Chapter 1178 Old partner takes office

The troops trapped in the 813 Factory, under the command of Bronnikov, successfully broke through the encirclement of the Imperial Division after a fierce battle. More than 400 of the more than 2,000 commanders and fighters successfully retreated to the left bank of the North Donets River and joined the main force there.

Shortly after the Soviet army lost Kharkov, Belgorod was also occupied by the Great Germanic Motorized Infantry Division. The main force of the Voronezh Front had to repeatedly choose to retreat under the attack of the German army.

Fortunately, the 6th and 21st Army troops launched a feint attack in the direction of Balvinkovo, and the Southwest Front troops also actively feinted at Ijium, forcing the German army to stop the pursuit. In this way, the Voronezh Front, which retreated through the North Donets River, was able to establish a new defensive position along the river bank in the Oboyan area in southern Kursk.

Sokov is now a member of the Grassland Front, and even the commander of the Front is not favored by his superiors, let alone a small army commander. Because it was only a week later that he learned about the withdrawal of the Voronezh Front to the left bank of the North Donets River.

After learning about this information, Sokov couldn't help but smile and shook his head. He did not expect that the correctiveness of history was so strong. He thought that after severely attacking Haussel's SS, the fate of Kharkov-Belgorod could be avoided, and this enemy-to-we-fast situation could be maintained until the Battle of Kursk began.

Who knew that as soon as he was transferred from the Sixth Army, Manstein re-launched the attack on Kharkov-Belgorod and achieved success, which he had never expected.

But whether Kharkov is in the hands of the Germans or the Soviet army, he has no relationship with Sokov, half a Kobe, and his main energy is now concentrated on training the troops. Only in a short period of time can he create a strong army and make more contributions in the next two years.

When Sameko saw Sokov answering a call, he sat at the table in a daze, and asked curiously: "Comrade Commander, what are you thinking? I see you sitting here and staring in daze."

"Comrade Chief of Staff," Sokov looked up at Sameko and said with a wry smile: "I just got the news that Kharkov-Belgorod fell into the hands of the enemy again."

"What, Kharkov-Belgorod was lost?" Sameko said in surprise: "We are not so many troops near this area, how could the Germans easily seize our city?"

Sokov didn't know how to answer Sameko's question for a moment. In fact, he was quite puzzled. According to real history, the German troops captured by Kharkov were three SS divisions commanded by Haussel. Not long ago, these three divisions suffered their own devastating blows. How could they recover their vitality so quickly and even capture the city again?

Just as Sokov was thinking about how to answer, the phone ringing on the table rang. Sameko picked it up and listened for a moment, and said, "I understand, I will report to the commander immediately."

When Sokov heard Sameko mention him, he didn't know what happened. As soon as the other party put down the phone, he immediately asked: "Comrade Chief of Staff, what happened?"

"The report of the checkpoint on duty outside the town said that General Susaikov, the military commissioner of the Front Army, has arrived."

When Sokov learned that the front military committee member had arrived, he was surprised: "Chief of Staff, what's going on? Why did the front military committee member do such a big event, didn't you tell me in advance?"

"Comrade Commander, you blame me for this." Hearing Sokov's criticism of himself, Sameko said with a grievance: "I have not received any notice at all, and I don't know why the military committee member of the Front Army came."

"What's going on? Let's go back and investigate." Sokov saw that Sameko didn't know what Susaikov was coming, and guessed that it might be a call from the command's duty officer, but forgot to notify himself and Sameko. Now he can only receive Susaikov and then slowly investigate the matter: "Let's go out to welcome the military committee members of the Front Army first."

After the three jeeps were parked at the commander's office entrance in turn, the passenger door of the car in the middle opened, and a major came out from inside. After getting off the car, he immediately opened the door behind and held the roof with his hands to prevent people from touching their heads.

Soon, a person came out of the car, which was General Susaikov whom Sokov knew. He and Sameko rushed forward, raised their hand to salute each other, and reported according to the regulations: "Comrade of the Front Military Commission and Major General Sokov (Sameko), the commander of the 27th Army, reported to you, welcome to our Group Army to inspect."

Susaikov shook hands with the two, and smiled and said to Sokov: "General Sokov, I have brought you an old friend."

"Old friend?" Sokov asked in surprise: "Who is it?"

Susaikov smiled but did not answer, but turned his head to the car and said, "Get down."

When the people in the car appeared in everyone's sight, Sokov couldn't help but shouted in surprise: "General Lunev, it's you?"

"Yes, Comrade Commander." Lunev grabbed Sokov's hand and said with a smile: "I'm here to find you again."

Sokov looked at Susaikov on the side with some wonder, trying to figure out what was going on. Susaikov smiled and explained to Sokov: "General Sokov, after Comrade Lunev's application and the solemn consideration of his superiors, he decided to formally appoint Comrade Lunev as the military committee member and political commissar of your group army."

Sokov was overjoyed to learn that his superior asked Lunev to continue to be a military commissioner for him. A few days ago, he was worried that his superior would send an unknown person to serve as his military commissioner, and that unnecessary conflicts might occur due to the concept of military training. But now the military commissioner appointed by his superior is actually his former partner Lunev, which immediately made Sokov let go of a huge rock in his heart.

"Hello, comrade of the military committee." Sameko raised his hand to salute Lunev, and introduced himself: "I am the chief of staff of the army, and we will fight side by side in the future."

"Hello, Comrade Chief of Staff." Lunev held Sameko's hand and said with a smile: "I'm glad to know you."

"Since everyone knows you, please come in." After the simple greetings, Sokov and others greeted everyone and said, "Let's go inside and continue chatting."

