Chapter 77 Army Organization (1)

After Yuan Shikai left, the East China Government also ordered the Military Commission to immediately organize the new army and arrange the border troops as soon as possible.

At the beginning of the year, the Military Commission had already approved the Huaiyuan Court and decided to establish a division-level organization. But it turned out that it was just a matter of simply combining the three regiments, and then paired them with one or two auxiliary regiments and the division-level regiment battalion to form a division.

However, the battalion-level commanders at all levels reported to the Army Department that the "division" is the basic independent combat unit of the modern army, and basically all the branches of each army must be equipped with various auxiliary support firepower. However, the current organization of the People's Army has great shortcomings or unreasonable aspects in the support firepower of troops at all levels. This is mainly because at the beginning of its establishment, the weapons of the People's Army were basically seized; after occupying Qingdao, the German Qingdao soldiers were confiscated. The factory has the ability to produce weapons on its own, but the Qingdao Arsenal itself has not been built, and it can only be equipped with small and medium-caliber shells. The output is very limited and cannot supply the People's Army's combat needs. Therefore, in the later stage, the time traveler purchased a batch of weapons and ammunition from Zhang Zhidong, which was enough to avoid strength. In this case, the People's Army could only equip whatever weapons it had, and there was no condition to pick up the number of weapons.

The conditions are different now. The equipment purchased from Germany has been in place. The expansion project of Qingdao Arsenal has been completed. It has been enough to produce most weapons. Some new weapons have also been developed and developed, and the production capacity has been greatly improved. The People's Army has the conditions to choose weapons according to its own needs.

Because the navy has completed the organization of fleets at all levels based on the existing warship conditions, and has basically reached the organization level of modern navy, the army cannot lag behind. Many battalion-level commanders have suggested to the Army Department that it is better to take this opportunity to reorganize the army and allow the supporting firepower and weapons of the troops at all levels to be fully equipped, which can further improve the combat effectiveness of the People's Army.

The Military Commission reflected the opinions of the Army Department to the Executive Yuan, and Xia Bohai also formally issued the Chairman's Order to formally approve the order to reorganize the Army. However, in this way, the workload of the Army's organization has also increased sharply, because the comprehensive reorganization of the army is not something that a few people can do well by sitting in the office. It requires extensive consultation of combat commanders at all levels, because they are commanders with practical experience, and only they know what weapons they need for combat troops.

Luo Yue originally brought his troops back to Qingdao to prepare for division-level combat units and then promoted to regiment commander, but the reorganization plan has been delayed, so Luo Yue stayed in Qingdao. However, his troops were the ace force of the People's Army and had rich combat experience. Therefore, he was temporarily recruited by the Army Department and became an advisor for military adaptation. Luo Yue also put forward many useful opinions based on his own experience.

Of course, the Army Department would not only seek the opinions of Luo Yue alone, so the Army Department recruited several officers at all levels to return to Jingdao to participate in the discussion. A total of 12 officers were recruited, including 4 regiment commanders, 6 battalion commanders and 2 company commanders. Of course, they were all time travel soldiers, and they were all middle and grassroots officers with considerable practical experience.

Although most of the company-level officers in the People's Army are now served by local soldiers, the time-travel soldiers are rarely considered as company commanders because they cannot find people for the time being, or the deputy company commander needs to be led for a while before they can stay temporarily, whether in terms of military quality, practical experience, or understanding of modern warfare, local soldiers are far from comparable to time-travel soldiers, and time-travel soldiers are also sold step by step from the grassroots level, knowing the needs of grassroots soldiers, so this time no local officers were recruited.

If you want to discuss the organization of the army, you must first understand what weapons can be produced in Qingdao Arsenal and how well it is. From the officers who have just been recruited back to Qingdao, it requires a comprehensive understanding. So after all the personnel arrived, Zhu Yaping, the Minister of the Army Department, took everyone to visit the Qingdao Arsenal.

The Qingdao Arsenal is now huge in scale, with two factories and one production base, with a total of 385 machines and equipment. The main factory in Qingdao is located in the suburbs of the city, covering an area of 45 acres. It is divided into 4 major departments: firearms, artillery, auxiliary and accessories, 14 production workshops, 8 warehouses, 12 house buildings, 18 crossers and 427 workers. They are also equipped with 5 heavy-load trucks and 3 light trucks, mainly responsible for the production of various firearms, artillery spare parts, assembly, and weapon research and development. In addition, there is a branch factory in the military port, which is much smaller in size, only 6 acres in the area, with 6 crossers and 82 workers, mainly responsible for the maintenance, repair, replacement of ship-based weapons.

There is also a large production base outside the Qingdao Arsenal, covering an area of more than 6,000 mu, of which the production area is 40 mu, with a total of 20 traversers and 514 workers. There is also a railway, mainly producing various *, bullets, shells, *, etc., and storing finished products and raw materials, as well as weapons testing.

