064, Pythagoras

Humbert interrupted, "Master, do you still want to listen to his quibbling? Punish this slave who violates the law quickly. This is to safeguard the dignity of his master. Otherwise, more and more slaves will imitate him and not take you as a master seriously."

Before Sio could speak, Amon looked up and scolded, "Shut up and listen to Aesop finish the story!" There was a strange majestic force in his voice that rushed into his mind, causing Humbert to almost stand firm, as if he was suppressed and could not speak anymore. And Aesop began to tell the story of Pythagoras-

Pythagoras was a mysterious sage. He was the son of a great nobleman. He was very rich, but he led his disciples to establish a group and lived a collective life of asceticism. He was also a very skilled doctor and was said to be a great magician. Some people even said that he had seen gods and was familiar with the secrets of gods.

Once, Pythagoras went out to buy the group's daily necessities. Due to the huge number, he paid a divine stone at one time. When he opened the purse, he accidentally dropped the divine stone on the ground. A slave next to him picked it up. At that time, the owner of the shop was also shouting loudly: "Pythagoras, look at your slave. His hand touched the divine stone, and a finger should be cut off! I have a knife here and I can lend it to you."

Pythagoras replied lightly: "According to the decree, he should have his finger cut off, but also according to the decree, he is my property and has no dispute with others. Can I decide when to cut off his finger? Have you not seen that I have already recorded it?"

店铺老板大声道:“可是一个人怎么会有十三根手指,他只有十根手指,而你已经记录到十三根了.”

Pythagoras sneered, "Ignorous and cruel person, you are actually greedy for the tyranny of others. This greed and violence blinds true knowledge. From a mathematical point of view, there is nothing wrong with this. He has ten fingers, cut off thirteen, and left three negative ones. This is just a negative number... If you don't understand, Copernicus, please explain."

Copernicus explained: "This shopkeeper, if you have ten gold coins but buy thirteen gold coins, how many gold coins do you have left? Not only has one, but from a mathematical point of view, it is three. Do you understand?"

Aesop's story ends here, and the last sentence is: "Do you understand?" I don't know if others have understood it, but Amen understands it anyway, and can't help but smile. Shio blinked and thought for a long time, then suddenly realized: "Remember, Aesop owes a finger, I can decide when to cut it!"

At the same time, according to the provisions of the two laws, this is just a simple avoidance technique for the master to let the slave go, but the first person to think of it is a genius, and the one who follows the example is Sio. Aesop saluted: "Thank you for your kindness. Aesop is your property. Your fingers are on Aesop, and he is also the master."

The shopkeeper's face was a little dark, and he wanted to refute but couldn't say anything. Amon had already received the reward. Sio had dealt with the aftermath and was about to return to Meng Feisi. The two broke up here and said goodbye. When they left, Amon saw Aesop taking a car outside, walked over and greeted him alone, thanking him for accompanying him to travel to the city for the past two days. Finally, he asked: "Aesop, the story you just told claims to be an early experience. Have you really seen that sage Pythagoras in the distance?"

Aesop nodded respectfully and said, "Yes, I have really seen it. At that time, I was still very young and was not a slave to Master Sio."

Amon: "You said that Pythagoras had seen gods and even knew the secrets of gods. Is this true?"

Aesop quickly explained: "How can I know these? They are just legends from people. The sage is very mysterious, and there are many people following them. Some people say that he is the son of a god, but the legend is just a legend."

Amon said oh and asked with interest: "So where is this person now?"

Aesop pointed north with his hand: "From here to the seaside, cross the ocean and go north, and then see the coast and walk westward. There is a peninsula surrounded by archipelago, with many city-states called Heaton United Kingdom. The last time I heard from Pythagoras, he led his disciples to build a secluded manor in the outskirts of Croton's city-state, called Pythagoras Manor."

Amon remembered this place in his heart. If he had the opportunity to travel far in the future, he could go there and try to ask Pythagoras for advice. I remember that Aristotle, who had saved himself in Duke, also came from the Kingdom of Heaton, and that place was really worth a trip.

He said thank you to Aesop. Aesop asked back, "My benefactor, I'm just asking me one thing, why do you say thank you?"

Amon: "Because the news you said might be very useful to me."

Aesop said curiously: "Are you interested in the secrets of the gods? If this is the case, I have a suggestion."

Amon was a little surprised: "Oh, what advice do you have?"

Aesop pointed to the spire of the temple in the distance and said, "These are all illusory legends, including the gods themselves, and since that's the case, you might as well ask the gods themselves. If they really appear in the human world... In the legend, the gods will also walk in the human world in various identities, and will even stand in front of you and talk to you."

Amon smiled and suddenly remembered Yin Nanna, the shepherd slave who was transformed into Mu Yun, and he smiled and said to Iso: "Thank you for your suggestions, I will consider it."

