Nine hundred and thirtieth fifth attack

The right weather finally arrived on the fifth day after the storm began.

It was a strong wind of level 6 that day, with a wave height of 8 meters. Such winds and waves are actually not suitable for attacking with wooden boats... But Rommel learned from previous reconnaissance that the winds and waves in the depressions were much lower than the actual winds and waves on the sea.

This is mainly because the sea water on the depression is actually separated from the outer sea. On the other hand, there are high grounds around the depression to block the wind. So although there are strong winds outside, the wind and waves in the depression are about level 4.

The only thing that is the only drawback is that it is still raining heavily in the sky to enable low visibility.

But Rommel thought, isn't this an opportunity? If visibility is high, it's impossible for the German tanks to be discovered by the enemy and all of them were blown up in the depression.

So Rommel made a quick decision and ordered an attack immediately.

The sound of cannons soon rang over Normandy, and shells burst into smoke in the US defense line. The smoke further reduced visibility, and the sound of cannons also covered the sound of motors when the tanks advanced.

The deafening sound of cannons and thunder mixed together made the US military officers and soldiers who were already hiding from the rain in a mess in the storm complain.

"What are those German guys doing?" Smith, commander of the US First Infantry Division, shouted in dissatisfaction: "Are they going to attack?"

"I think yes, general!" The staff officer holding the microphone replied: "Col. Will, who is on the front line, reported that he had found some movement in the direction of the enemy!"

"Damn!" Smith spat: "Can't they choose a good day?"

Smith would complain like this for his reason, in this weather, neither US warships nor fighter jets could work.

Of course, this is not Smith's main reason. Like all American officers and soldiers, Smith believed that the Germans could not successfully break through the defense line under such a big storm and the US military had a "moat"... So it was not a problem without the cover of warships and fighter jets. They believed that only machine guns and mortars could be used to defeat the German attack.

The reason why he doesn't like fighting in this kind of weather is very simple: it's because this kind of weather makes people not want to fight!

"Fuck the German guy!" Smith cursed: "Don't they know we haven't had it in a few days!"

After pausing, Smith asked again: "What are they attacking? Are they wooden boats?"

"It seems yes, general!" the staff officer replied: "But it's not sure, because I can't see clearly!"

"Don't doubt it!" Smith said: "What else do they have except the wooden boat? Let the soldiers prepare machine guns and teach them a lesson!"

There was a burst of laughter from the command center, and they were all incredible about the stupidity of the Germans.

A staff officer said: "They must have thought that attacking in this weather would avoid our planes and warships, but they will soon find that our machine guns are not easy to mess with!"

The US soldiers also thought that the only thing the Germans could come to was wooden boats, so they set up machine guns in front of the defense line. Because they were worried that the enemy's wooden boats might have been equipped with protective steel plates, the US soldiers also transferred several erratic combustible companies.

The combustion company started firing the cannon as soon as it came up, regardless of whether it saw the target or not.

In fact, these mortar shells still played some role, because many German soldiers were already on the water, riding on wooden boat cats and moving forward. Mortar shells exploded in rows among them, and immediately bursts of waves and shrapnel hit the wooden boat, which was already struggling to maintain stability in the wind and waves, and some shells happened to hit the wooden boat directly, and instantly blew the entire wooden boat into pieces.

But these are all situations that Rommel had estimated in advance. Rommel's real killer weapon...the diving tanks were already slowly advancing like ghosts under the sea in the depression. They were like entering another world. The sound of cannons, gunshots, and screams on the water had nothing to do with them.

In fact, tank crews can't see anything in the diving tank, and they can only determine whether they are in a straight line based on the simple gyroscope that is temporarily installed.

This is why each of them wears life jackets. Once they find that the situation is not good... For example, if the tank is trapped at the bottom of the water or encounters an obstacle and cannot bypass it in time, then they can only abandon the tank and save themselves.

The US military knew nothing about this, and they even planned to put the Germans closer and then attack them.

In addition to their excessive confidence, there is another point that the storm blocked the logistics supply line, and the storm did not know when it would end, so the US military had to use limited supplies to defend Normandy under uncertain length, which required them to save ammunition.

The key point of saving ammunition is to "eliminate an enemy with every bullet", so the US military officers in various parts chose the tactic of "putting closer and then fighting".

This tactic proved to be wrong because it gave more German troops a chance to survive to get ashore.

"What sound?" Colonel Will, who was commanding on the front line, suddenly felt something was wrong.

"It's thunder!" the adjutant replied: "Or it's just the sound of cannons!"

"No, no!" Colonel Will lay on the ground and listened, and then said, "Why do I think it's the sound of a tank's track!"

Colonel Will has rich combat experience. He fought the Guadalcanal Island Battle as the First Land Division on the Pacific battlefield. Not long ago, he was fighting with the Japanese in the Philippines... Because the First Infantry Division needed to conduct Normandy landing for amphibious operations, he was transferred from the Pacific.

The adjutant couldn't help laughing when he heard this: "Sir, you are frightened by the German tank!"

Colonel Will listened for a while, then shook his head and said, "No, I'm sure it was the sound of the tank's tracks, although I don't know how they did it! Damn it, get the bazooka and the anti-tank gun ready!"

But it was too late at this time, and only the "rumble" sound became louder and louder. Then with a "wow", a huge "Tiger" tank appeared in front of the US soldiers. He was steaming, and the raindrops hit the tank's steel plates and were "bang" and were not unexpectedly smashed to pieces.

The American soldiers all looked at the giant creature in front of them in amazement. They didn't know how this thing came out of the water...

While the soldiers were stunned, the thick and long gun barrel of the "Tiger Style" turned to the side, and then a "boom" sounded, and a single shot shot blew a US machine gun into the sky.

Only then did the US military react and searched for cover and bazooka.
