Chapter Nineteen Truth and Lies
When he just discovered that he had traveled to the American comic world, Eric secretly thought that if there was something on earth that could not be visited the most, then the ASCHS air carrier must have ranked very low.
Because once you get the opportunity to get up, it will probably mean that you will never be destined to be "ordinary" in your life.
But fate is really interesting. If it determines what your future will be in the beginning, it seems that no matter how long you play hide-and-seek with it, you will eventually return to the starting point and have to obey its arrangements. Eric intends to avoid the trouble, but now the trouble comes to the door. Now he still boards this science fiction mothership.
I have to say that this thing is indeed quite spectacular. The aircraft carrier with the ability to combat three-average air and sea, land and air, is equipped with countless giant cannons, tanks and Kun-style fighter jets on its vast deck, which is simply a mobile arsenal. In terms of technology, the technological power of this world is indeed far from the eight major roads in the world before Eric was reborn.
"Director Fury is waiting here." Sharon Carter led Eric in the well-connected corridor for many turns and finally stopped in front of a composite metal door, "I'll take you here."
Eric nodded: "Thank you."
The automatic door slid open in front of him as if he had recognized him. After he stepped inside, it closed and made a "drip" locking sound.
Nick Fury sat behind the only transparent table in the room, his image was no different from that in Eric's memory. He was wearing a pitch-black windbreaker, bald head, and incandescent light reflected on his black head. He covered his left eye with a black eye mask, and his right eye was left with sharp eyes, just like a sophisticated scanner, making people feel as if his soul was exposed nakedly in front of him.
"So what should I call you? One-Eyed Man?" Eric asked, despite the fact that he knew Nick Fury.
"My name is Nick Fury, the person in charge here." Fury glanced at the seat at the table with his eyes, "Sit down, kid, just be casual."
Eric pulled a seat and sat down.
"First of all, I have to thank you. You subdued Zora, saved us a lot of trouble, reduced a lot of losses, and saved many people who might have died, although Zora's own body has not been found yet."
Although he said thank you, his tone of no emotion has almost never changed since he spoke.
"I know you have a lot of questions right now," Fury said. "But you may be disappointed - maybe I don't know as much as you think, and we have very limited information. I can share what we know, but before that you have to answer - how did you understand the existence of ASCHELL?"
Eric shrugged: "Through my parents, how else would you know? They thought I wouldn't remember before I was three, but in fact I started to remember much earlier than an average child. They mentioned it before me."
He lied. His parents had never asked about work-related matters in front of him, but he felt that lying was better than saying "I saw it from the comics."
Fury was silent for a moment, as if trying to see through his eyes the truth and the falsehood, but unfortunately he found that the boy's eyes were as deep as well as water, and he could not see anything clearly.
"That's good." Fury's statement was meaningful, but he didn't seem to be pursuing it for the time being, and he turned to it, "Then as you know, your parents were researchers of ASCHEN. In the past, they were responsible for the project of "No Soldiers" to create robot soldiers who could be remotely controlled so that the days when soldiers risked their lives on the battlefield would become history."
"But your father - forgive me to say this - is a very ambitious man, even a little hard to control." Fury seemed to recall something, frowned slightly, "I rejected him several times of dangerous attempts. I think that maybe that was the fuse. One day fifteen years ago, someone else threw an olive branch to him."
"Hydra?" Eric asked, "I heard that the guy named Zora who was just settled was a Hydra. He told me that it was because of the armor system developed by my father that Zora's research was no longer valued."
"We thought so a while ago, but now we find that it doesn't seem that simple. Not only Hydra, but more unknown organizations are involved. We still don't understand what their relationship is." Fury said, "But one thing we are sure of. That is, Dr. Charlotte was personally responsible for the development of the 'Asmodra System' - the armor you hold now. Perhaps he entrusted someone to hand over the armor to you, and I believe he must hope you can use it to make a difference."
"But how can you know what he means to give this to me? There are many possibilities..."
"Because the armor is designed for you, Eric." Fury interrupted him, saying seriously, "It contains all kinds of data about you, binds your genes, and no one can drive it except you. This is a program written when it was designed, and now even Dr. Charlotte himself cannot change it."
Eric was stunned.
"Your father loves you, Eric." Fury said, "He entrusted this to you because he believed in you and he knew you would make the right choice...I'm sorry, kid."
Eric understood something from his face, and his face couldn't help but sank: "He's dead... right?"
Fury looked at him without saying anything, but his face clearly had a positive answer.
Eric was silent for a while and said, "When did it happen?"
"The details involve other secrets, I can't disclose them. But what I can tell you is that Dr. Charlotte has been confirmed dead, but your mother is still missing...I'm sorry you have to hear this, kid."
"It's okay, I expected it a little bit..." Eric said in a low voice, "If there is nothing else, I want to go back first. Director, I'm very tired today."
"Of course, Agent Carter will send you back in a while. Oh, there's one more thing..."
Fury pulled the glass desktop with one hand, and the light blue virtual screen immediately stood up from the table. The center of the screen was an emergency news, and the picture was the scene where Eric had just fought fiercely with the huge Dr. Zora.
"This time we will erase all the clues that may affect your life, but you'd better think of a code name as soon as possible." Fury pointed to the green light spots flying in the picture, which was Eric in the green light mode. "After all, you are a household name now."
"I'll think about it."
After leaving the last sentence, Eric left the room.
A moment later, Deputy Director Maria Hill entered the room.
"You didn't tell him the truth, sir." She said, "You didn't tell him how Dr. Charlotte died...and the fact that we gave him the armor."
"It's good now." Fury said lightly, "Dr. Charlotte's genetic lock on the armor allows him to drive the armor, making him think that he was the father's intention of getting the armor, so that he would voluntarily fight. If he guided appropriately, it is beneficial to us. In addition, not letting him know the truth about Dr. Charlotte...it is also a good thing for himself."
