Chapter 11 The Sole Survivor
The hanging basket finally rose to the highest point, and the crane moved horizontally along the slide rail for a short distance, sending the hanging basket to the boarding platform on the side.
Weiss climbed out of the hanging basket, walked to the bulkhead next to him, and knocked it lightly with his heel twice, and heard the crisp sound of the steel plate.
This is indeed a flying steel warship!
Weiss couldn't help but feel a little excited when he thought of a brand new door to science being open to him.
"Gentlemen, welcome to board the first-class patrol ship of the Ulster Free Federation Army, the Ranger Dellonge!" The crew members who came to lead the way for them said in a high tone.
"It's such a powerful guy!" Weiss sighed sincerely.
The crew smiled, not saying anything.
"Gentlemen, please pay attention to the weapons you carry. Please lock the insurance. If you go on fire on the ship, it will be troublesome." The lead crew reminded.
The three soldiers, like when they came, each carried a "Grumman Fire Stick", a revolver and a dagger, which was their standard equipment. Weiss carried his own shotgun and carried a tall "Grumman Fire Stick" in his hand.
The reminder of the guide crew was very friendly, which made Weiss feel very comfortable. After checking the weapons, the group walked in the passage. The passage was filled with rumbling mechanical roars, the air was filled with the sour smell of coal burning, and the black coal ash in the corner, everything was telling people that this was really a coal-burning flying warship!
After walking a few steps, a sudden burst of rapid metal raids sounded on the ship, similar to the sound of a church bell ringing, followed by the sound of commands, footsteps, and the sound of mechanical acceleration from everywhere.
"What happened?" "Blonde" asked anxiously the crew responsible for guiding them.
The crew member changed his serious expression: "It's a Level 2 combat alarm, we are ready to open fire."
"Brunette, brown eyes" gritted his teeth and said, "It must have been discovered by those fleeing Norman dogs! Bang hard and knock them into scum!"
As soon as the words fell, Donglong heard two cannons, and the hull was trembling with a clear tremor.
Hearing the sound of cannons, the crew leading the way speeded up without saying a word. Weiss was both curious and worried, so he followed closely.
About seven or eight meters away, turn around the corner and see a round porthole.
The lead crewman approached the porthole and looked at it, saying, "As you expected, you must have found the escaped Norman dog!"
Weiss approached the porthole and looked at the two pillars of smoke and dust generated by the explosion. The target of the flying warship was a towering snow-capped mountain in the northwest, with both bounce points near the top of the mountain.
"Look, it's an avalanche!" said the lead crew, "Those Norman dogs are dead!"
Looking at the avalanche on the snow mountain, Weiss frowned gently. The snow mountain was more than ten kilometers away. Unless the Norman mules had magical snow travel ability, the Normans who had previously besieged the wooden houses would not have retreated there in such a short time. Besides, there was no need for them to climb the high snow mountain at all!
Something is not right!
After more than two minutes, seeing that there was nothing strange on the snow mountain, the warship on his side did not fire again. The crew leader turned around and said, "Okay, let's go! I'll take you to the cabin to rest, where hot soup and comfortable beds are prepared."
The lead crew had already started to walk to the other side, and Weiss's eyes were still staring at the snow-capped mountains in the distance through the porthole. After a moment, he suddenly felt like the snow-capped mountains were moving. When he looked closely, the snow-capped mountains did not move, but a dark gray big guy floated out from behind the snow-capped mountains.
In an instant, the flying warship was filled with urgent alarm rings and harsh whistles. The lead crew hurriedly turned back to the porthole. When he saw the dark gray figure, his face suddenly changed and he muttered:
"Oh no! We met the Norman Empire's armored ships. They actually sent armored ships to cross the border? Is this going to provoke a war! Twenty years of peace have come to an end? Oh my God..."
Weis quickly took out his telescope. In his sight, the "armored ship" in the mouth of the crew leader was revealing its true appearance from behind the hillside of the snow mountain. Its side profile is also the shape of a canned sardine: the top and bottom of the hull are straight, and the sides are full and convex arcs. Its bow is also equipped with artillery, and the barrel is thick and long, looking like a catfish's tentacles; the upper part of the battleship are closed turrets with double-mounted configurations, as well as towering tower bridges and longitudinally arranged chimneys; the side of the side is a single-mounted configuration of artillery cannons, with several pairs of "oys" on the front and back of the side. The huge blades rotate rapidly, providing the battleship with the power to advance and turn...
In terms of size, Weiss estimated that guy was more than three times larger than his "battleship", and the number of artillery was at least at this ratio. Will he win this one-on-one encounter?
Hanging!
Very lingering!
He narrowed his eyes, and the "Enemy and Identification System" then cast a bright red box in his mind. The values inside were indeed much more spectacular than the "guard ship" on his side:
Biological Functions 1984.3/1984.4
Spiritual vitality 2413.9/2586.0
Combat Potential 6243.7-39655.9
Equivalent protection 2937.4-4533.4
Action speed 163.4-1172.2
Meow, this guy’s maximum combat value is nearly 40,000, four times that of his own “guard ship”!
Weiss's thoughts were still in the midst of all kinds of speculations and reverie they saw in front of him. Suddenly, two balls of orange flames appeared in the upper part of the enemy's flying warship, and the double-mounted turrets in front were immediately covered by large grey smoke.
It fired!
Witnessing the real scene of the large-caliber naval gun shooting from the first perspective is the first time in Weiss's life. His anxious little heart was shocked a different way, and it was like the first bend of a roller coaster, and the excitement was still behind...
Seeing the two shells fired by the enemy's flying warships pass through the sky like two meteorites, Weiss said nothing and prayed silently. In front of the warships and cannons, the individual's strength is insignificant. Whether you are a sniper ace, a fighting master, a descendant of a famous family or a star of hope, you can only be at the mercy of fate.
