Chapter 45 Missiles and Cannonballs (Part 2)

The proposition of using shells as missiles seems absurd, but technically, it is completely feasible.

The artillery caliber of this era is much larger than that of later generations. For example, the 05mm caliber and 4mm caliber shells are actually similar to the type of missiles in later generations. For example, the Eagle Strike 8 missile has a bullet diameter of 60mm, and the Haihongqi 7 missiles equipped with the Xiangyang ship and Huaihua ships have a bullet diameter of only 156mm. There is no difference between the shape, shells and missiles.

In this era, the initial speed of artillery is generally 700-750 meters/sec, which is about .-. Mach, with an unend speed of about 500-550 meters/sec, which is about 1.5-1.6 Mach, while the Eagle Strike 8 is a subsonic anti-ship missile, which is about 1. Mach; while the speed of a general supersonic missile is Mach, which is about -4 Mach, so it is not far from the speed. The artillery's ballistics are relatively flat, and it can also be regarded as a missile flying over the sea. In this way, it is theoretically completely acceptable to regard the large-caliber artillery shells of this era as missiles.

Of course, there are also obvious differences between the two. Generally, the missiles are launched at a distance, at least over a hundred miles, while the surveillance range of phased array radar is very wide, reaching 400 to 500 kilometers. Therefore, missiles can be discovered in advance, and enough time for the fleet's anti-missile; and now the distance between the two sides is only about ten kilometers. In this era, the speed of the shells is about 15-0 seconds after flying, so there is not much anti-missile time left for the fleet.

However, generally speaking, the air defense and anti-missile system of modern air defense warships is divided into four levels, and the Kunming ship is a typical example:

The first layer is long-range air defense, with a distance of 40-150 kilometers, which is even further away; it is completed by Haihongqi 9, and generally requires intercepting 50 to 60% of missiles;

The second layer is medium-range air defense, with a distance of 0-40 kilometers, completed by Haihongqi 16, and then intercepted 50 to 60% of the remaining missiles;

The third layer is short-range air defense, with a distance of 5-15 kilometers, and is completed by Haihongqi 10 to intercept the remaining missiles after the first two layers of air defense;

The fourth floor is close-range defense, with a distance of less than 5 kilometers, and is completed by close-defense guns to intercept the last fish that escapes the net;

To intercept artillery shells at a distance of about ten kilometers, the first two-layer air defense and anti-missile system is obviously not used, and can only rely on the second-layer air defense and anti-missile system, which mainly focuses on close-range defense. Each warship passing through the fleet is equipped with close-range guns with extremely fast firing speeds, which intercept missiles at close range with dense firepower.

The Kunming ship was equipped with an H/PJ-7 7-barrel 0mm air defense gun (referred to as 70 near-defense gun for short), with a rate of fire: 100-5800 rounds/minute, and a range: 500 meters against missiles and 500 meters against aircraft.

Since the Yueyang ship and the Sanya ship are only equipped with Haihongqi 16 medium-range air defense missiles and are not equipped with long-range and short-range air defense missiles, the close-defense weapon is the more powerful H/pj-11 11-tube 0mm naval gun, which can lock more than 40 targets at a time, and the maximum firepower can reach 11,000 rounds per minute. It is also equipped with radar, optical, and infrared tracing systems. Under the control of the software, it can automatically shoot at incoming targets, forming the last line of defense of the ship. In the crossing fleet, it can be used as the main force of close-range defense.

Due to the long age of the ship and the weapons of the Huaihua ship, the Xiangyang ship was relatively backward, and it was only equipped with Haihongqi 7 short-range air defense missiles. The close-defense weapon was four 76f type dual-mounted 7mm6-diameter fast cannons, with a firing rate of 800 rounds per minute. Although it was not as good as the close-defense cannons on the Kunming ship, Yueyang ship, and Sanya ships, it also had good close-defense capabilities. Moreover, even the Changbaishan ship was equipped with four AK-60 6-barrel 0mm air defense cannons.

To sum up the six ships, coupled with the phased array radar monitoring of the Kunming ship, the close defense capability of the entire crossing fleet is still quite considerable. Considering that the artillery of the Eight-Nation Alliance Fleet is basically impossible to aim and shoot at this time, the actual probability of being able to hit the crossing fleet is extremely low. At most, only one or two shells can hit the crossing fleet. Therefore, with the current close defense capability of the crossing fleet, it is completely possible to intercept it.
