Chapter Eleven Three years of dormancy and becoming a saint

During the Hedi period of the Eastern Han Dynasty, after Cai Lun's improvement, a relatively standardized papermaking process was formed. The process can be roughly summarized into the following steps: the first is the collection and treatment of raw materials, which is to collect plant raw materials as needed (such as some plant raw materials require skin, while some require stems), and the collected raw materials are treated with certain treatments such as chopping, drying, etc.; the second is the separation of fibers, which is to use the method of fermenting or steaming (with the combination of alkaline substances, such as lime, wood ash, etc.) to disperse the raw materials of plant fibers into fibers.

The third is grinding (beating), which means further dispersing it into fibers by mortaring, and making the fibers produce a certain amount of wire-dividing, and becoming usable pulp; the fourth is papermaking, which means mixing the pulp into a certain concentration of suspension, and then using a papermaking machine (bamboo curtain, etc.) to pulp so that the pulp is evenly interwoven on the papermaking machine to form a thin sheet wet paper web; the fifth is pressing, which means stacking the wet paper webs together, and using a weight-bearing method to remove the moisture in the wet paper web. The sixth is drying, which means drying or drying the wet paper webs, and then peeling it down to become paper.

After the Eastern Han Dynasty, although the process was constantly improved and matured, these steps basically did not change. Even in modern times, in wet papermaking production, the production process was still no fundamental difference from the ancient Chinese papermaking method. The fibers of bamboo are hard, brittle, and easy to break, and technical processing is relatively difficult. The success of using bamboo papermaking technology shows that ancient Chinese papermaking technology has reached a very mature level. Taking the bamboo papermaking method recorded in the ancient Chinese book "Tiangong Kaiwu" as an example, as an introduction. The steps for making bamboo paper in ancient times are as follows:

1. Cut the bamboo and float the pond: Cut the tender bamboos into the pond, cut them for more than 100 days, use natural microorganisms to decompose and wash off the green skin of the bamboo.

2. Boil the bamboos obtained from Wan Foot Fire: Put the above-mentioned bamboos into the "Wang" bucket and steam them with lime for eight days and eight nights.

3. Pound the mortar: Take out the bamboos treated above, put them in the stone mortar, and knock them with the stone mortar until the bamboo is broken, like a mud surface.

4. Swing the material into the curtain: Pour the broken bamboo material into the sink, and use the bamboo curtain to sway the material in the water. The bamboo material becomes a thin layer and attaches to the bamboo curtain. The remaining water flows down the groove from the four sides of the bamboo curtain.

5. Cover the curtain and press the paper: Then repeatedly pass the curtain to make the wet paper fall on the board, which is a piece of paper. In this way, repeat the steps of swaying and covering the curtain to make thousands of wet paper stack, and then add a wooden board to the top to squeeze out most of the water.

6. Roast through heat: lift the wet paper one by one and bake it. The baking paper equipment is made of earthen bricks to form a lane with fire. After the temperature of the earthen bricks rises, the wet paper is placed on and baked. After drying, it is peeled off and made into paper.

Although the papermaking technique Zuo Xiaoyou learned is roughly the same as bamboo paper, there are still differences in details. 11 steps are divided into the following steps:

1. Production: In July and August every year, peel off the skin of the main trunk or branches of the tree with a knife, and then remove the green surface of the skin.

2. Dry materials: Hang the peeled bark inside and outside the yard to expose the sun, and store it for later use after drying.

3. Soak: Place the dried bauble bark in the ditch and stream, soak the clear spring water, or place it in the basin tank and soak it in cool water until the basin is completely soft.

4. Mix ash: First use a sieve to sieve the fire ash, remove the charcoal and other debris, then place the soaked skin in it, so that the skin evenly adhere to the skin (the quality of the skin is related to the firewood being burned. The better the texture of the firewood, the stronger the alkalinity of the fire ash), so that the skin is fully alkaline (the alkalinity of the fire ash is also related to the quality of the paper, and the stronger the alkalinity, the whiter the paper).

5. Steaming: Place the ashed skin in a pot filled with water, cover it with a linen, and steam it over medium heat. The cooking time is generally about 10 hours. The steaming time is related to the alkalinity of the ash. If the alkalinity is strong, it will be short, and if the alkalinity is weak, it will be long. No matter how long the time is, it will be enough.

6. Washing: After the skin is cooked thoroughly, pick the skin that has been cooked thoroughly into the stream, let the water wash away the fire ash attached to the skin, and wash it continuously with your hands, and clean some impurities and hard objects until there are no impurities.

