Chapter 28 - Desert Camp
When I woke up again, it should have been noon. We were no longer on the helicopter. I was lying on a folding bed with a felt blanket covered with it. I looked around and seemed to be in a tent.
Now that I wake up in an inexplicable place, I always feel uneasy and I worry about not falling into a place that tortures my body and mind like a shelter.
I walked out of the tent and it turned out that this was a camp in the desert. Wenna didn't rest and just guarded outside my tent.
"You're sleeping so hard that you can't wake up. Xiwu and Chaoyang, and the three of you will bring you here together." Wenna always looked at me with a smile on her face.
No?! Then I'm so embarrassed today!
There were many people in the camp wearing camouflage uniforms, not knowing what they were busy with. They did not have protective clothing, but they also brought equipment such as gas masks.
"Winna, you should also wear this mask. The air quality is really bad now."
"Another call me my name, it's rude." Wenna said, but her face was not angry. "For me, it's not very useful to wear these things now."
"Where is this? Who are these people?"
Wenna shook her head, "You ask Feng, he probably knows that they have been communicating just now."
Feng is the person in charge of the shelter, so there should be no problem dealing with these situations, so I don’t need to ask more questions.
"Winna, you said those spiders just now didn't seem to attack me. Is it because they can sense the Yuanren?"
"The Yuan people may be part of this, but I think the biggest reason is because of Xuan Yi."
"What's the relationship between Xuan Yi and me?"?"
"Winna, don't make a puzzle for me, tell me quickly~~"
"It's not time yet... When you are completely awakened, you will naturally understand all this relationship."
Wenna and I walked around the camp side by side. In the inconspicuous corner next to the camp, we found that there were several very simple sheds there, which were different from the tents we lived in.
"Don't get close to this place, this is the quarantine area!"
Before we got closer, someone rushed out to warn us.
"What are you isolating?" I asked him.
He pulled me to the other side of the shed, and from this angle, I saw a man lying on a simple bed built in the shed.
"This person fled from the east. He has been lucky enough to survive until now, but he was too affected by nuclear radiation, and his body has started to ulcerate from the inside. So we isolated these people, afraid that they would carry other bacteria or viruses, which would cause the entire camp to be infected."
The person in the shed coughed violently and sat up slowly. I saw his pale and sunken cheeks. He smiled at me weakly, with only a few teeth left in his mouth.
"Are there any survivors in this area?" I asked.
"Some, I found a lot of them. We organize search and rescue every day, but our staff is limited and we are a little... I really can't rescue..."
This man is from the desert camp. He is wearing a gas mask. I can't see his appearance clearly. I just think he is tall and almost 2 meters tall.
If there are still many survivors in this area, the existence of those spiders is undoubtedly a hidden danger. I am very worried. There are also the new animal No. 5 that fled, which must be caught quickly. If they are not caught in the short term, their second generation may be born!
"We can't contact the shelter now. I don't know if there is something wrong with our communication equipment or..." Feng walked over and said worriedly.
He was worried that something was wrong inside the shelter.
But the shelter is solid, what can be wrong there?
"Have you deal with the spider that surrounded us before?"
I asked the tall and strong man.
"Spider?" The strong man was puzzled, "Then I don't know. I've been staying in the camp before. The search operation last night was not something our group participated in."
"Laifu?Laifu?" the man shouted.
A puppy came out in response.
The man carefully picked up the puppy, and I saw a gas mask hanging on the puppy's face.
"Hahaha, this is what I did for him." This tall and macho man actually had such careful thoughts. Sure enough, he couldn't behave like a person.
The macho was holding a small dog in his arms and scratching the puppy's head gently. The picture was extremely harmonious.
I also wanted to touch the puppy, but before my hand touched it, the puppy started to whimper.
"Hmm? What's wrong with you?"
Both the man and I looked puzzled.
"Zhou Li! Zhou Li?!" Someone came over from the other end of the camp with this name shouted.
Zhou Li turned out to be the name of the man in front of him. The man put down the dog, and the puppy immediately rushed into other tents with his tail, looking extremely scared.
"I'll tell me, I'll go first. You'd better stay away from the quarantine area. If you hear it, it's not safe."
The man left after he said that.
"I told them about human-headed spiders and those grafted animals. They are gathering people now to see if they can find those things." Feng interrupted.
Where are we now? Which department are these people from?" I asked Feng.
"They said that this is the middle desert rescue camp, and it is of the same level as the outpost, and it is under the same control as the same place. Don't worry, it is safe here." Feng said.
I nodded and it's safe.
"I'll go and see how Zhao Kai is doing." Feng found Wen Na and me, and left after saying that.
Wenna and I stood on the edge of the camp, and the puppy was hiding in other tents and was still secretly looking at me. After I found it peeking, it buried its head in its claws, thinking that I would not see it.
"Hahaha" Wenna and I laughed together.
This is the most relaxing moment I have felt these days. At this moment, I don’t have to think about the problems they talk about my life experience. Don’t have to worry about my sister, don’t have to be careful, don’t have to be worried, just laugh out loud from the bottom of my heart.
"Look, it was afraid that I would peek at me. I thought I wouldn't see it if I covered my head."
The desert is desolate, which can easily make people feel like they are forever.
“It seems there is smoke over there.”
I followed the direction Wenna pointed and saw that in the desert at the end where I couldn't see it, there was a rolling smoke rising into the sky.
Others in the camp noticed it.
Their movement efficiency was much higher than that of the people in the shelter, and the two of them quickly drove a sand motorcycle with their equipment.
In this vast and bad situation, people's hearts spread outward, and I was inexplicably excited.
"I'll go too, I'll help you." I volunteered.
The two of them didn't think much about it, nodded and pointed at me several other sand motorcycles.
I was so excited that I had wanted to drive this kind of sand motorcycle for a long time! But I never had a chance.
"Can you drive it?" Wen Na looked worried.
"What's the problem? There is no traffic light here! Just step on the accelerator~" I signaled to Wen Na to come up too.
Wenna curled her lips, sat behind me, and wrapped her arms around my waist.
I slammed the accelerator and suddenly the yellow sand in the sky rose.
Stimulate!
"Xiwu! Do you want to come and have fun too!" I saw Xiwu smoking in the tent and greeted her to come and take a look. For some reason, she gave me a blank look and said coldly two words, "Don't go."
It’s really strange for the woman. She obviously ignored her own safety to save me and helped me attract those spiders. Why did she turn against me so quickly now... I don’t understand...
The sand motorcycle in front had already driven for a while. I shrugged, stepped on the accelerator again, and went to the place where the smoke was emitting...
