Chapter 282 The Eastern Feast (Part 2)

The 1944-type organization and the 1943-type organization are in line with the logical system, and both emphasize the construction of armored divisions (armored grenade divisions) according to the core principle of the "4th Regiment, 6th Battalion, 8th Company System". The marching of this master system (reorganized division) is theoretically large in force and technical equipment, which cannot be used for ordinary countries and has extremely high requirements for command capabilities. However, it meets the situation where the German army does not have a first-level command organization in the army, and is consistent with the actual combat requirements in the future. Although there is a little more equipment, it is nothing more than a number for Germany, which has nearly the entire Europe and has reached a higher level of general mobilization system. As for command capabilities, Germany now has the best land war commander in the world, which is no problem.

After seeing the luxurious organization of the US armored division (taking the US Second Armored Division as an example, it had 228 medium tanks, 114 light tanks, 53 tank destroyers at the time of full unit, a total of 395 tanks and killing vehicles, another 156 armored vehicles, more than 100 various artillery pieces with a caliber of 75mm and more than 2,000 various military vehicles), the German army was also shocked. Although everyone did not think of the combat effectiveness of the US armored division, the German General Staff, which was unwilling to fall behind in equipment, would definitely defend the honor of the world's first army, and it would be a shame to beat countries around the world!

So based on the 1943 type, the unprecedented 1944 armored division was launched, forming a total of 4 regiments of the Armored Division's combat core, including 1 armored regiment, 2 armored grenadier divisions and 1 armored artillery regiment. Each regiment has 4 battalions, which overall reaches the scale of the 4th battalion and 16th company. In addition, the direct troops of the division headquarters also include 6 independent battalions and 8 independent companies. The 6th battalion is: Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Armored Engineer Battalion, Armored Communication Battalion, Field Maintenance Battalion, Armored Air Defense Battalion and Medical Battalion. The 8th Company includes: Command Company, Teaching Company, Guard Company, Gendarmerie Company, Military Company (responsible for Food, Clothing, Housing and Transportation Company), Military Band, Supply Company (responsible for Ammunition) and Transportation Company.

Compared with the 1943 type, the 1944 type reduced the motorized baggage battalion and directly included it in the direct sequence of each front-line combat force. The maintenance company was upgraded to a field maintenance battalion, strengthening the battlefield support function. As for the teaching company, it mainly trains a new group of backbone officers, especially the lieutenant and the captain were promoted to major. This is particularly important.

Among the four battalions of the Armored Regiment, 1 heavy armored battalion (Tiger, 54 vehicles), 3 medium armored battalions (Leopard, 76 vehicles per battalion), a total of 290 tanks (4 armored battalions totaled 282 vehicles and 8 vehicles in the regiment headquarters); the armored grenade battalion has a 3+1 structure from top to bottom, that is, 3 infantry battalions in each regiment are equipped with a fire battalion, and 3 infantry companies in each battalion are equipped with a firepower company. All infantry personnel are equipped with armored vehicles (one squad takes 2 S to dkz.251 semi-track armored vehicles). The firepower battalion includes 2 companies of Wasp self-propelled artillery, 1 company of Himmler organ and 1 company of cyclone self-propelled anti-aircraft gun (mainly killing and assisting air defense).

There is another interesting thing about the Wasp's self-propelled artillery. Historically, Hitler did not like the word Hornet, and finally changed it to the SDKZ.124 self-propelled howitzer, but Hoffman obviously didn't mind this. However, under his command, the No. 2 chassis had long been discontinued, so the German Hornet's self-propelled artillery was a 105mm self-propelled howitzer with 38t chassis. At that time, he developed the cricket's self-propelled artillery based on the 38t turf. Although the firepower of the cricket is stronger than that of the hornets, the overweight cricket's mobility is not very good and the failure rate is also high, so it was all changed to the hornets.

In order to highlight firepower and take into account flexible maneuvers, the armored artillery regiment has significantly reduced towed artillery compared to the ordinary artillery regiment. The main firepower includes two heavy artillery battalions (150mm Grizzly self-propelled artillery). The Grizzly was produced using the No. 4 chassis. Hoffman was very optimistic about the No. 4 tank destroyer, so the No. 4 tank killer has never been installed. Only the Grizzly (self-propelled howitzer), cyclone (4 20mm self-propelled anti-aircraft guns) and ball lightning (2 30mm self-propelled anti-aircraft guns).

Originally, there was a 37mm Dongfeng self-propelled anti-aircraft gun based on the No. 4 chassis, but after the test, it was found that it was far inferior to the ball lightning, so the Dongfeng was cut off by Sperer without hesitation. In addition to the fewer weapons based on the No. 2, 3, and 4 chassis, there were many fewer weapons, such as rhinos, historically, they were not manufactured and only stayed on the drawings. As for the wild bees originally based on the T-34 chassis, they were later removed. Although it was less fun, it was of great benefit to reducing the complexity of the equipment.

