Chapter 663 Lantian Jieyang Raising Kelp

Longchuan is located in the northeast of Jiaozhou. Because it is the farthest from the political center of Nanhai and also far from the seaside of Jieyang, it has the smallest population and the weakest economic strength among the six counties in Nanhai.

After several years of planning, Tanding finally attracted a large number of immigrants to move in, and it became the second most populous county in Nanhai after Guangzhou (including Panyu).

Gan Ning's messenger arrived at Longchuan, and Tan Dingzhou personally took him to Jieyang.

Jieyang is adjacent to the sea, has inland rivers, fertile land, and open terrain. Most of the indigenous people are fishermen, and the farmers who grow food have relatively backward planting techniques.

After Tanding Zhou was appointed governor of Longjie, he went to Lantian to apply for several agricultural researchers and improved production under their guidance.

While Samoko was stationed in Longchuan, he established friendship with the two "minorities" of Tandingzhou and Zhou. He settled the barbarians who moved from Chenyang in Jieyang and continued to make a living by fishing and growing rice.

After Lantian proposed artificial cultivation of kelp, he rushed to Jieyang six months ago with dozens of agricultural researchers and dozens of craftsmen.

The principle of kelp farming is indeed simple. With the experience of later generations of kelp farmers, the safest and strongest single raft can be used for rope farming.

Lantian had dabbled in kelp cultivation in his agricultural elective course, so there were no technical obstacles. However, the production tools of this era were extremely backward, and the first step became a big problem, which was to use wild kelp to raise seedlings.

In the kelp farming process, raising seedlings requires the most energy, which is why Lantian stayed in Jieyang for half a year.

Kelp seedlings start with the construction of a nursery. The nursery needs to consider complex processes such as water sources and temperature control. The water supply and drainage system does not have the support of water pumps. Lantian can only discuss countermeasures with the craftsmen on site, and finally adopts traditional pumping and drainage technology, plus modern

The siphon technology is completed.

The water supply and drainage system of the nursery covers the siphon room, sedimentation tank, filter tank, cooling tank, storage tank, return tank, water supply tank, etc. There is no modern industrial equipment and it is all completed by manpower.

Fortunately, the most lacking thing in Lantian now is people. Dozens of craftsmen are responsible for controlling the craftsmanship. Thousands of barbarian soldiers from Samoko are mainly responsible for manual labor. They are more enthusiastic about finding a livelihood for the people than building the city of Guangzhou. Not only are they working hard

Together with the construction of nurseries, living quarters for agricultural researchers and craftsmen were also built.

During the construction of the nursery, Lantian took agricultural researchers to the beach to collect wild kelp next to the reef for use. Finally, mature kelp with thick, flat, shiny leaves and thick stalks was selected. In order to prevent the selected kelp from being damaged

Light stimulation requires bringing them back to the nursery pool between sunset and sunrise for later use.

In kelp suitable for breeding, the sporangium clusters will protrude outside the epidermis. They are dark and rough in color and look like peeling skin. They can release large amounts of zoospores.

Under natural conditions, mature kelp sporangia will gradually release zoospores, but cultivating kelp can speed up the process and use the shade-drying method to stimulate repeatedly, so that the sporangia, like pores, suddenly absorb water and expand to release a large number of zoospores.

A large number of zoospores will eventually attach to the nursery curtain, which is a specially processed hemp rope that needs to go through processes such as dry hammering, soaking, wet beating, steaming, and weaving.

Because there is no microscope observation in Lantian, we don’t know how many zoospores are attached to each seedling curtain. We can only make a simple estimate based on the time, and then change the water and move the curtains before cultivating them in separate pools. A small attachment density will affect the number of seedlings, and a large attachment density will affect the number of seedlings.

It hinders the growth of spores and may lead to large-scale rot and seedling loss in the later stage.

Under limited conditions, Lantian can only increase cultivation samples, allowing agricultural researchers to record experiments and finally arrive at the optimal seedling emergence method.

In the process of cultivating kelp seedlings, light, water temperature, etc. are all very important. According to Lantian's requirements, the agricultural researchers have food and accommodation near the nursery. In addition to carefully caring for the kelp seedlings, they also need to record data as much as possible.

Agricultural researchers admire Lantian so much that Lantian said that he would use the most accurate data and record the breeding experience in books so that future people do not need to repeat experiments and can refer to kelp breeding books.

The temptation to write a book is great. The names of these agricultural researchers who participated in the records will appear in the final book, so they are very attentive to cultivating kelp, and each of them records a large amount of data every day.

Lantian and his team have been busy for nearly half a year. In mid-September, the kelp seedlings were moved to the sea for temporary cultivation. The supporting breeding tools such as breeding rafts, wooden piles, floating rafts, and hanging ropes were completed by craftsmen while the kelp seedlings were being cultivated.

From the time of temporary cultivation of kelp seedlings, Lantian asked the Samoko tribe to participate. He used the hanging method to hang the seedlings. In addition to preventing the seedlings from colliding with wind and waves, he also had to adjust the depth of the kelp seedlings into the water at any time.

Kelp likes low temperatures. The lower the temperature, the faster it grows. Around mid-October, kelp seedlings will grow to four to seven inches.

Due to lack of experience at the beginning, the cutting of kelp seedlings ended up taking a long time. It was not until the eve of the arrival of Gan Ning's messenger that the first batch of kelp seedlings in Lantian was completed.

Looking at the densely packed farming rafts on the sea, which looked like vast warships, Samoko couldn't help but sigh, "Sir, you are really a god. He actually made all the wild kelp into domesticated ones. You are saying that you are a god. I am a god." Shadu has no choice but to believe it.”

"The war horses are tamed from wild horses, and the dogs that guard the house are also tamed from wolves. Similarly, it is not unusual to domesticate wild kelp. Gods can fly in the clouds, move mountains and fill seas? Do they need to be exposed to the wind and sun every day with you? ?" Lan Tian shook his head and smiled bitterly.

In fact, Lan Tian also breathed a long sigh of relief, which means that "what you see on paper will eventually become shallow, but you will definitely know that you have to practice it". He originally thought that kelp cultivation was not complicated, and at best it was a little more troublesome than cultivating mushrooms, but this is a big deal. He has hardly stopped for half a year, and his originally fair skin has turned bronze again.

Agricultural researchers have recorded hundreds of kelp cultivation data. Lantian plans to slowly compile and organize it after returning to Guangzhou, and then form another agricultural book. When there are enough agricultural books, he plans to add an agricultural department to Guangzhou Academy, or A new agricultural college will be opened to train agricultural talents.

Shamoke chuckled and added: "We can't see those wild gods, but you, the living god, are often seen by me. You have already instructed my people on the later care of kelp, and you have also left agricultural researchers to guide the breeding. You Are you going back to Guangzhou?"

Lan Tian nodded, "Yes, we have spent more than half a year in Jieyang. My daughter is one year older. It will be Chinese New Year if we don't go back..."

"The kelp will not be harvested until April or May next year. I will have already gone on an expedition to Linyi with General Gao at that time. I will have to trouble you sir to give guidance then..." Samoko smiled naively.

"Don't worry, General Sha. Even if you don't tell me, I will come again. There are also methods for drying and harvesting kelp." Lan Tian nodded.

While the two were talking with emotion, Gao Yuan came running over and reported: "Sir, Governor Tan is here with General Gan's messenger."
