Chapter 25 The chief of staff is crazy

In the Hexi Canyon, the bright moon hangs high.

Under the faint moonlight, a group of four or five hundred defeated soldiers were fleeing west along the Tongtian River beach. The defeated soldiers were unkempt, dressed in rags, without armor, and unarmed. If it weren't for the Mingyue Battle Jacket, no one would have believed that they were soldiers of the Mingyue Empire Army.

These four or five hundred defeated soldiers were indeed soldiers of the Mingyue Empire, and they were once the most elite heavy infantry, but now they look more like mobs than light infantry.

The story starts from that night two days ago.

That night, the evil clouds bully the moon, and the fire candles were gone. In the endless darkness, the damn hungry wolves began to raid the camp endlessly, hunting them in various ways that they had never heard of and never seen. They tried every means to fight back, but they could not resist them at all. The hungry wolves would always suddenly come out of the darkness and bite them hard. When they reacted and tried to fight back, the other party had already disappeared...

It was an asymmetrical contest, there was no fight, only massacre!

The heavy infantry who once looked down on the battlefield became dogs and sheep at the slaughter of others!

As time passed, more and more people died, and cold fear spread endlessly in the camp. When dawn was approaching, the army finally collapsed and was completely destroyed by the group of evil wolves. They threw down all their baggage, threw away all their equipment, and even the armor and weapons in their hands...

But the group of hungry wolves remained unyielding and continued to follow and chase after them all the way here!

The hungry wolves seemed to have no need to eat, sleep, or rest. They just wanted to kill, endless killing!

The backward imperial army died under the butcher knife of the hungry wolf. The number of people decreased sharply from the initial 4,000 people. Two days later, the more than 4,000 Mingyue Imperial Army that fled were only four or five hundred defeated soldiers. The rest were either killed or ran away in the Grand Canyon.

It is almost the western end of the Hexi Canyon. You can step onto the border of the Mingyue Empire dozens of miles ahead, but the defeated soldiers of the 400 or 500 are really unable to run. They are tired and hungry, cold and sleepy. They need rest too much and want to lie down and have a good sleep.

"I won't run away, I have to take a break."

A defeated soldier sat on the river beach and cursed, "His grandma, just die."

Someone took the lead, and the other defeated soldiers followed suit. In less than a moment, all the defeated soldiers lay down. They were so tired that they felt somewhat lucky. This place was close to the border of the Mingyue Empire, and the group of hungry wolves might not chase after them.

However, soon, the cruelty of reality tear apart their last fantasies.

The endless sound of horns sounded again from the night sky, and the defeated soldiers turned back in horror. A faint black shadow was sweeping along the desolate river beach like a tide. Under the cold moonlight, they could even clearly see that the sharp sword reflected a heart-pounding cold glow under the moonlight...

The defeated soldiers were panicked. They wanted to get up and continue to run for their lives, but their numb bodies were as heavy as lead. It was easy to lie down, but it was difficult to get up again!

"I really can't stand it!"

The spirit of a defeated soldier finally collapsed and knocked his head against the sharp stone beside him, and his brain suddenly burst and died.

"I can't stand it either!"

"I've had enough, too!"

Two more defeated soldiers could not stand the double torture of their spirit and physicality, and jumped into the cold Tongtian River with all their might. With just two puffs, their figures were lost on the river surface.

“Woo woo woo woo…”

The remaining defeated soldiers looked at each other sadly. While they were closing their eyes and waiting for death, a more distant sound of horns suddenly came from the direction of the Mingyue Empire. The distant sound of horns had just sounded, and the pursuers swept along the river beach suddenly stopped, and then quickly retreated like a tide. In less than a moment, they disappeared from the night sky cleanly!

After a meal, the defeated soldiers felt the ground under their feet begin to tremble gently, and then the trembling of the ground became more and more violent. Finally, countless black shadows suddenly appeared from the wilderness to the west. Under the cold moonlight, the defeated soldiers clearly saw the moving horse heads, churning iron hooves, and cold rays that slashed the horse.

"cavalry!"

"It's our cavalry!"

At this moment, the defeated soldiers cried with joy. They were alive, and they finally survived!

Kawahara City, Situ Rui's Headquarters.

More than a dozen huge tree-shaped lamps were hung on the surrounding walls, illuminating the spacious hall as bright as day. Under the light, Situ Rui was frowning and pondering, and a huge map of the glorious empire was spread on the table in front of him.

The rapid footsteps suddenly sounded behind him. Situ Rui turned around when he heard the sound and saw the chief of staff Du Yuzheng coming quickly.

"Governor General, there is news about the Third Division."

Du Yu's tone was a little solemn, and the expression on his face was not very good. Situ Rui's eyebrows couldn't help but swell. It was obvious that this news could not be any good news.

Sure enough, Du Yu continued: "The patrol cavalry brigade was receiving a team of defeated soldiers twenty miles in the Grand Canyon. According to the dictation of the defeated soldiers, a team of Glory Imperial Army was chasing them. Just before the cavalry brigade appeared, the team of Glory Imperial Army suddenly retreated. Now the cavalry brigade has gone to pursue, so there must be news soon..."

"Which team of defeated soldiers is from the Third Division? Tuoba Tao's soldiers?" Situ Rui's brows frowned and asked in a deep voice, "What's going on?"

Du Yu sorted out his words and said cautiously: "I asked roughly about the question and got some news initially, but it is still difficult to distinguish the authenticity."

Situ Rui turned around with his hands on his back and said coldly: "Tell me!"

"yes."

Du Yu responded and said, "According to the soldiers who fled back, General Tuoba brought the 20,000 troops to attack Hexi Fortress have... been destroyed."

Speaking of this, Du Yu paused for a moment and looked up at Situ Rui with some concern. Seeing that Situ Rui did not react particularly fiercely, he plucked up his courage and continued: "In addition, General Tuoba is missing, the whereabouts of the heavy infantry captain Xiao Tian is missing, and the chief of staff... is mentally ill!"

"Bang!"

Situ Rui, who stood with his hands behind his back, suddenly kicked the incense burner in front of him to the ground.

The guards guarding outside the hall heard the sound and thought there was something unexpected inside. They immediately rushed in, but Situ Rui cursed: "Who told you to come in? Go out, get out!"