Aesop bowed deeply and said, "You saved my life. You just gave me the opportunity to speak out. I haven't expressed my gratitude yet. Why do you say thank you to me again?"

Amon: "The first time I saw you, you shouted at me in the carriage, reminding me to hide quickly. If I were just an ordinary passerby, your shout would save my life. In that case, it was not me who saved you but you who saved me. When your life was at stake, you did not forget to save the life of an innocent passerby, so I want to say thank you!... Aesop, can I ask you another question? What is your greatest wish in your heart?"

Aesop answered two words seriously: "Freedom."

Amon: "Freedom, do you want to get rid of your slave status?"

Aesop: "It's not exactly the case. Although I am a slave, when I look up at the starry sky, my heart can fly freely with wings... The body is not affected by things, the heart is not bound by desire, and transcends existence. It is the freedom I yearn for."

Unexpectedly, a slave would say such words. Amon was slightly surprised and smiled and said, "I am afraid that only gods can understand the freedom you are talking about. I want to say thank you again!... Aesop, take good care of yourself, maybe one day you will reach the other side of freedom."

Amon originally wanted to buy this slave, and maybe he could try to give him the identity of a free citizen, but on the one hand, Sio may not be willing to sell it. On the other hand, he was indeed inconvenient to walk with a slave, so he had to temporarily give up his thoughts and talk about it later.

After saying goodbye, Amon went back to the inn to pack his things, went straight to the mansion of Rhode Dick in the east of the city, and came to the luxurious lord's mansion to say to the gatekeeper with his chest raised and head held high, "I am from afar, and I have something important to ask for Lord Rhode Dick."

Four men who looked like gatekeepers stood in front of the mansion, and there were six guards in sharp clothes and armor next to them. Amon didn't know who to look for, so he asked the person closest to him. The man lowered his head and glanced at Amon: "If you have any questions, you can go to the city-state offices to apply for processing. Don't stay here at will. If you have any trouble, come and see the city lord. Will you do anything else?"

This is the truth. If you have any questions, you can find any place to do it. If you come directly to meet Rhode Dick, the city lord may be busy to death even if he is not annoyed. Amon explained politely: "My business is both a business and a private matter. The city-state departments may not be able to handle it. You must meet the city lord Dick himself. It is very important, so I'll inform you."

The other three gatekeepers also came over and said, "Do you understand the rules? Can you meet the city lord just by saying that you can see it? Lord Dick is not at home! Even if you are at home, you must inform the gatekeeper to let you wait before you can wait. If you really have something important, we dare not delay. Please explain it clearly and take out the evidence."

Another man whispered: "We can ask you to wait outside the door. When the adults return home, let the second butler in the doorman inform you. If the adults are willing to see you, they will be called in... But if a trivial matter harasses the adults to rest, and when the adults get angry, we will be scolded. We must be comforted and worked hard, right?"

Amon did not ask for a big shot like Rod Dick, of course, it was not something that people could see when they wanted to see. If they were distinguished guests, they would usually be invited to the special living room to rest first, and then they would be welcomed by Dick. Ordinary strangers came to visit, and if they had something to do, they had to wait outside the door and let the doorman report. If there was nothing to disturb the adult's rest, the doorman would be scolded, so the man hinted that Amon gave him some bribes so that they could be able to be compatible.

I don’t know if Amon understood it. After saying this, the man was about to reach out, but he found that Amon had turned around and left. He couldn’t help but curse behind him: “Where did the wild boy come from? Run to the city lord’s door to make trouble and find happiness!”

It was not that Amon was reluctant to bribe the gatekeeper, but that the experience in front of the gate made him change his mind. The mansion was deep and the consequences were unpredictable once he walked in. He was not sure whether Rhodes Dick was trustworthy. Nero's relics were quite precious. If the city lord had any other thoughts, wouldn't it be troublesome to detain him and the people and things on the spot?

It wasn't that I had never suffered such a loss before. Amon could deal with it several accidents, but in Rhode Dick's mansion, he could not get out of it with his ability.

Amon turned to the Temple of Horus in the center of the city-state. He had already found out these days that Rhode Dick, as the main priest of the Cape City-state, will preside over the activities of offering sacrifices to the gods every month. Citizens in the city-state can visit and worship outside the temple hall, and today it happened to be the case. He originally wanted to wait for Rhode Dick to go home outside the mansion, but now he plans to go directly to the Temple Square and take out Nero's staff in public.

When Amon arrived in the square, the sacrifice activity had ended. Several priests stood on the steps, and a tide of people were walking out of the spacious and tall stone pillars in front of the temple gate. Rhode Dick took his entourage to the carriage, and there was a guard of honor in front of him. The crowd automatically retreated to make way for the city lord. He was already planning to return home.

