Chapter 31 Dinner
Tonight, the Visa Hotel has become the most lively place in New York. If no aliens arrive tonight and the super criminals demolish a few streets and other exaggerated events, then tonight's dinner will probably be tomorrow's headlines.
The road ahead of the hotel gate is full of expensive luxury cars, which is like a high-end auto show. Celebrities from all walks of life in New York gather here, and even some rare big names in the upper class attended.
With such a great face, the one who hosted the dinner was Tony Stark, who was so famous. As a rich second generation, he survived from a group of bandits not long ago, and then immediately made a big news - announcing that Stark Industry, a weapon company that has been committed to weapon development for a century, no longer produces weapons. Before the public opinion could digest this explosive news, he followed even more explosively - he admitted that he had developed a high-tech battle suit and had changed his appearance into a generation of superhero Iron Man.
The two bombshells in the press made the name Tony Stark overwhelmed all the other rich second generations for a whole year, and it seemed that it would last longer. And thanks to the emergence of Iron Man technology, Stark himself began to be involved in politics more and more, which is one of the reasons why his banquet has such a great influence.
"It's really worthy of its reputation, Stark." Eric stood in front of the brightly lit hotel and sighed.
He received the invitation letter this morning. Anyway, the school has been closed these two days, so since they have invited me to meet the legendary Iron Man so well (of course it won’t be just to have a meal).
In theory, he needed a formal outfit before attending such a banquet, and perhaps a dress up. But now, he is only wearing an ordinary black windbreaker, and his leather shoes are more like street stalls at night markets. Even if he is wearing a purely handmade suit in the UK, it is not more conspicuous.
Someone had no idea at all, so he arrogantly showed the invitation to the guard and swaggered into the door, heading straight for food and drinks, just like he was a diner.
But it seems that there is nothing wrong with it. He came to eat for free. It was the first time he attended such a large banquet as a guest without restraint. Of course, he did not forget that the main owner had a purpose in coming to him, but before the other party appeared, he seemed to have nothing to do except eat.
In addition, another reason for not wearing a suit is that you can't carry your armor on your back when wearing that thing.
As expected, after a moment, people came to me on their own initiative.
“Eric Charlotte?”
Eric, who was dealing with a piece of cheesecake, turned his head and finally met the legendary Tony Stark, who was following two business partners, holding a goblet half full of red wine.
"I've wanted to see you for a long time. I wanted to visit your house, but because my schedule has been too full these days, I had to invite you to chat at the banquet." Tony said, shaking the cup in his hand, "Come on?"
"No, thank you, I'm not yet at the age of drinking."
Tony shrugged: "Sometimes the rules are used to break, otherwise you can't move forward... And where did your clothes come from? Did you buy them online?"
"Forget it." Eric got the last bite of cake, "but whatever you wear is perfect for me."
Tony couldn't help laughing and said to the people around him: "I like this kid."
He drank the red wine in one sip and whispered to Eric: "Go to the balcony and wait for me for a while. I think we have a lot of topics to talk about. Five minutes, I will get rid of these people and go to you immediately."
As it turns out, the rich second generation's concept of time seems to be very weak. Eric drank the northwest wind on the balcony for twenty minutes before Stark appeared.
"Sorry, sorry, those girls are so enthusiastic." Tony leaned against the pillar and said, "Then let's get to the point. Let's confirm first, do you know why I met you right? Did you make it yourself?"
Eric knew that he was referring to the Armodor armor. He had expected that what Tony wanted to ask before he arrived for the banquet.
"No, my dad made it...or at least it looks like that."
"Oh? Then he is such a genius. I found out that he works for the government department..."
"If you didn't mention how he is doing in your weird resume, then I might be able to answer - he is dead."
"Ah, I'm sorry."
"If you want to ask the origin of my armor, or design drawings or something, you may be disappointed - I know almost nothing about it." Eric spread his hands and said, "Look, I don't know where my dad made this thing for, and I don't know why he gave it to me. One day I was suddenly attacked by a bunch of madmen, and then I don't know who gave it to me, and then my life changed drastically...and maybe it became what it should have been, and I can't tell it."
Tony listened quietly and nodded deeply: "I think I can understand you. My life has also changed completely not long ago, but the good part is at least I voluntarily changed."
After a pause, he said, "Now, I think I can give you a chance."
"Is the opportunity? Is it like applying for a job?"
"A little like," Tony said, "Believe me, ability is a burden for people who can't afford it. And now you can choose to give it to me, and then you can let it go, finish your school like other kids, find a job, and find a girl you like to start a family and start a career."
"So... do you want my armor?"
"What? No, I just...well, yes." Tony admitted with some frustration, "Yes, I had been smugly thinking that Iron Man is the best single-soldier combat system on Earth, and now it's not. I've analyzed your battles several times, studied the performance of that armor, and they... are indeed better than my armor for the time being."
Although he particularly emphasized the word "temporary", Eric saw that it was not easy for Stark to admit it.
He smiled slightly: "Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Stark. But if I was my father's intention to give me this armor, I can't..."
He had only had time to say this.
Because at this moment, two rocket warheads dragged the thick tail flames and shot through the wall and rushed into the hall.
The strong impact cut off the load-bearing column of the hall in half, the crystal chandeliers extinguished in an instant, and the flames quickly occupied the hall. Eric watched Stark with his own eyes like a leaf blown by the scorching wind, and then he was pulled out by irresistible force, his body as light as a feather.
