Chapter 24 The Mysterious Man
The lake in the mountains is as calm as a mirror. Accompanied by a high-frequency mechanical roar, a biplane "stepped on" the float landed in a light and natural manner as if it was floating leaves, and slowly slid towards the lake shore. At this time, a car was parked alone on the lake shore, with a pair of headlights on it and waiting there motionlessly.
On the taxiing plane, Weiss narrowed his eyes to explore the situation on the shore. There were two people in the car, one had basically no combat power, and the other had weaker combat power than ordinary soldiers. There were no ambush around the car, and only the searchlight was there a certain number of enemy soldiers.
Weiss leaned forward and told the pilot: "Send me to the shore, I'll go up, stand by. Stay away from the shore, be careful not to let the enemy take advantage of the loopholes."
"Be careful yourself!" the pilot reminded.
After a while, the plane arrived at the shore under the propeller thrust. Weiss climbed out of the cockpit, climbed the fuselage to the wing, then jumped and landed on the hard pebbled lake shore.
A man with a not-sized figure walked out of the back seat of the car and said loudly in a jerky Ulster language: "Sir, I am ordered to wait for you here, and there is no other ill intention, please follow me!"
Whether there is any malice, Weiss has come to this point and has no way to turn around. He simply stalked over and replied in Norman: "I am here to meet your governor. Let him come here. Let's talk here, and don't go anywhere else!"
The man then responded in Norman language: "The Lord Scala, the Baron of Sword, is our military governor of Lorraine. He is waiting for you in the castle ahead, and waiting for you alone."
Weiss stood still and looked at the Norman officer with distrust.
"If we want to arrest or kill you, I don't have to stand here at this moment." Officer Norman said quickly, "We show sincerity, and you, can't even take a little bit of courage?"
It has to be said that this provocation made Weis difficult for him to refute. After repeated weighing the pros and cons, he followed the average Norman officer into the car.
The exterior outline of this car shows the rough and hard style of the industrial era, long, large and heavy, and matches it with an engine that is particularly loud when running, while the interior configuration of the car is completely different: the two rows of seats in the rear seat are opposite each other, the leather seats are soft and comfortable, the ground is covered with thick red velvet blankets, the door frames and glass hand are shining golden...
The Norman officer who was accompanying him sat face to the front of the car, but he didn't seem to be planning to talk to Weis. Although Weis was a little curious, in this very special situation, pure curiosity was not enough to be discussed. So the two of them silently met, speechless all the way. The car drove along the mountain road and soon arrived at the familiar Castle of Klumber-Hisen. The huge castle was dark, and except for the hall where the main entrance was located, all the other rooms were not on. Weis spent his energy and glanced at it again. There was indeed only one person in the castle, a red virtual frame, and there were some enemies a little far away. They spread out, and it seemed that they were carrying out warning tasks, rather than rushing to death at any time.
Can this prove his sincerity?
Weiss had no answer in his heart, so he was still nervous at this moment.
The car drove into the castle gate. Although the night was hazy, Weiss could roughly see that the front yard of the castle was cleaned very clean and there was no sense of abandonment or destruction. The situation of resisting the organization's reconnaissance a few months ago was very different. I think only Ze would leave the castle in a state of neither occupied nor properly maintained out of personal emotions.
Through the flat front yard, the car came to the porch of the castle front hall. The hall was lighted and melodious music sounded, but there were neither human voice nor shadows inside. The music obviously had nothing to do with activities such as dinner parties.
After the car stopped, the Norman officer opened the door and stood by the door and walked: "The Baron of the Norman Empire's Sabre - Lord Scala, the Governor of the Military Governor of Lorraine, is waiting for you."
Weis pulled his clothes, took a deep breath, and walked into the hall with his chest. The layout of the hall was still the same, but the crystal chandeliers seemed to have changed, and the new ones were shiny, and there seemed to be fewer display items. Of course, these were not the key points, the focus was on the person sitting on the sofa. When he looked at him in front of him, it seemed that a volcano suddenly erupted in Weis' mind, and countless hot magma blew out, and his thinking was overwhelmed, but he "distanced" on the spot. After a while, he woke up from his unconscious state and sat up like a conditioned reflex. Then he found himself lying on the sofa with a thick blanket covered with a thick velvet blanket. The hall was quiet, and only the firewood in the fireplace made a crackling sound while burning.
"Awaken?"
A calm and easy-going sound came from the sofa opposite.
Weis looked up and saw that although the person in front of him had a little more vicissitudes and coldness, his thick eyebrows, bright eyes, high nose bridge, broad lips, and plump chin were still the same as he remembered. The unique sense of intimacy almost made him cry. At this moment, the scene of him teaching himself to swim, ride horses, take him to hike, ski, and patiently explaining the principles of firearms. It turned out that he was so smart, diligent, active and motivated, he was so upright and open-minded, understanding, he worked hard, struggled, and fought, but his own strength failed to change the fate of the Klumber Heisen family for many years. His repeated setbacks made him gradually become silent and world-weary, until he carried his bags and embarked on the journey of adulthood passed down from the family through generations...