At this moment, a voice shouted: "Mr. Rhode Dick, based on the last words of Lord Nero, the former chief priest of the cape city-state, I came to return the staff and relics of the great magician Nero!"

The sound was very loud, and even the priests standing on the higher ranks heard it. Everyone was shocked and looked curiously in the direction where the sound came. Someone asked the onlookers around him in a low voice: "Who is Nero?"

Someone explained: "Nero was the main priest of the city-state more than 30 years ago, a great magician, who was said to have sacrificed his life for the country... What's going on? After so many years, someone actually sent back Lord Nero's staff!"

Before Lord Rhode Dick's guard, there was a young man standing in the place where the crowd was separated, holding a staff in his hand. He was the one who had just called. Someone stopped the convoy and raised the staff. The warriors who were guarding them all drew their weapons and guarded them. If it weren't for the words Amon had just shouted, the guard would have taken him down at this time.

Rod Dick's carriage stopped, and he walked down, and there were two people around him, both of whom Amon had seen, including the clerk Fayol Judah and his aide Aristotle Amon, when he saw Rod Dick coming out, he bowed one knee with his knees, raised his staff high above his head with both hands and made a gesture of promotion. The guards were relieved.

The crowd separated and formed a circular clearing, surrounding Rhode Dick's convoy and Amon in the middle. Several temple priests on the higher level rushed over.

Aristotle felt familiar when he saw Amon at first sight, but he couldn't remember where he had seen him. It was not because of this young sage who had a bad memory. Amon's appearance has changed too much in the past two years. His facial features still have the shadow of his original appearance, but he has grown up completely.

Rhodes Dick was about to walk over and ask in detail, but Fayol Judah pulled him and said, "Be careful, sir, find out the situation first. What if it is an assassin?"

Aristotle took the hem of his robe and walked to Amon with a separate guard, and asked with a smile: "Young man, what's wrong with you stopping the lord's convoy to hold up the staff in front of the city lord's convoy?"

Amon replied loudly: "I have already said that according to the last words of Nero, the former chief priest of the city state, I will return his staff and relics. It is said that there are information left by Lord Nero in this staff. Please check it out!"

Aristotle reached out and took the staff, and asked again, "What's your name? How did you get the relics of Lord Nero?"

Amon: "I am a hunter in the mountains, named Amon. When I was chasing my prey, I found the handwriting written in the cave. It was left by the former priest of the Cape City State, the great master of the Great Master Nero. He hoped that someone could discover his relics and send them back to the Cape City State, return the staff to the temple, return the relics to the family, and promised a reward. I traveled thousands of miles across the mountains and deserts to fulfill the deceased's last wish!"

"Amon? Your name is Amon?" Aristotle was slightly stunned, as if he had remembered something, but without saying much, he turned around and walked back with his staff.

Several temple priests had already run down the long steps to Rod Dick's side. An older priest looked at the staff in Aristotle's hand, and his excited voice trembled: "This, this, this is really the staff of the priest of the headland city-state! Thirty years ago, Lord Nero took it away and never returned. He really didn't expect to see him again!"

This staff is made of yellow-brown wood as the handle, with a very strong and durable texture, with no sign of decay at all. The top is inlaid with a earth pupil, and I don’t know what technique it was made. This earth pupil is like growing naturally in the wood grain, revealing only a few sharp corners.

The crowd onlookers could see clearly that as long as they had seen it, they could recognize it at a glance that it was indeed the staff that Nero had used. The foreigner who had traveled thousands of miles away did not lie. After taking the staff, Rhode Dick couldn't help but tremble with excitement. This staff was a property of the temple of the cape city-state, and only the previous priests were qualified to hold it.

After Nero disappeared, the staff was also lost. The next main priest was Rhode Dick's father, Old Dick. A few years ago, Rhode Dick succeeded the main priest. Although he found another skilled craftsman to create a staff, it was of course not as precious as the staff passed down from generation to generation. I never expected that it would come back today. Could it be a gift from the gods?

It was sent back to the cape city-state by a foreigner from all over the world. Rhode Dick took it with him in front of the crowd. Its symbolic significance is extremely important in front of the temple!

Rhode Dick has been in the officialdom for a long time and reacts very quickly. After taking the staff, he then raised his hands above his head, turned around and knelt down in the direction of the temple and said, "Thank you Horus! Thank you for the great gods! Under your guidance, the staff of the master priests of all generations have returned to the city-state!"

As soon as the city lord knelt down, everyone turned around and knelt down. For a moment, there was no one standing in the huge square. People were thanking the gods, and the voices of thousands of people were combined like tsunamis. Seeing this scene, Amon knew that he had done it right, and handing over the staff in public on such occasions was the best choice.