7. Masking: Place the cleaned skin on the stone pier and beat it repeatedly with a wooden hammer until the fibers of the skin can naturally spread out in the water.

8. Toss the paper: First fill the paper bed with 70% full of water, then put the paper mold into the water in the paper bed and fix it with stones, then sprinkle the appropriate amount of pulp (more paper thickness and less paper thin, and must be moderate) in the paper mold. First stir with both hands, then pat it with a uniform rod. After the pulp has settled on the white gauze, remove the stones and slowly tilt up the paper mold to allow the water to filter it dry before lifting it to the sun.

9. Dry paper: Carry the poured paper together with the paper mold to the sun and expose it to the sun. When drying, be sure to pay attention to weather changes and never let the rain damage the paper.

10. Calendering: When the paper is dry until 70% to 80% dry, use a smooth and complete porcelain bowl on the edge to gently polish the back of the paper mold to make the paper tightly attached to the white gauze smoother and more colored.

11. Remove the paper: After the paper is dried, tear a corner with your hand first, and then gently remove the entire piece of paper with a very smooth remover. In this way, all the steps of making paper are completed.

But now the season has passed, and Zuo Xiaoyou can only push the papermaking time until next year. Zuo Xiaoyou is short of manpower now. Of course, Wushi and King Zhao can mobilize manpower for him, but Zuo Xiaoyou can't trust them. If they really send people to him, there will definitely be a lot of "spy" in it. Some things Zuo Xiaoyou doesn't want others to know about, and the best way is to train them by himself. It's too late to find adults now, so he can only buy some boys and girls, and let Xiang Shaolong train these little guys in the military way.

Xiang Shaolong had been in the Duke's Mansion for a long time and gradually became a little bored. On that day, Zuo Xiaoyou went out to buy two hundred boys and girls and entrusted him to cultivate these little guys in the military way. Various skills are second to you, so you must be loyal.

Xiang Shaolong knew Zuo Xiaoyou's ambition, and he was really bored, so he took the job and gave these little guys ideological and political classes every day to let them be loyal to themselves and Zuo Xiaoyou. In addition, Xiang Shaolong also passed on some skills and skills in the army to them, and later taught them different skills in different categories according to the differences of each child. Most boys learned "hard currency" such as swordsmanship, reconnaissance, and wild survival skills, while most girls learned more about spies. Basically, they knew a little, but they were only proficient in one or two.

Some are proficient in mathematics, some are proficient in music, and some are proficient in charming skills. These girls will grow up sooner or later. Xiang Shaolong asked ** to help these girls teach these girls the skills in order to help Zuo Xiaoyou get information in some funerals in the future. It’s not that Xiang Shaolong is cruel, but in this era there are many men and girls, and women’s status is comparable to goods. Although Xiang Shaolong hopes that these girls will have a good future when they grow up, except for him and Zuo Xiaoyou, there are really few men who will cherish the women around him. Instead of doing this, it’s better to let these girls learn how to seduce and please men early. Perhaps they can live a good life in the future without worry.

In the first year of the world of Qin Ji, Zuo Xiaoyou chose to lie dormant. In order to train these children, Zuo Xiaoyou delayed his plan to let Xiang Shaolong enter the army. However, he had a very friendly relationship with Lian Po who returned from the battlefield. Because Zuo Xiaoyou planted grains with a yield of dozens of times increased per mu. Although it was a little late this year and could not be promoted nationwide, because of the greenhouse, it was possible to cultivate seedlings first this year. With enough seedlings, it will be planted nationwide in large quantities next year. As long as there is sufficient food, Zhao State has more sufficient military rations than other six countries.

With enough military rations, Zhao State is not afraid of the protracted war. The war is about logistics. With food, Zhao State will consume its opponents even if it is consumed. This makes Lian Po, who is proficient in military tactics, excited. So after returning to Handan from the front line, Lian Po had just handed over the tiger talisman and ran to Zuo Xiaoyou's mansion to visit, thus becoming friends with Zuo Xiaoyou.

Of course, Xiang Shaolong was also attracted by Lian Po at first sight, but Zuo Xiaoyou said that it was winter this year and it was nothing to enter the army. So when the flowers bloom next spring, they would hand Xiang Shaolong over to Lian Po and let Lian Po take him to the battlefield to make contributions.

Lian Po agreed and promised to teach Xiang Shaolong well and strive to train him into his own successor.

After seeing Lian Po away, Xiang Shaolong looked bitter: "Brother, I don't want to join the army! Can I be an instructor for the children at home?"

"What do you think?" Zuo Xiaoyou glanced at him.

