Chapter 629 The exercise begins

On June 30, 1984, Babylonian rage officially began in the Gulf of Aqaba in northwestern Saudi Arabia.

The first part of the exercise was the battle for air supremacy. A brigade of F-15 that took off from Saudi Prince Sudan Air Force Base and a unique air confrontation with two squadrons of Phantom 4000 that took off from Basra Air Force Base.

Neither side has the support of early warning aircraft. The early warning aircraft is only responsible for judging the tactics and applications of both sides. This exercise has no plan and is completely the same as actual combat. Whoever can lock the other side in advance means victory.

The Saudi Air Force's F-15 fighter jets are divided into three squadrons to search for airspace from three directions, hoping to discover the other side in advance, and at the same time guide medium-range air-to-air missiles to complete combat outside the visual range.

Then, in the predetermined direction, they did not find the target.

There was only one large target, a passenger plane flying from Riyadh to Europe, who were careful to get away from the airspace of the exercise and flew past the airspace.

"No target was found, the second and third squadrons turned to the direction 0-3-1." said the captain of Saudi F-15 brigade.

The third squadron on the right side of the formation took the lead in turning right, and then he found that there was indeed a highlight flying in the south. The Iraqi pilot was so cunning that he actually circled a big circle!

They traveled through half of Saudi Arabia at a very low altitude, and finally rushed north from the Red Sea, which was completely a direction they had not expected.

However, Saudi pilots were also very fickle. After turning south, they discovered the target from the radar and began to prepare before the battle. They turned on the fire control system of the Sparrow Air-to-air missile and prepared to use the radar to lock the opponent. Of course, the final launch is unnecessary. As long as they lock the opponent step by step, they will win. Although the performance of the air-to-air missile is not very good in air combat, this is the principle of the game!

Although the performance of Phantom 4000 is already relatively powerful, in terms of medium range, France's radar performance cannot be compared with that of the United States, especially the F-15c, its radar, but the latest improved APG-63 radar developed by the United States can still easily lock the opponent.

What makes the Saudi pilots strange is that there is only one highlight. Does it mean that the other side has only one fighter? In the pre-arrangement, they are fighting with the Phantom 4000 air force of the other side's two squadrons. Now, the other side has only one. If they fight like this, it would be too unworthy of the Arab brothers.

Just as the pilots of the two Saudi flight squadrons were thinking easily in their minds, they suddenly heard the sound from their headphones and were locked!

On the radar, the opponent is still eighty kilometers away from him, how can he lock himself? The opponent's radar performance cannot be more advanced than his own? Besides, even if he locks himself at such a long distance, what method can they use to attack him? The opponent's missile is only a range of more than 30 kilometers!

However, at this time, the voice of the early warning aircraft commander had already heard from the headphones: "The second squadron and the third squadron were shot down two fighter jets. Please withdraw from the exercise airspace."

Was shot down? How did the early warning aircraft determine? Saudi pilots were dissatisfied.

Only Prince Fahd, who was sitting on the early warning plane, understood that the Iraqi Air Force did not play according to common sense!

Just after the Saudi Air Force's fighter jet turned south, the passenger plane that looked no different suddenly changed from one highlight to five highlights!

An Iraqi Phantom 4000 fleet used a large and dense formation to get under the belly of the passenger plane. In this way, they entered the vicinity of the combat airspace with the cover of the passenger plane.

They successfully concealed the Saudi Air Force's eyes. Just after entering the airspace near the exercise, they suddenly came out from under the belly of the passenger plane, turned left, accelerated, and turned on their radars to quickly lock on the Saudi Air Force fighter jets that had turned south.

If it is a fighter jet, it is acceptable to drill under the belly of the passenger plane, but now there are four! The four fighter jets are flying in a dense formation, which is already a very dangerous subject. If you drill under a large aircraft, due to the influence of airflow, if you are not careful, it will cause heavy consequences, not to mention, this is a passenger plane!

Although the world is safe, forgetting the war will lead to danger. Iraq has been through war for a long time and has trained a powerful air force. Although Saudi pilots are also among the elites, they will not fly in a dense formation, let alone fly under the large aircraft.

After they flew out, they rushed towards the unprepared Saudi fighter jets and "killed" four of them directly.

The fighter pilot of the Saudi Air Force who was "shooted down" was very regretful and had been shot down before he could see the enemy!

In the sky now, there are eight Saudi F-15s and eight Iraqi Phantom 4000s.

The remaining pilots of the Saudi Air Force were furious, and the two squadrons separated and flew towards Iraqi fighter jets in the east and south.

The Saudi Air Force fighter jets that continued to head south suddenly discovered the light spot in front and were divided into four.

Still a intensive formation!

Both sides headed head-on and began the second action to lock each other.

As the two sides approached at high speed, they each had two planes, which successfully locked the other side.

In the sky, six fighter jets were left on each side and entered close combat.

The f-15 is a conventional aerodynamic layout, but the United States has the best level in all fields, so the f-15 is average and has excellent air combat performance, especially the two Pratt-Whitney developed at the rear... The engine has a bypass ratio of 0.7, a dual-axis 3-stage fan + a 10-stage high-pressure compressor + a 2-stage turbine, a thrust-weight ratio of 7.8, and an afterburner thrust of up to 11,340 kg, providing a solid foundation for the superior performance of the f-15.

However, the Phantom 4000 adopts an unconventional layout of large triangle wings and front full-move canards, which directly provides head-up lift. Although the engine is still a shortcoming, with the advantage of appearance, both sides win and lose each other in close combat.

However, the Saudi Air Force pilots have one biggest disadvantage, that is, they have no practical experience! So, in the end, the two sides fought from high altitude to low altitude, and from the formation of two aircraft into single aircraft. In the end, there were four remaining in Iraq's Phantom 4000, while only one Saudi F-15 was left. (To be continued) rq!~!