Time passed by second by second, and the shells that broke through the air were getting closer and closer. Weiss' heart was hanging in the air, even less confident than before shooting at the enemy soldiers. He couldn't bear to look directly, but was unwilling to die in an unknown way. So he frowned, gritted his teeth, and even held his breath involuntarily. At the last moment, the naked eye could hardly capture the accurate trajectory of the shells. He felt something flashing through the porthole, and then a sharp, rapid roar that was about to devour the soul rushed into his ears and hit his eardrums!
Through the porthole, Weiss saw the shell falling to the ground. The strong light generated by the explosion made him unable to open his eyes at that moment. At the moment when he closed his eyes, the violent explosion sounded and the strong shaking came.
Weiss quickly reached out to hold the bulkhead to prevent him from falling out of balance.
"Go quickly! Go to the cabin! Be safer there!" The crew member who led the way shouted at Weis and the others.
"Blonde" just walked to the porthole and asked inexplicably: "What's the situation now?"
Before the guided crew answered, the "donglong" sounds like thunder came one after another, and there was a clear and trembling feeling.
"We were ambushed by the Norman armored ships." The guide crew said in an angry tone, "They crossed the border and opened fire at us. This is a naked invasion, and we are fighting back!"
"Blonde and blue-eyed" looked surprised: "But the patrol ship is not the opponent of the armored ship at all!"
The guide crew did not say anything, but the resentment on their faces had turned into grief.
Then, the ship sounded again "Donglong". Two "Donglong" cannons sounded strong and powerful for the first time. After hearing the vigorous and turbulent cannons of the enemy ship, my heart felt very different.
Woolu... Woolu... Woolu...
The alarm sounded suddenly on the flying warship that the submarine was urgently diving in the movie, and Weiss turned his curious eyes to the lead crew. The young soldier wearing a brown turtleneck sweater inside and a black leather jacket outside was opening his mouth to say something. A huge explosion that seemed to devour the world blocked everything, and the cabin passage they were in instantly collapsed: the solid steel bulkhead and hardwood floor were easily torn apart like a piece of paper, and the blazing explosions surged from the bow, as if to roast all the lives here into charcoal!
Weiss closed his eyes in despair.
If he died, it would be a relief. But Weiss did not die. When he opened his eyes again, his whole body was in the process of falling at full speed. In his sight, his "guardship" broke in half, but it did not crash immediately, but instead burned in the air, with thick smoke everywhere, countless pieces of fragments - the steel parts, wooden blocks and various instruments that constitute the hull, as well as the complete human body, fell like raindrops.
Will you still have a way out if you fall from a height of 100 meters?
Weiss's question was answered by fate in a few seconds: he was buffered by cedar branches and fell into a thick pile of snow, vomited two mouthfuls of old blood, and miraculously survived.
In the sky, the "guardship" affiliated with the Ulster Free Federation Army had lost its ability to resist. Even so, the "armored ship" of the Norman Empire continued to fire without mercy, and in a blink of an eye, multiple shells hit.
Even if it is a piece of iron, it will be sieve now.
After a while, the burning "guard ship" suddenly lost its floating power and fell straight with everything on the ship.
The moment he fell to the ground, the mountains swayed, and then there were a series of explosions, and the rolling smoke rose to the sky...
At this time, Weiss lay motionless in the snow, enduring the pain of his muscles and bones, listening to the rumbling thunder, his heart was helpless, sad, and painful, but he could only clench his fists, grit his teeth, and let the tears condense on his temples. In peaceful times, like ordinary people, he had many complaints and dissatisfaction with reality, house prices were too high, wages were too low, girls were too rich, local tycoons were too swaggering, weak were too sad, fools were too hateful, sometimes felt pessimistic, sometimes felt confused, sometimes felt bad luck, sometimes lamenting unfair fate, lack of enthusiasm in life, lack of faith in spirit, and when he was in a battlefield where flesh and blood were constantly facing separation and death, he suddenly realized how precious and happy that simple and peaceful life was!
People who are chaotic are not as good as those of the peaceful dog. As the ancients said, they are sincere and do not deceive me.
I don’t know how long it took, but there was only the “bang” of the Norman standard rifle, and the “bang” of the “bang” of the “Grumman Fire Stick”, which made Weiss fall into deeper despair.
The enemy began to clear the scene, and maybe he was doomed, but this is not the most important thing. What is important is that Dr. Z and the military secrets he brought may not be saved. If he and the black suitcase turned into ashes in the explosion, even if they cannot benefit Ulster Free Federation, at least they will not help the evil. But if he and the black suitcase fall back into the hands of the Norman Empire, what kind of disaster will the Ulster Free Federation and its people who love freedom suffer?
Perhaps it was caused by fatigue, or perhaps it was caused by pain, Weiss fell asleep unconsciously. When he woke up again, it was almost dark. He struggled to get up and looked around. The huge snow forest was burned to charcoal.
He searched around with difficulty but could not find a survivor. Near the wreckage of the flying warship, he saw two delicate remains, tightly embraced by each other. They were charred and had no hair, and could no longer distinguish their appearance. Just a few meters away, the middle-aged man in black was leaning up to the sky, holding the revolver in his right hand, his chest was covered in blood, and his eyes were full of reluctance.
Further apart, Weiss barely identified the bodies of two soldiers from the 1st Special Service Brigade of the Ulster Free Federation Army. They survived the enemy's attack and survived the enemy's siege, but eventually died here.
Many crew members serving on the patrol ships were unable to leave even complete corpses, and the woodlands were filled with incomplete limbs.
As for Dr. Z and his black box, no trace was left at the scene, and the Norman soldiers who were killed and even the dead mule drivers were completely gone as if they had never appeared.
