Chapter 168 The worst director

Speaking of movies, the two obviously have a common topic, and there are some connections between the two families. Although they belong to the east and west coasts, they are both Jewish, so they can naturally get closer. After chatting for a while, they gradually become familiar with each other. Duke occasionally says a few gossip news in the circle, which makes Erin Lauder's smile more sincere.

This woman, who was about the same age as him, was obviously very interested in the film industry. Then Duke took her into the party at her request and introduced Tom Hanks, Keanu Reeves and others.

"Keanu Reeves is not as cool as in the movie, a little decadent."

As he walked towards the edge of the lawn, Erin Lauder whispered some impression to Duke, "Tom Hanks looks like a good person than in the movie."

"Every actor has many faces," Duke responded.

Erin looked at Duke, "What about the director? My roommate in college was studying film production at New York University. She is also in Hollywood now. I heard some rumors about Hollywood."

Maybe she was talking very speculatively just now, and she had fewer concerns, "especially the rumors about the director."

"So, Erin." Duke did not answer positively, "In the Hollywood circle, more than 80% of rumors were finally proven to be true."

It seemed to be supporting Duke's words, a tall blonde woman came over from behind, with the obvious target of Duke.

“Hi, Duke.”

Charlize Theron, wearing a small green dress, walked over and said, "I haven't seen you yet, so you are here."

"Is this your friend?" She looked at Erin Lander and reached her right hand into Duke's arm, "Will you introduce it?"

He stopped the waiter passing by, and Duke took the opportunity to get the wine and quietly threw away Charlize Theron's hand. At such a formal dinner party, this was the place where the hostess could hold her, and he was not that stupid.

"This is Erin Lauder, from New York." Duke briefly introduced, "This is a contracted actor under ICM where Charlize Theron is located."

Charlize Theron kicked off his former agent as early as last year and transferred to ICM.

Erin Lauder changed into a formulaic smile, nodded to Charlize Theron, and said to Duke, "I won't disturb you anymore, I'll go find Aunt Lea."

"How did you come?" Duke looked at Charlize.

He did not invite her or other women, but the cannon friends were cannon friends, and he would not be stupid enough to invite them to his own house to attend such parties.

"The agent helped." Charlize looked at the sea in the distance, "When did you move? Why didn't you notify me?"

"I'll call you if you have time."

Duke patted her hand and met Clark Muller, an executive of Warner Bros., who was walking over.

Charlize looked at her tall back and threw the cup in her hand on the grass. During the past few meetings, she mentioned her boyfriend and girlfriend several times, but Duke always distracted the topic. Even if she was slow, she could see clearly. The other party had no interest in talking about feelings at all, but just regarded her as a temporary bedmate.

Her temper was not very good. She suddenly had the urge to overturn the oak table next to her, but after taking a few deep breaths, she still endured it.

After all, she entered a number of agency companies in Hollywood and received the most professional actor training without paying too much. She could get some small roles with cameras through the company...

All of these come from each other, just like the modeling circle I have been in, this is just the most common way to get what you need.

On the other hand, Duke is talking to Clark Muller, who is Jeff Robinoff's most important assistant.

"Jeff said that Warner is the most correct decision he has made to work with you." He smiled at Duke, "He really wants to maintain this kind of cooperation forever!"

"I want to do it too." Duke smiled the same way, "Warner is a great partner!"

Even so, both sides are actually very clear that in Hollywood, such cooperation will break down at any time, and a negotiation with serious differences in interests is enough to lead both sides in different directions.

Clark has participated in several recent high-level meetings of Warner Bros. Warner has been discussing how to completely tie Duke Rosenberg to his chariot and put forward some targeted measures.

"Don't you know if you're interested in investing in Warner?"

Seeing Duke's surprised look at him, Clark Mueller explained, "At this time next year, Warner Bros. plans to raise a share expansion. Jeff wants to ask what you mean."

"Sharing expansion financing?"

Duke still looks the same, without a clear statement, but being able to become one of the shareholders of the six major companies will have a certain temptation to anyone in Hollywood, and he is no exception.

But, until next year? Warner is obviously throwing bait.

In this world, he is far more than him who can throw bait. Warner obviously wants to hold his appetite first. As long as he is interested, the next film will inevitably continue to work with Warner. If "Save Private Ryan" fails and Warner turns around and kicks him out, who will admit the promise given in such a private occasion?

