Chapter 364 How did Hitler's SS come here?

At this moment, Montgomery, who was commanding the British Eighth Army Group to conduct landing operations, was wearing a black beret covering his sparse hair; sitting in his command car, watching teams of fully armed soldiers advancing towards the inland of Sicily.

Because the Italian coastal defense forces and the local Sicilians did not have a fighting spirit; coupled with their vulnerable combat effectiveness, when the British Eighth Army Group commanded by Montgomery began to land south of Syracuse, these Italian coastal defense forces quickly gave up resistance, even fled, or surrendered, allowing Montgomery's troops to easily occupy many beachheads.

And it also advanced nearly 100 miles toward the inland of Sicily.

On the way the Montgomery troops marched, there were still many Sicily cheering happily while dancing the homemade American flag in their hands, and shouting excitedly: "Long live King George, Long live Britain, Long live the US troops!"

For the warm welcome of these Sicilians, both Montgomery and the soldiers of the Eighth Army Group were excited and smiling happily.

Sicily has two railways that run around the island and diagonally run through the northwest and southeast of the island, as well as crisscrossing highways, so the transportation is relatively convenient.

In addition, the ports also include Syracuse on the east coast, Augusta, Catania, and Gera on the west coast, as well as the capitals Palermo and Messina.

There are 10 airports and 4 seaplane airports throughout the island.

After a large-scale bombing by the British and American Airlines team, there were still several bombed black smoke and flames at these airports, and most of the German planes parked in the airport were also blown up and destroyed.

However, these destroyed aircraft were the old models of BF109 fighters and FW190 fighters that the Germans specially bombed by British and American air forces according to the combat methods arranged by Guderian and Chen Yanlong in advance; rather than the new models of the Me262 jets and Ta152 fighters.

While the British and American aviation forces and fleets were fighting with the German air defense firepower and fighter fleets; Montgomery also quickly commanded his troops to complete the landing operations.

The 13th Army, the 30th Army, and the 1st Division, which was the most brave, under Montgomery, had little practical experience; but the 1st Canadian Division, which was brave enough to help more than 2,000 paratroopers from the British 1st Airborne Brigade, assault Catania.

He also rushed into Mount Etna and other areas.

But Montgomery's primary combat mission was to command his troops to complete landing and occupation in the Siracuse to Pakino area southeast of Sicily, and then advance towards Messina and Palemo, the capitals of Sicily, and to occupy and liberate there.

Because the nature of this combat mission in Montgomery was exactly the same as the strategic attempts of the Sicily landing campaign decided by the Casablanca Conference.

The decision of the British and American senior officials was to seize air and sea control on Sicily, and then force Italy to withdraw from the war by transporting airborne troops and landing troops to land on the south bank of Sicily, then attacking north, capturing the entire Sicily, and bombing major Italian cities at the same time.

"Commander! I just received the battle situation on General Patton's side. They are fighting with the German SS now, and the battle situation seems to be getting more and more intense. Should we send troops to support?"

Just as Montgomery was sitting in his command car, and Hen was welcomed and cheered by the Sicilians, a combat staff member hurriedly ran to his command car and asked anxiously.

"No! Our current goal is to get from Syracuse to Pakino. As long as we capture these two places, we can reach Messina more quickly than Patton's 7th Group and free it up!"

Montgomery waved his hand and smiled.

"Ah! But what if General Patton's troops could not resist the Germans?"

The combat staff member said a little worried.

"Hey! No, I believe that Patton's combat maniac would never be defeated by the Germans in this way! And according to our reliable news, there are only two German divisions in the entire Sicily, with a total of more than 40,000 people! And we are now an army of hundreds of thousands, so why are we afraid of them?"

"And those Italian troops, which seemed to be numerous, were simply soft-legged crabs, vulnerable and dispersed at one blow; have you not seen the Italians in the entire Sicily welcome us? This is what people want! That guy Hitler is simply a sin, and everyone hates it!"

"Anyway, the final winner of this Sicily battle is ours. In other words, we don't have to worry too much about Patton's troops. If we really want to support us, we need the orders of General Cunningham, Deputy Commander Alexander, and Commander Eisenhower!"

"Of course I will obey the orders of our Prime Minister Churchill or Her Majesty the Queen of England; but if it were only General Patton's personal request for help, I would probably think twice, because we still have very important combat missions that have not been completed!"

Montgomery retorted with a gloomy face as she was worried about the other party.

"Yes! Commander!"

Seeing this, the combat staff member closed his mouth very cleverly and quickly replied respectfully.

In fact, he originally wanted to say that Patton's troops were fighting fiercely with the new German troops, and it seemed that they were from Hitler's most elite SS. But now he didn't know how many troops this SS had suddenly appeared.

"By the way, do you know if the German troops stationed in Syracuse are the Pans? Is it the Hermann Goring Division, or the 15th Armored Division?"

After seeing the other party finally speaking to him respectfully, Montgomery entered the topic with satisfaction.

"It's the German Hermann Goring Armored Division and the 1st Airborne Division, as well as the 29th and 15th Armored Divisions who have just arrived in the southwest of Mount Etna for deployment. They are now facing our 13th Army and the paratroopers of the 1st Airborne Brigade!"

The combat staff continued to report.

"What! Tell me a joke! How could the German army have so many troops concentrated on our front line? Didn't you just say that Patton was fighting fiercely with the German army?"

Upon hearing this, Montgomery suddenly felt something was wrong, stared at the sight of surprise and shouted.

"Yes! General Patton's troops are now fighting fiercely with the Germans!"

The combat staff responded uneasy.

"Since that's the case, why can the German army still dispatch so many troops to deal with us? Didn't our intelligence system say that there are only two German divisions in the entire Sicily? Why are there suddenly so many more German troops coming now!"

Montgomery was puzzled and shocked.

"Because General Patton was fighting against the German army, Hitler's most elite SS!"

The combat staff replied in panic.

"Ss! Why did Hitler's SS come here, when did they come here, and how many troops did they come!"

After hearing this, Montgomery was not calm at all, but screamed in panic.

"We are still communicating and communicating with General Patton's intelligence personnel, and this matter has now been reported to Commander Eisenhower!"

The combat staff replied.

"Go to check it out quickly. I want to know as soon as possible how many troops the SS has are fighting against Patton's troops!"