The four of them came to the command center and after sitting down, Susaikov looked at Sokov and said, "General Sokov, my mission today is to send Comrade Lunev to office. Since you are old partners, you can be exempted from introducing each other."

"General Susaikov," Lunev said to Susaikov with a smile: "Although I haven't been together for a long time, we get along very well. Since we were able to live in harmony in the 6th Army before, there will be no problem in the 27th Army now."

As soon as Lunev finished speaking, a staff member brought tea and pastries. After the staff member put various pastries on the table one by one, Sokov called Susekov and Lunev: "Two, please have tea and eat."

Seeing the various pastries placed in front of him, Lunev said in surprise: "Comrade Commander, it seems that you are living a good life here. I have been in the Sixth Army for so long, but I have never seen you greet friends with pastries."

"Military Comrade, this cannot be compared." Although Sokov knew that Lunev's complaints were joking, in order not to make Susaikov misunderstand, he explained specifically: "When we were stationed in the Red Army Village, we were more than a thousand kilometers away from the supply base behind. But here is the suburb of Moscow, and a lot of supplies transported to Moscow must pass through our defense zone, so our supplies will naturally be much more sufficient than before."

"The supplies are sufficient." Lunev was anxious to know the situation of the troops, so he took the opportunity to ask: "Where are the weapons and ammunition replenishment? Can you still get the original equipment?"

Sokov knew that the weapons Lunev mentioned refer to the new rockets and rocket launchers equipped in the troops in the past, so he shook his head and said, "Comrade Military Commissioner, the equipment you mentioned has not been equipped with us yet. But I believe that it won't take long before the equipment we are familiar with will be continuously replenished to our troops."

"What are you two talking about?" Susaikov, who was standing beside him, couldn't help but ask in surprise: "Why can't I understand at all?"

"General Susaikov, I will explain this matter to you." Lunev turned to Susaikov and said, "The reason why we were able to defeat the German army repeatedly and achieve brilliant results in the past. In addition to proper command and brave combat, there are two new weapons that are related to."

"Two new weapons?" Since the new rockets and bazooka have only equipped Sokov's troops so far, not many people know about it. Although Susaikov is a military member of the Front Army, his authority is insufficient, it is naturally impossible to know this new weapon: "What new weapon, why have I never heard of it?"

Lunev continued: "One is a new type of rocket, which uses the launching barrel to launch. Since the launching barrel and rocket are not large in size, they can be launched under any terrain, and have a huge lethality, which can be said to be a nightmare for the Germans.

Secondly, it is a rocket launcher used to fight tanks. Within a range of 120 meters, all German tanks except Tiger can be destroyed, so that we do not need to use the lives of a few, dozens or even dozens of warriors to exchange for an enemy tank."

Susaikov frowned and asked in surprise: "But why have I never heard of these two weapons?"

"This is a newly developed weapon and is still in the testing stage," Lunev explained. "It is normal that you don't know that there are no troops yet."

"Since there are no troops in place," Susaikov looked at Sokov with confusion, and then looked at Lunev: "Then why can your troops obtain these two weapons?"

"The reason is very simple." Lunev said with a smile: "Because these two weapons were invented by Comrade Sokov, it would be normal to put the weapons test work in their troops."

Lunev's words aroused great interest from Susaikov. He turned to Sokov and asked, "General Sokov, do you have that new weapon in your army? I want to see what it looks like, and go back to report to General Konev."

"Sorry, comrade of the military committee." Sokov said apologetically after hearing Susaikov's request: "Although the 41st Guard Division I was commanding was equipped with a large number of these weapons, unfortunately, there are no two new weapons in today's troops."

Susaikov came to the 27th Army this time just to send Lunev to office, not to know any new weapons. Since Sokov said that there are no troops now, he did not force them. After chatting for a few more words, he stood up and said goodbye.

After Susaikov left, Sameko asked Sokov in a low voice: "Comrade Commander, I saw a small number of new rockets and rocket launchers in the guard company commanded by Captain Seryosha. Why don't you let the front military committee members see it?"

"Comrade Commander, what's going on?" Lunev heard what Sameko said clearly and asked curiously: "Since your army has those two weapons, why not let General Susaikov see it?"

"Comrade Military Commissioner, you should remember that when I left the Sixth Army, I took away a small number of new rockets and rocket launchers. These equipment were on the road and saved my life. When we arrived here, the number left was only a handful of." Seeing Lunev and Sameko both looked puzzled, Sokov explained to the two: "If General Susaikov saw the new weapons, he would definitely ask me to hand him a batch and take back the Front Command for the commander to see. In this way, we would have lost the equipment in our hands. What should we do if we encounter a fierce battle next?"

Lunev expressed his understanding of Sokov's statement. After pausing for a moment, he asked carefully: "Comrade Commander, have you contacted Colonel Yakov? Did he say when can you equip your troops with a large amount of new rockets and bazooka?"

"Originally, with my relationship with Yasha, he would have no problem asking him to supply me with new rockets and rocket launchers immediately." Sokov said to Lunev with a wry smile: "But now my troops do not have any combat missions. If these two new weapons are suddenly equipped, it will definitely be envious of other troops. If this causes conflict, it would be bad. But Yasha told me that once a large-scale battle occurs, he will immediately supply us in large quantities."

Lunev asked: "Comrade Commander, do you think there will be a large-scale battle in a short period of time?"

"It's early May," Sokov said slowly. "Whether we or the enemy, after several months of hard fighting, we need a rest time. Therefore, I dare to assert that the Germans will not launch any offensive against our army before July."