Even with capital, this Hollywood road will still be full of invisible traps. In this circle, no one will selflessly give up their own interests to help others. If they fall into the trap, some people may only watch, but more people will definitely choose to throw stones inside.

After Duke said he needed to think about it, Clark Muller left, and obviously Warner was not as urgent as he said.

Then, Duke met Tim Fisher of Fox again. The old acquaintance was a little frowning. He repeatedly tested Duke's confidence in "Save Private Ryan" and mentioned several times that he wanted to recover the cost as soon as possible. Fox's liquidity obviously encountered problems.

Although the other party did not mention it, Duke understood after a little consideration. Some time ago, the media hyped that James Cameron built a huge model ship in Baja California. With this nature, he would definitely follow the producers to ask for additional investment. Fox and Paramount, who invested huge amounts of money, had to increase their investment in order to invest in advance.

I remember a Fox executive once said this - James Cameron forced them to almost sell their butts.

Of course, they almost forced the tyrant on the set to commit suicide, and Cameron even showed the blade at a press conference, claiming that if the project ended up failing, he would use the blade…

The party ended until around 10 o'clock. The guests were sent away and the garden was handed over to the butler and the party company. Duke and the few people who stayed returned to the living room.

Duke poured a glass of clear water for his mother, "Mom, you can live here tonight."

He specially prepared a room for his mother.

Turning to look at the single sofa, "I'll have someone send Erin back to the hotel."

"Okay, I'm going to have something to talk to you."

Mrs. Leah walked over and whispered a few words to Erin Lauder. Duke called the butler and asked him to find someone to take Erin Lauder back to the hotel in Beverly Hills.

After struggling for more than ten minutes, only Mrs. Duke and Lea were left in the living room. They sat on two single sofas and slowly drank the water in their own cups.

"Mom, what's the matter?" Duke asked lowered his cup.

Mrs. Leah looked at Duke opposite and sighed softly. He really made her very proud, but in some aspects...

Shaking his head, Mrs. Leah stopped thinking about this anymore. After all, Duke was not married and had no girlfriend. A considerable number of people in this country had a chaotic life when they were young.

"I will come to live here in the future when I go back to Los Angeles." Mrs. Leah warned Duke, "Don't make this mess."

Duke smiled embarrassedly and asked in confusion, "Go back to Los Angeles?"

"From next month, Santa Fia will officially move to New York." Mrs. Leah explained briefly, "Santa Fia's business is closely related to the fashion industry, and moving to New York is more convenient. I plan to settle in New York."

"Mom..." Duke frowned.

"I will come to see you often." Mrs. Leah shook her head, obviously not changing her mind, "If you have time, you can also see me."

“Next week I’ll have someone bring my supplies here in Santa Monica.”

As she said that, she stood up and walked towards the stairs, Duke followed, "Mom..."

Mrs. Leah turned around and smiled, "Dear, you are my greatest pride in my life."

"Mom..." Duke walked over and hugged his mother, "You are also my pride."

If older people do not have goals and motivation, they often get older very quickly. The biggest motivation for their mothers in the past twenty years is career. Duke knows that he can't stop his mother, nor does he mean to stop him. Perhaps the mother who is constantly successful in her career is like the mother who sees him succeeding, that is the happiest moment.

Life always goes on. After a short weekend, Duke sent his mother and Erin Lauder on a flight to New York and once again devoted himself to the post-production of "Save Private Ryan". Due to the arrival of the Oscars, Hollywood was not at peace throughout March, especially after the Oscar results came out.

Tom Hanks won the Best Actor for the rest of the time, becoming the second person in Oscar history to achieve this. "Forrest Gump" won as a great victory as everyone expected, and the nine-nominated "Shawshank Redemption" once again became a tragic background, arousing sympathy from countless media and audiences, and was even named "Best in Film History".

The production and distributor also took advantage of the opportunity to promote the film and once again launched the film into theaters, hoping to regain the cost. However, what awaited them was still a terrible box office result, which was destined to be unsuitable for theaters.

Another thing that caused the media to hype is that last year's North American and global box office champion, the director of "Day", which ranked second in total box office in film history, was awarded the title of "Explosion Maniac and Duke of Destruction by media fans, unfortunately won the award of "King Mei's worst director, and "Day" also won the award of last year's worst film.
