Chapter 88 Battle in Court

As the judicial body of the Eternal Kingdom, the Judiciary has a special court, similar to the courts on earth, responsible for trial or arbitration of cases.

In general cases, the judge will be tried by the assistant magistrate. Only major cases will the judge be officially launched.

However, this time, since the plaintiff was the president of Keating of the Ashes Magic Academy, the referee did not let the assistant magistrate be the chief judge, but instead, the head of the Ashes Judgment, Magistrate Dredd, took action personally.

Because Principal Keating is a great magician and the top presence among great magicians, it is said that he may enter the ranks of magicians in the future. If such a person is a plaintiff, the referee will of course make a convincing ruling. Ordinary assistant magistrates do not have this ability and must Dredd take action himself.

In the court, the plaintiff, Principal Keating and defendant Phil had arrived on time, and the referee Dred did not delay the time and directly announced the trial.

"Defendant, you should have read the complaint, right? Do you have any questions about the content of the complaint? If so, you can raise it on the spot and the plaintiff will explain it." Dred asked routinely.

"I have read the complaint, and I have no doubt about the content of the complaint." Phil answered.

"Okay, do you admit it or partially admit it about the content of the prosecution?" Dred asked again.

"I don't admit it." Phil shook his head without hesitation.

"Since the defendant refuses to admit the content of the plaintiff's lawsuit, please ask the plaintiff to provide evidence on the content of the lawsuit." Dred said.

Principal Keating immediately stood up, took out a document from his briefcase and said, "This is the student transcript of the Ashes Magic Academy in the past three months. Judging from the grades, the grades of our students have been declining in the past three months. And the reason for this is that the emergence of billiards has caused students to be unwilling to study."

Principal Keating took out another document and continued: "This is the attendance form for students in our school in the past three months. The attendance form shows that many students have skipped classes or even skipped school. I once went to the billiards hall near the school during class time and found that those students who skipped classes and skipped school were playing ball in the billiards hall."

Principal Keating took out the third document and continued: "This is the list of students punished by our school in the past three months. Among them, as many as 70% of the students were punished for sleeping during class. After inquiring by the director of our school, we learned that the reason why these students slept in class was because they were still in the billiards hall at 2 a.m., which led to insufficient rest at night."

Principal Keating presented three documents to the magistrate Dredd, who turned his head to look at Phil: "Defendant, do you have anything to say about the evidence presented by the plaintiff?"

"Master Magistrate, I think Principal Keating is shirking responsibility."

Phil paused and said calmly: "The decline in students' grades shows that the quality of teaching in the School of Magic is reduced; and the increase in students' skipping school and absenteeism shows that the management of the School of Magic is poor; as for some students sleeping in class, it is likely that the teacher's speech is too boring.

These are all management issues of the Magic Academy itself and have nothing to do with my billiards hall. Now Principal Keating blames the school management issues on the billiards hall, which is obviously shirking responsibility!”

"There is no problem with the management of our school! All the problems are caused by your billiards hall!" Principal Keating immediately retorted.

"Then Principal Keating, in the past, there was no billiard hall. At that time, were there no students in your school with a decline in grades? Are there no students who skipped classes? Are there no students who went to bed in class?" Phil asked back.

Principal Keating snorted coldly: "Although there were students who skipped school or slept in class in the past, there were not as many now. Since your billiards hall appeared, these bad phenomena have become more and more!"

"That is to say, before the billiards hall appeared, your school had management problems, which caused some students to skip classes or sleep in class, but your school did not completely solve the problem, right?" Phil asked back.

"Any school has such a problem," Principal Keating defended.

Phil smiled and continued to ask, "Since skipping classes and slept in class are common problems in any school, what does it have to do with my billiards hall!"

"It's your billiards hall that exacerbates this problem," said Principal Keating.

"No, it's your school that has never solved this problem." Phil continued: "You have just admitted that this problem exists in all schools and has existed before the billiards halls appeared. So the root cause is not the intensification of the shipbuilding problem in my billiards hall, but that you have never completely solved this problem."

"As long as you close the billiards hall, you can solve this problem." Principal Keating said stubbornly.

"Can you guarantee that if I close all billiard halls, no students will lose grades, no students will miss classes, and no students will go to bed in class?" Phil immediately asked back.

Principal Keating was speechless.

Phil said, looking at the referee Dred, and then said: "Master Referee, the decline in student grades, students skipping classes, and students sleeping in class are phenomena that have existed before the billiard hall, and even the plaintiff himself admitted this. Therefore, these phenomena are not the billiard hall. I think it is unreasonable to sue the billiard hall because of this."

Magistrate Dred nodded: "Plaintiff, as you said, the behaviors of students who skip classes and snore in class and sleeping in class and other behaviors you mentioned in the indictment are problems in any school, and the behaviors of students skip classes and snore in class and sleeping in class have existed before the billiard hall. In terms of chronological order, you cannot use what happened later as a reason for prosecution of bad behaviors that had already happened before, which is unreasonable.

Although you have listed in the evidence that students in your school have absent from class and skip school, etc., which has a certain connection with the billiards hall, the billiards hall is not the only reason why students in your school have absent from class and skip school, and sleep in class and other behaviors. Based on the above reasons, this court does not support your prosecution."

Principal Keating snorted coldly, but did not refute again, as he accepted the verdict of referee Dred.

However, Principal Keating did not admit defeat. The five reasons he listed were: the first three were for the billiards hall, while the second two were for the billiards. Next, what he wanted to attack was the billiards sport.
