agreement between the two countries. It is explained here that the British representative solemnly promised to Desai that the above-mentioned new weapons imitated by the British within three years will never flow into Central and Eastern Europe, especially Russia;

In addition, the southern troops led by Desai must leave Portugal before 1811 and withdraw all the troops to Zaragoza... Catalan and Poland controlled by Desai will abide by their commitments and will not actively engage in hostility against the British and Cadiz government troops... Desai must refuse or delay the combat orders from Paris and Madrid against the coalition forces...

"This is a Tilsite-style peace treaty!" After signing the secret treaty, Desai said excitedly to the many adjutants around him, "It will ensure that my Mediterranean Kingdom will not be hostile and invaded by the anti-French alliance within 4 years."

In addition to receiving £2.5 million in war compensation from the British and financial aid of £1.2 million a year, the Kingdom of Catalonia recognized by the great powers in the state relations of the Iberian Peninsula will win years of precious peace, and with the help of the British, Catalonia (Poland) will also have a naval fleet under construction.

At the same time, he paid only a trivial price: releasing the defeated British expeditionary force back to China was just to continue the "gentlemanly friendship" among the European powers. With the fact that General Juno's troops defeated Portugal in 1808, even Emperor Napoleon could not publicly accuse Desay of his actions, which had seriously betrayed the interests of the French Empire;

Transferring some new weapons is just a way to go and give the British cabinet a step to go. With the strong industrial manufacturing strength of Britain, even without the help of Catalan ordnance engineers, the British would complete the development and equipment of Minnie warheads and firing guns within 3 to 5 months, not to mention the hooked wire mesh that can be learned at once. As for chemical telegraphs, it is purely a waste of money. After the Hruna Ordnance completed the development of Moorish telegraphs, the Spanish invention was not worth a penny at all. Therefore, it would be better to take advantage of them before they depreciate and let the British act as suckers and buy a good price.

After another month or two, after receiving the cash accepted by Britain, Desai will order all its troops to evacuate from Portugal. As for how the situation of this newly conquered country will develop, Desai is too lazy to ask about it.

"Marson, aren't you worried about the anger from Paris?" Chief of Staff Rusty warned the proud superior. The emperor's latest order to command the French commander of the north and south was to encircle and annihilate the British Expeditionary Force, rather than letting the British go.

Desai shrugged and smiled disapprovingly: "It's a pity, my general! Who made the Paris order come too late? It will not be served on the front line after we signed this peace with the British."

General Rusty was speechless for a moment. As the chief of staff, he certainly knew the real reason why the Paris messenger was late. It was because Desai ordered the Military Intelligence Bureau to secretly do something bad, and actually pretended to be a Spanish guerrilla team to intercept and kill two groups of Paris messengers on the winding and rugged mountain roads.

Even though he always wears a gorgeous uniform of a French marshal, Desai still shows the natural temperament of a mature politician: in order to win his own interests, he can do various conspiracies without any moral limits.

Of course, this was the result of learning from another French marshal, and Desai's teacher was Marshal Bernardote, who was far away in Sweden. On August 21, 1810, Bernardote was elected as Prince and Regent by the Swedes. Soon after, the former French marshal converted to "Luther Protestantism" and landed in Sweden with his family and confidants, and then commanded the Swedish army.

On the surface, Bernardote tried to keep Sweden neutral in the war between Britain and France, but in essence, the newly released Swedish prince was very dissatisfied (jealous) Napoleon and began to secretly send people to negotiate with the British, Prussians, Austrians, and even the mortal enemy Russians under the pretext of "the mainland blockade policy infringes on the interests of Sweden."

Intelligence sent from the Military Intelligence Agency showed that at the latest, Stockholm would sign a peace treaty with London and secretly join the anti-French alliance. In view of this, Desai was forced to make up his mind to sign a secret treaty with the British to sell French interests before Bernardote.