Qingdao Arsenal is now the largest enterprise with the largest scale, the most personnel, and the most travelers. The director of Qingdao Arsenal is Tang Nengzhi. It turned out that he was the leader of the gun team of the Changbaishan ship. Although the Changbaishan ship is not a surface combat ship, it is also equipped with a PJ26 single-barrel 76mm naval gun, which is the same as the gun guns of the Yueyang ship and the Sanya ships. There are also 4 AK-630 30mm rapid-fire guns, which are mainly used for close-range air defense and self-defense. Therefore, the gun team is also a relatively important department on the Changbai ship. The gun team must have a deep understanding of the structural principles of the naval gun, which is also an important factor for Tang Nengzhi to become the director of the Qingdao Arsenal.

The visit was of course in the main factory area near Qingdao. When the inspection team arrived at the arsenal, they were also warmly welcomed, and the factory director Tang Nengzhi was personally responsible for receiving them.

Since Tang Nengzhi received a notice from the Army Department in advance and had already been prepared, he took the inspection team to the shooting range after being polite. This place is not only spacious, so that the inspection team can view samples of various weapons, but also try it by hand. Of course, it can only test the weapons in the firearms, and the cannon cannot be tested.

Tang Nengzhi first introduced the weapons in the firearms to the inspection team. The first weapon was a standard rifle that was originally defined, officially named the Type 01 rifle, which is actually an imitation * rifle.

The People's Army now uses three main types of rifles. One is the Russian-made Mosinnagan m1891 rifle, which currently has about 20,000; the second is the Hanyang-made Type 88 rifle, which has about 16,000; the third is the * type rifle, which currently has about 23,000, of which about 12,000 were produced in the Qingdao Arsenal.

However, the Type 01 rifle has made certain improvements to the original * rifle, and the main improvements are three aspects:

First, the caliber was changed from 7.92 mm to 7.62 mm, which was mainly in line with the habits of time and space, because in the old time and space, the 7.62 mm caliber rifle was an internationally accepted standard. The famous sharpshooter AK-47 adopted this lip shape, and the Type 56* and Type 81 automatic rifles equipped in China in the early days also adopted this lip shape. Before the crossing, the 5.62 mm caliber and the 5.8 mm caliber of the Type 95 automatic rifle were both standard calibers of Chinese firearms. The latter was mainly used in class automatic rifles, squad machine guns, and squad sniper rifles; while the former, in addition to a small number of Type 81 automatic rifles that have not yet been replaced, is mainly used in various vehicle-mounted light machine guns, tank coaxial machine guns and general machine guns.

Now all the two combat vehicles of the Crossing World War, the MWC, the machine guns equipped on the military speedboats, and a small number of general-purpose machine guns that travel through the crossing are all 7.62 mm caliber. Moreover, the Russian-made Mosinnagan m1891 rifle is also 7.62 mm caliber, so the caliber of the Type 01 rifle is of great significance to reduce costs and unify standards. Under extreme conditions, the original * rifle can use 7.62 mm bullets, but it is impossible for the Mosinnagan m1891 rifle to use 7.92 mm bullets.

The second is to reduce the length of the entire gun from 1250 mm to 1150 mm, shortening by 100 mm. The main purpose is to shorten the original barrel 740 mm by 640 mm, and change the strap ring to the side of the gun body for easy portability.

Such improvements are, on the one hand, because the length of the *-type rifle was designed based on Europeans, mainly German bodies, and Chinese soldiers were obviously shorter than German soldiers, so the size was shorter, which was more in line with the use habits of Chinese soldiers. Moreover, according to the experience of old time and space, because the body of the *-type rifle was too long, it was inconvenient to use and carry in trench warfare. In fact, during the Second World War in the old time and space, the *-type *-type *g rifle used by the German army shortened the full length to 1,100 mm; in addition, shortening the barrel was also conducive to reducing costs.

Of course, after the length of the rifle is shortened, it will be obvious that when the soldiers fight for bayonets. The Type 30 rifle equipped by the Japanese Army, the future main opponent of the East China government, has a total length of 1,280 mm, which is 30 mm longer than the original * rifle. In this way, when the two sides meet on the battlefield and engage in hand-to-hand combat, it will definitely be detrimental to the People's Army. The solution is to lengthen the size of the bayonet. The length of the bayonet is 455 mm, while the bayonet of the Japanese Type 30 rifle is 400 mm, which can also make up for the shortcomings of the Type 01 rifle to a certain extent. In addition, such a bayonet can also be regarded as a sword envoy under necessary conditions.

The third is to change the bolt handle from a straight type to a down-bend type. This modification can make the bolt move more comfortable and convenient. For example, on a *-type rifle with a gun scope installed, if a straight pull handle is used, it will touch the gun scope frame, while the bent pull handle will not.