"I think teaching these children is more important." Xiang Shaolong said seriously.

"Haha." Zuo Xiaoyou smiled and said, "Second brother, if I really want to usurp the throne in the future, what can I do without your support in the army? Do you want to see your elder brother die with your own eyes?"

Xiang Shaolong collapsed: "I'll go, can't I go?"

"This is my good second brother." Zuo Xiaoyou laughed and said, "Don't be depressed. There are a bunch of maids in the house, choose a few of them you like!"

Xiang Shaolong shook his head: "Forget it, the color is a scraper knife. It's enough to have Shu'er and **. I can't handle it no matter how many."

"What should they do if their aunt comes?" Zuo Xiaoyou smiled.

Xiang Shaolong rolled his eyes: "Healing vitality."

Zuo Xiaoyou chuckled and said, "Second brother, tell you a serious matter. Can you make a gun?"

"Make a gun?" Xiang Shaolong said: "Brother, it's not easy to make a gun. Now there is no lathe, so it's hard to control the accuracy. If you find those blacksmiths with superb skills, it might be able to build it, but the size may not be appropriate. If you don't have enough precision, it will explode. If you don't collapse the enemy, but instead collapse your own hands, it will be a waste."

"Oh!" Zuo Xiaoyou said helplessly: "It seems that we can only develop industry and commerce first."

"It must develop." Xiang Shaolong said: "If you want to be rich, build roads first. But building roads requires money, everything requires money. Brother, can you make glasses or something?"

Zuo Xiaoyou thought to himself: "It seems like I have seen how to make glass before."

"Then make something." Xiang Shaolong smiled and said, "The worthless glass ball is now a priceless treasure. If you make some cups, bottles, bowls and jars, you can sell them to other six countries. If you make money, you will build bridges and pave the way in Zhao State, do business, gather wealth in the world and then do our own business. If we can unite with other princes and nobles to do business, it will be no difficulty to push King Zhao down from the throne. Sima Yan can replace Wei with Jin, so can you."

Zuo Xiaoyou looked at him: "Good, I've grown up."

"I'm idle every day, and I'll think about it." Xiang Shaolong smiled and said, "Brother, do you really want to replace Qin Shihuang?"

"I have this idea." Zuo Xiaoyou said: "If you don't demolish the Great Wall, you are not a hero. I will not allow the backbone of the land of China to defend against foreign enemies. I want to be an emperor who invades fire!"

Zuo Xiaoyou said it very lightly and lightly, but Xiang Shaolong took a deep breath and raised his hand: "Since that's the case, I can only do my best to be your auxiliary general."

Zuo Xiaoyou raised his hand and slapped Xiang Shaolong's hand heavily.

...

Before he knew it, three years passed. In the first three years of visiting the Qin world, Zuo Xiaoyou chose to lie dormant. In addition to promoting various high-yield crops to the entire Zhao State, he also made various glassware, dressing mirrors that could reveal people's illumination, as well as very comfortable tables, chairs and furniture, as well as a fire kang that made a winter artifact.

In addition, Zuo Xiaoyou trained a group of field doctors, allowing them to master some battlefield first aid methods and try their best to avoid the mortality rate of soldiers after being injured. Xiang Shaolong joined the army, because of his brave combat and strategic thinking and tactical awareness that transcends the times, which made Lian Po and the major generals in the army appreciate it very much. He was promoted seven or eight times in three years. He has now become the top five general in Zhao** and is known as Lian Po's successor.

With the assistance of Yuanzong and the Mohist Guild, Zuo Xiaoyou improved papermaking technology and created various papers that could be written. Once promoted, he became famous all over the world and became a saint praised by the world, known as Zuozi and Zuo Sheng.

With the emergence of paper and the spread of "The Hundred Schools of Thoughts and the Way of Governance" written by Zuo Xiaoyou himself, Zuo Xiaoyou's book was named God, which attracted talents from all over the country to gather in Zhao and come to pilgrimage. Among them, there are Ji Yanran who Zuo Xiaoyou was thinking about day and night, even widow Qing, and Feng Fei, one of the three famous poets.

Ji Yanran and Widow Qing were both attracted by Zuo Xiaoyou's talent, and couldn't help but run over to ask Zuo Xiaoyou for advice. Feng Fei wanted to use the name of Zuo Xiaoyou, the saint, to perform singing and dancing to make her name famous.

But since these three women met Zuo Xiaoyou, they were attracted by Zuo Xiaoyou's talent and civil and military skills. They fell into it and did not come out. In less than three months, they were captured by Zuo Xiaoyou and became Zuo Xiaoyou's wife and concubine.
