The design of Hengyang 56804 ship Hudong May 4, 2007) is also the same as the major Western vertical launch systems such as the US MK-41, French Sylver, etc.

The Hongqi-16 air defense missile has strong multi-target attack capabilities. A firepower launch unit can track 8 targets at the same time and attack 4 of them. And the types of targets it can attack are numerous, from high-altitude aircraft to low-altitude cruise missiles, and even precisely guided weapons thrown by aircraft. The Hongqi-16 air defense missile can effectively fight against. To a large extent, the Hongqi-16 air defense missile can also fight against the "wild weasel" air defense suppression attack launched by enemy air forces.

Main gun design

In terms of main guns, the 054a did not continue to use the 052b/c and 054 Chinese-made H/pj-87 single-barrel 100mm naval gun, but instead adopted a Chinese-made PJ26 single-barrel 76mm stealth naval gun, which can be regarded as the Chinese version of the Russian AK-176m 76mm naval gun. In order to seek a new medium caliber naval gun to replace the original old dual-mounted 57mm naval gun, the Chinese Navy was as early as 199

In four years, it was decided to introduce the technology of the AK-176m and its RFCCSLASK firing control system from Russia (at the same time, a small number of original A-176m naval guns were purchased for the replacement of some small ships in China, such as the No. 5 ship of the "Red Arrow" class missile speedboat); in 2003, the localization operation was completed by the Zhengzhou Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (i.e. Zhengzhou 713 Research Institute) and became the new generation of standard medium-caliber naval guns of the Chinese Navy.

Ship and electrical design

The main mast and chimney mast of 054a are equipped with a Chinese-made roof 3D air-to-air search radar, replacing the 360 radar originally installed at this position of the 054 type. China named this domestic version of the Seahawk S/C (seaeagles/c) radar. The roof radar has been used in many other new-generation Chinese ships such as 052b, 051c, modern-class missile destroyers, etc., and can be called the quasi-standard air-to-air search radar for China's new-generation fleet.

Compared with the original Russian roof, the Seahawk s/c seems to adopt improved antenna technology, with a relatively simple appearance, omitting a small strip antenna at the top of the original roof, and the mechanical structure of the antenna has also changed. The top of the bridge of the 054a is equipped with a set of Chinese-made Russian mineral-me fire-controlled radar system, replacing the 344 fire-controlled radar originally used by the 054. It can provide target calibration and mid-way data updates for the Eagle Strike-83 anti-ship missile on the ship.

The top of the rear mast still maintains a 364 x-band short-range sea/air search tracking radar with a ball cover. The platform in front of the main mast is equipped with an lr-66 naval gun firing radar for guiding 76mm naval guns. The deck below the lr-66 is also equipped with a GDG-775 photoelectric radio control instrument, integrating an infrared thermal imager, a ccd camera and a laser rangefinder, which can also be used for guide control 76

The mm naval gun. There is a satellite communication antenna imitated from the snit240 above the hangar, replacing the two tactical satellite communication antennas of 054. In terms of sonar, the configuration of 054 is the same as that of 054. The head of the ship is equipped with a 307 main/passive sonar system (located in the ball guard of the head of the ship), and a 206 drag array sonar is also installed at the tail of the ship, in addition to the 064 communication sonar and the 723 sonar environmental monitoring equipment of the ship.

Other designs

The 054a replaced the original 054's pj-13 (ak-630) 30mm rapid-fire gun with the 730 30mm near-force weapon system standardized at the beginning of this century. The two 730 models were installed on both sides of the chimney. The electronic warfare system of 054a is roughly the same as that of 054, but the two jamming bomb launchers were changed to the 726-4a configuration, each with 24 launch tubes (divided into four layers, one layer added to the original 726-4).

Service dynamics

Escort the Gulf of Aden

In 2008, in view of the increasing rampant piracy activities in Somali, the United Nations Security Council adopted resolutions 1816 and 1838 on 2 June and 20 October 2008, respectively, allowing foreign ships to enter the Somali waters to hunt pirates and use the necessary methods to combat pirates operating in international waters.

On April 2, 2009, China's second batch of escort formations set out in the Somali waters, including the Huangshan Frigate of the Type 054a, and the Type 054a has since become a frequent visitor to the Somali escort formation. The 054a's moderate tonnage, sufficient equipment, and good fuel consumption and economy of the diesel main engine make it an ideal ship for Somali escort missions.

