Chapter 643 Southeast Anatolia Project
Gap, Southeast Anatolia Project, greatanatoliaprojet, referred to as Gap, is proposed by the State Administration of Water Resources, the main body of the Turkish government to carry out national water resources planning, engineering construction and operation. This is a watershed overall development project based on water resources development. It includes the construction of a series of dams on the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, with the purpose of irrigation and power generation.
The climate in the area where this project is located is hot and dry, with an average altitude of 1,500-2,000 meters. The landform characteristics are mainly basins and plains formed by mountain and river erosion. After the gap project is completed, regional water diversion canals and tunnels can be achieved, which can provide a large amount of water sources to the central and eastern regions every year to alleviate the water pressure in economically developed areas.
As the country's main natural resource development agency, the State Administration of Water Resources and Engineering is responsible for managing all surface and groundwater resources and some public land owned by the state. They have long targeted the convenient conditions of these two rivers. This project has been planned, including 22 dams, 19 hydropower stations, a total installed capacity of 7476mw, an annual power generation of 27345gwh, and an irrigation area of 1.693 million square kilometers.
Such a large-scale hydropower project is a major event that benefits the entire Turkish country! For example, if all power plants are built, more than half of the country's electricity can be used to generate electricity. This is very important for Turkey, which is resource-scarce. At the same time, the increased water source irrigation land can also continue to increase Turkey's grain output and become an emerging grain exporter.
However, this project has been proposed for many years and has not been implemented. Even in later generations, three dams and two hydropower stations have been built, with an installed capacity of 3200mw, a power generation of 16254gwh, and an irrigation area of 36945 square kilometers, which is quite different from the plan.
Among them, in addition to the issue of funding sources, the most important thing is the strong opposition from other countries, namely Iraq and Syria!
The Euphrates and Tigris Rivers are the cradles of Middle Eastern civilization. The ancient Middle Eastern civilization was born in the meso-river basin. These rivers originate from the mountains in eastern Turkey, with a distance of less than 80 kilometers. They flow in the southeast direction through northern Syria and Iraq, and inject into the Persian Gulf.
If the Turks develop hydropower projects at the source of the two rivers, the Turks can get all the benefits, including hydropower and irrigation. However, their transitional use of water in the river will inevitably lead to a reduction or even exhaustion of the water downstream of the river! In this way, Turkey upstream is eating meat, and Syria and Iraq downstream are only allowed to go.
Therefore, after Türkiye proposed such a project, Syria and Iraq expressed firm opposition. If Türkiye wants to build such a hydropower project, it is undoubtedly declaring war on Syria and Türkiye!
Therefore, although Türkiye has been brewing countless times, it has not been implemented. But now, the situation is different!
One of the biggest opposition countries, Iraq, is in a state of war! Saddam was killed in the war, and the Iraqi government forces are retreating step by step. So, at this time, even if the Iraqis oppose it, they have no substantial actions to oppose Türkiye! What's so scary about a government that is about to perish?
As for the Kurds? What is their right to say now? They have not won the Iraq War with the United States and shared the fruits of the war! Even if the Kurds raised objections, they were not qualified!
As for the United States? This is Turkey's internal affairs, the United States will not be too polite, right? Türkiye has joined NATO and has to listen to the United States in military affairs, but Turkey has its own choices in government affairs in such countries.
Therefore, Turkey's hydropower project has little resistance, and only Syria is left! Syria's current focus is on confrontation with Israel, which is the real feud. Without Iraq's joint march, Syria will at most verbally condemn and should not resort to force.
In this way, Türkiye can take this opportunity to completely repair the hydropower station! After the construction of this hydropower station, it will play a great role in promoting Türkiye's economic development!
Moreover, vaguely, Evron felt that only this would make him happy. After all, the United States has caused Turkey to suffer too much! It is a disgusting thing for one side to do this, and the Americans can only let this situation go. Humph!
The United States’ recent actions have really disappointed Turkey. They are doing this now for their own national interests.
"General, if we invest now, because we have no plans in advance, the country may not be able to invest much money." At this moment, an aide said to Efren.
This large-scale water conservancy project cannot be built just by construction. If all the projects are implemented, the investment required is astronomical, and it will take Turkey's GDP for several years. It is so huge that it cannot be started just by talking about it.
"We can attract private investment, or attract investment from other countries, and then we can promise a profit for ten years," Evren said.
Although he was a soldier, Evron still had keen political insights. Now this opportunity must be seized. Hydropower projects must be fully launched as soon as possible, so other ways of investing are needed, especially other countries! In this way, this project can be turned into an international project. If Syria and Iraq want to oppose it, it will become opposing several developed countries in the world.
"Yes." The staff replied, this is indeed a solution.
In international struggle, it is not just a military struggle, but economic and political struggle, but more important!
………
The border between Iran and Türkiye is an unknown hill.
The surroundings are full of mountains. This geographical location determines its easy defense and difficult attack. As long as there are a small number of guerrillas, it can have a great impact. In this kind of mountain combat, it is a headache for all troops.
Among them, many mountains are still in an undeveloped state, and the lush trees turn this place into a unique landscape of nature. At this time, although the border is tense and there will be a war at any time, it still brings the tranquility of nature.
