Gap, Southeast Anatolia Project, greatanatoliaprojet, referred to as Gap, is proposed by the State Administration of Water Resources, the main body of the Turkish government to carry out national water resources planning, engineering construction and operation. This is a watershed overall development project based on water resources development. It includes the construction of a series of dams on the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, with the purpose of irrigation and power generation.

The climate in the area where this project is located is hot and dry, with an average altitude of 1,500-2,000 meters. The landform characteristics are mainly basins and plains formed by mountain and river erosion. After the gap project is completed, regional water diversion canals and tunnels can be achieved, which can provide a large amount of water sources to the central and eastern regions every year to alleviate the water pressure in economically developed areas.