"Why are you stupid? Don't believe your eyes?" The man with a beard on the sofa and wearing military uniform still spoke in the calm and easy-going tone just now.
Weiss responded with a wry smile: "No, I just didn't expect that we would have a chance to see each other again, and we would meet in a hostile capacity."
Ze, the eldest son of the Klumber Heisen family, sat there quietly and said quietly: "Indeed, I have thought about all possibilities. This is what surprised me the most - the weak and lazy brother who was in the past actually forged steel in the federal army. Now he is the leader of the Lorraine Resistance Movement and was appointed by the guerrilla colonel specially appointed by the Federal Army... It's incredible! Putting aside his current identity and position, I am really proud of you!"
Weiske was not happy at all when he received his brother's recognition. He asked coldly: "In the Norman Empire, your talents and ambitions were given the opportunity to display, and your ideals were realized one by one. Do you feel successful? Do you feel proud?"
Ze sat on the sofa, leaning up to the sky, and said with emotion: "It took me only seven years from a civilian without identity to an imperial meritorious nobleman, which is unimaginable in the Federation! However, a considerable part of this advancement was based on breaking the original order by war, and this war brought endless pain to the people of Wessex and Ulster, which I do not want to see."
Seeing that his brother seemed to be regretful, Weiss seized the opportunity to persuade: "It's still time to stop the horse and turn the dark and turn to the light!"
Ze smiled. After laughing, he looked into Weiss' eyes, and his eyes showed firm aspirations: "If you really think this way, it means that you are not clear enough about reality and have fantasies about those who hold power. Sooner or later, you will suffer a great loss!"
Weiss's persuasion just now was pale and weak in logic and reason. He did not expect too much, but a temptation in attitude, or verbal fire reconnaissance.
Ze continued: "In fact, with my ability, the impact on the war is minimal. In other words, in this war, no matter which camp I join, the result will be the same. Now, I am the baron and general of the Norman Empire, and the military governor of Lorraine. I can protect the majority of the Lorraines in my way and let them survive. So, I have a clear conscience about my choices and actions!"
Weiss smiled contemptuously: "Do you have a clear conscience? If it were me, you could be as if nothing had happened in front of you. When you were alone, you would have suffered a lot and suffered a lot."
This seemed to be in Ze's heart. He hesitated for a moment and sighed: "You are right. I do often fall into this kind of pain, but... I believe that this kind of pain is a necessary journey to success and a test of will and spirit; I believe that efforts will eventually be rewarded, and with my efforts, the Klumber Heisen family will be able to regain the glory of the past."
In Weiss's view, Ze's idea was completely wrong: if war destroyed the Federation, then all the glory of the Klumber Heisen family would be destroyed, and the future glory would be nothing more than a fertile occupation by the Norman Empire. If the Federation reversed and killed, the Klumber Heisen family would be shamed because of the exception of a senior Norman officer and meritorious armor among the direct members. How could they reappear in the past glory?
He stood up and moved his limbs. His previous fainting was obviously a blockage of thinking caused by the host's memory flooding into his mind. He only needed a short rest to recover. Weiss raised his hand and looked at his watch. It had been almost an hour since he landed on the shore, which meant that he had been lying on the sofa for more than half an hour. The time was not long or short. The pilot who was waiting for his own on the lake must be anxious at this moment. He decided not to bother with these emotional and logical issues, but to get to the point: "I came to take Bella away. Where is she?"
Ze also stood up and faced Weiss directly: "She is very good, very safe, and there is no need to worry. I have already talked to her that the life of the guerrillas has no benefit to her and her parents' health. I came to you today mainly to discuss this matter with you - I want my father, mother and Bella to live in a neutral country and come back until the war is over. They are not soldiers, and there is no need to get involved in the battle between soldiers. In this war, they have made enough contributions to the country and can leave with their heads raised."
Ze's views seem reasonable, but in fact there are logical flaws. Only this suggestion moved Weiss. For the resistance movement of the Lorraine people, the Lords and his wife had contributed all their property and devoted themselves to it regardless of their safety. However, they were not soldiers and did not have decent combat power. In the current situation, the guerrillas have been constantly changing their strongholds, and they can only follow the quarrels, fearing, and their physical condition is no longer as good as before. Instead of continuing to let them suffer, why not have some selfishness and let them go to a neutral country that is not disturbed by the war, so that they can also go into battle lightly and lead the guerrillas to fight to the end with the Norman occupying forces.
"If I agree with your advice and ask you to take your father, mother and Bella, will you let me go back to the resistance and continue to lead the guerrillas to fight you?"
Hearing Weiss say this, a calm smile appeared on Ze's face: "I will not force you to bow your head with despicable means. You are willing to fight. I will give you a chance. If one day, you know that you can't defeat us, I will still give you a proper arrangement. This is our brotherhood!"
