Chapter 6 Billiards

Although "Return of the Hero" is a time-honored bar in the town, there is no good bartender here and I can't afford to hire a beautiful lady. In order to attract more customers, I can only find another way. The first thing Phil thought of was to place several pool tables in the bar.

Billiards are a very important event in bars, and there are even many so-called "billiards bar clubs". In an era when entertainment life is relatively scarce, going to the bar to have a drink and play a few billiards is a daily life event for many young people.

In this magical world, there is no such sport as billiards, so Phil plans to invent billiards and save the "Hero Returns" by the way.

Not long after, Old Harry found several large wooden tables, but the size of the wooden table still did not meet Phil's requirements.

"Isn't it a little bigger?" Phil asked looking at the wooden table.

"Master, this is already the largest table. Isn't it big enough?" Old Harry replied.

"It's a little smaller, so let's put the two together." Phil nodded helplessly.

When he was on Earth, Phil's group was involved in various sports industries, including billiards. His sports brand once sponsored some billiards competitions, and Phil still knows this sport well.

For example, the well-known snooker table size is 3.569 meters long and 1.788 meters wide, which is much larger than ordinary tables. The most popular bars are American baggage balls. The size of the table is smaller than that of the snooker table, the length is 2.81 meters, the width is 1.53 meters, and the area is still larger than that of a double bed.

If it were not specially customized, it would be impossible to find such a large table. Even if Phil put two tables together, it still did not meet the requirements of American bag-bearing balls.

"Forget it, I can't find a suitable table for a while, so just use it. The table is smaller, and it is not suitable to open six holes, so let's open four holes first." Phil quickly made a move.

Billiards began in Europe in the 14th century. The earliest billiards used no holes, but used an arch. The purpose of hitting the ball was not to enter the hole, but to hit the ball into the arch. Later, people began to dig holes on the table, and initially they just dug a hole in the center of the table. Playing billiards is similar to playing golf.

The hole then moved from the center of the table to the side, and the number of holes grew from one side to two. Later, it gradually evolved into four holes, and eventually became six holes. During the development of billiards, there were eight holes on the table, but they were still eliminated by the times.

In fact, Phil originally planned to move the American baggage ball directly to this world, but eventually gave up on this idea.

Although the technical content of American baggage balls is far less than that of snookers, it is precisely because of the relatively low difficulty that American baggage balls are far more popular among the people than snookers. The most popular ones in bars are also American baggage balls.

Now the hardware conditions are not met for the time being, and even the size of the table is not suitable, and Phil has not copied the American bag-bearing ball. What's more, for a businessman, the first-generation product can never be the most perfect. If the first-generation product is perfect, then who will buy the second-generation and third-generation products, and how can the merchant make money in the future?

Four-foot-hole billiards may be more suitable for Phil now than American baggage balls. Four-foot-hole billiards can be used as a practice tool to let people understand the sport of billiards. It is not too late to launch American baggage balls when more people become familiar with billiards.

Because the table was not big enough, Phil did not use the sixteen American baggage balls, but used ten wooden balls, one painted as a cue ball, and the other nine wooden balls were all painted as red balls, which was to simplify billiards. For a new sport, the simpler the gameplay and rules, the easier it is to make more people accept it.

...

The afterglow of the sunset dyed the sky a dark red color, and dedicated the last trace of warmth today to this land.

It was getting darker, nightlife was about to begin, and the bar was open.

Luoye Town is not as good as a big city, and there is almost no entertainment here. For the residents of the town, the bar is the best place for them to enjoy. After a day of hard work, I came to the bar to order a glass of wine and bragged with friends who are familiar or unfamiliar, and it has become a part of the lives of the residents of the town.

Phil held the club and stood alone at the pool table, aiming from time to time, then hit a shot, waiting for the guests to take the bait.

Before Phil could wait for a long time, a young guest noticed Phil who was playing billiards. He walked over with a glass of beer and stood by and watched Phil play.

Phil scored a goal, then looked at the guest's expression and found that the other party's face showed a hint of eagerness to try.

"Do you want to give it a try?" Phil said, handing the club to the guest.

The guest did not refuse, took the club and asked, "How is this played?"

"Did you see that white ball? Use a club to hit the white ball, and then let the white ball hit the red ball. As long as the red ball hits the goal hole, it will be successful." Phil explained.

"It sounds simple." The guest said and wanted to try it himself.

"Wait a minute, there are two rules. One is that you cannot directly hit the red ball with a club, and the other is that the white ball cannot be hit into the goal hole." Phil added.

"I understand, let me give it a try." The guest bent down and started hitting the ball as he imitated Phil.

The billiards are a sphere, and the surface is also smooth. For those who play billiards for the first time, the first shot can accurately hit the cue ball and let him roll on the table is a success. The same is true for this guest. He only hit the side of the cue ball in the first shot, and the cue ball did not receive enough force and slid directly to the side.

"It's harder than I thought!" the guest said awkwardly.

"It's okay, just try a few more times." Phil comforted.

After a few strokes, the guest was able to hit the cue ball more skillfully, and once successfully knocked the red ball into the hole.

The guest was satisfied with a successful goal, and he couldn't help but praise: "What a fun game."

At this time, another spectator also came to the pool table, and it seemed that he wanted to try it out too.

"Does this gentleman want to give it a try?" Phil said, handing the club to the other party.

As more and more guests are in the bar, there are many people surrounding the pool table, and every guest wants to try this fresh game.

This original version of billiards is simple, but the entertainment activities in the magic world are extremely lacking. A simple pool table is enough to make people in this world feel sufficient fun.

Old Harry came over with a glass of beer, and handed it to Phil, and used a freezing magic to freeze the beer.

Phil took the beer and took a big sip. He wasted a lot of saliva when he introduced billiards to the guests, and now he is already dry.

"Master, the billiards you made are very popular with guests." Old Harry complimented.

"Yes, with this thing here, we can keep the guests." Phil said as he put down his beer, pointed to an area in the bar, and continued, "Harry, find me three more big tables tomorrow, and I want to add three more pool tables!"