The other two battalions of the Armored Artillery Regiment are the 88mm anti-aircraft artillery battalion (the 88-aircraft artillery battalion is hitting the plane and the tank is hitting the tank even if it cannot be transformed by itself); one battalion of assaulters (88mm tank destroyer with T-34 as the chassis, 72).

After this calculation, the total number of the reorganized 1944 Armored Division was about 22,500, with 378 tank and killing (in addition to the 362 tanks and killings of the Armored Regiment and Artillery Regiment, there are 16 tanks in the division's direct troops), more than 200 self-propelled artillery, and nearly 800 semi-track armored vehicles of various types. In order to ensure the operation of such a huge mechanized equipment, the entire division was equipped with more than 2,800 European standard trucks.

The military chief Lieutenant General Schmont (because he strongly guaranteed the supply and dispatch of materials on the Eastern Front, he was promoted to Lieutenant General in early 1944) calculated the price and cost of this armored division in detail: the entire set of optical equipment for a 1944 armored division is equivalent to four Tirpitzs. In terms of daily fuel consumption, it is about 16 Tirpitzs, which consumes at least 300 tons of fuel a day, and such an armored division needs to be driven without 5,000 tons of oil (it is based on the propulsion limit of 150 kilometers per day). If it is a battle, it must be at least double or even more.

He came to a conclusion that it was absolutely not economically cost-effective to arm such troops alone. Relying on being the head of state's confidant and chief adjutant, he secretly told Hoffman about this conclusion, believing that instead of accumulating all the highest and best equipment to build super troops, it is better to send more other equipment to the general army, such as producing less tiger-style and equip ordinary infantry with an additional batch of No. 3 assault guns.

"I know your conclusion. If it is the early stage of the war or even the stalemate, I will definitely adopt your suggestions. But you must be clear that when the war is about to come to an end or a regional battlefield is about to end, I have other intentions to bring out these weapons and equipment to build such elite troops." Hoffman explained, "I not only have to focus on solving the Bolshevik problem, but also use this force to intimidate the Americans, so that they know that they can never beat us."

"This... is hard to understand." Schmont scratched his scalp. "The United States has much more money than us, and they can afford to consume it."

"But they can't fight for their lives." Hoffman smiled slightly, "I took out 10 1944 armored divisions on the Western Front. If the Americans use ordinary equipment, how many people would they die for it? 200,000? 300,000? 500,000? The US military may be less than 500,000. If they are allowed to die an additional 500,000, what do you think?"

Schmont was silent. He could not guarantee that the United States would withdraw from the war if it died another 500,000 yuan, but at least it could guarantee that the US government would be even more majestic.

"In order to overwhelm our 10 1944 armored divisions, and they don't want to die many people, Americans must prepare better, more advanced, more resource-consuming troops. At least they have to fight again, right?" Hoffman smiled. "You must be very clear about the war economy in the medieval period. Raising a heavy cavalry of 1,000 people costs more than 100,000 ordinary infantry, but as long as the monarchs have strength, they must choose heavy cavalry. Why? This is the deterrent force, telling the surroundings that they know that it will cost a huge price to fight me!"

"Their armored divisions cannot beat us..." Schmont shook his head, "and there are not many. I heard from the SS American Division that there are only 5-6 at present, but their ordinary divisions are better equipped than us."

"When the last battle against the Soviet Union is over, how much courage do you think the Americans have to land and fight us? He wants to bring out stronger strength and better equipment, right? In this way, we will gain time, fight for the time to unify Europe and improve our strength." Hoffman smiled, "In the future, the war on the Eastern Front is over, and we don't have to retain such a huge army. If we want to shock those forces in Europe that are ready to move, do you think it's better to leave 10 1944 armored divisions or 20 ordinary divisions?"

Shi Mengte nodded, expressing his acceptance of this view.

Hoffmann made a simple example. He actually did not tell the other party the direction of the future military revolution. The equipment must be developing in an increasingly sophisticated and more expensive direction, and the number must also decline sharply. Thousands of heavy equipment like World War II are no longer available. Under the premise of possessing nuclear weapons, there are more than a hundred fourth-generation aircraft, fifth-generation aircraft, and thousands of main battle tanks are enough for a country to dominate. I haven't seen the Royal Navy, which once traversed all over the world and had to use battleships to calculate the battleships, could not even get a dozen warships together in the early 20th century?

There is no problem with other equipment and personnel now, but the production of the Leopard tank has dragged its back, and even if all the newly produced Leopard tanks are not enough to be replaced, Sperer vowed to ensure that he will definitely be able to take out enough Leopard tanks for the troops in mid-May. With such a positive answer, Hoffman and Guderian are not in a hurry. There is still a spring muddy process in the Caucasus Plain in April, and the Red Army's spirit has not been completely exhausted, so the Caspian Army Group needs to continue to grind it. In June, Thor's Hammer will tell the Russians how to write the word "despair".