Escort the Mediterranean

As a permanent member of the United Nations, China, in order to ensure the smooth destruction of weapons of the Syrian Chemical Yancheng ship and the Russian Navy Kirov-class cruiser, create favorable conditions for the political settlement of the Syrian issue, and implement the UN Security Council resolution 2118 and the decisions of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons on the Destruction of Chemical Weapons in December 2013, China decided to send the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy to participate in the escort of chemical weapons in Syria.

On December 19, 2013, the United Nations Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons announced that Norway and Denmark transport ships and naval frigates would transport chemical weapons to a port in Italy via the Mediterranean Sea. China and Russia provided sea escorts, and finally transported them to international waters by the US Navy with special equipment.

The Yancheng ship set sail from the port of Limassol, Cyprus at 2 a.m. local time on January 7, 2014, rushed to the Syrian assembly point and formed an escort formation with ships such as Russia, Denmark, and Nordic. Previously, the Yancheng ship also sent personnel to the Danish-Nordic joint formation command ship, the Danish "Asbourne Snell" combat support ship, participated in the tactical action planning meeting for the escort of chemical weapons in Syria, and exchanged views with all parties on related tactical details such as communications, security regulations, and emergency response.

On the afternoon of January 7, 2014, the Yancheng ship safely escorted the merchant ship transporting the first batch of Syrian chemical weapons to the designated sea area. The Chinese ship was successfully completed in the first batch of Syrian chemical weapons maritime escort missions.

At 15:35 local time on May 2014, Denmark transport ships berthed at the port of Latakia, Syria and began to load the seventh batch of chemical weapons. The escort ships of all parties in the mission patrol and alert in the pre-demarcated waters. After 2 hours and 30 minutes, the Danish transport ship completed the loading work and left the port. The Yancheng ship and the escort ships of Russia, Denmark, and Nordic countries began to escort. At 18:56 local time on May 5, under the joint escort of the Chinese, Russia, Denmark, and Nordic ships, the Danish transport ship responsible for transporting Syrian chemical weapons safely sailed out of the Syrian territorial waters. At this point, the Chinese Navy Yancheng ship successfully completed the seventh and last Syrian chemical weapons sea escort mission and will return to the Gulf of Aden.

On the morning of March 8, 2014 local time, the Chinese Navy Yancheng ship and the Syrian Chemical Weapon Marine Escort Replacement Force Huangshan ship met in the Mediterranean and held a mission handover ceremony on the Yancheng ship. According to the naval order, the Huangshan ship replaced the Yancheng ship and officially took on the Syrian Chemical Weapon Marine Escort mission. At 17:15 local time on March 9, under the joint escort of China, Russia, Denmark, Norwegian transport ship responsible for transporting Syrian chemical weapons safely sailed out of Syrian territorial waters. At this point, the Chinese Navy Huangshan ship successfully completed the eighth batch of Syrian chemical weapons sea escort missions, which is also the first batch of Syrian chemical weapons sea escort missions completed after the Huangshan ship replaced the Yancheng ship.

At around 12:30 local time on March 14, 2014, the Chinese, Russian, Danish-North Korean ship fleet and Danish-North Korean transport ships entered the Syrian territorial waters one after another. The ship immediately entered the first-level combat preparations. On the ship's fore deck and take-off and landing platform, the chemical defense team carried out drills for designated monitoring, air reconnaissance, water quality tests and other subjects in combination with the task process, and conducted practical training on some new reconnaissance equipment. In the conference room, Professor Wang Yongan, a chemical defense medicine expert, combined with his rich work experience, organized a medical security team to carry out chemical defense drug use training on site. At 17:45 local time on March 14, 2014, under the joint escort of China, Russia, Danish, and Noble, the Danish-North Korean transport ship was responsible for transporting Syrian chemical weapons, and the Noble-North Korean transport ship safely sailed out of the Syrian territorial waters. At this point, the Chinese Navy's Huangshan ship successfully completed the ninth batch of Syrian chemical weapons sea escort missions.

Overall evaluation

The Type 054a frigate is a very outstanding frigate. Overall, the Type 054a frigate has a simple configuration and a balanced air defense/anti-ship/anti-submarine configuration, which is a very standard design. Although the technical level of the Type 054a frigate and the weapon assembly is not the top-level configuration, it has achieved excellent multi-purpose capabilities at a relatively low cost. The ship is not only equipped with advanced regional air defense missiles and long-range anti-ship missiles, but also has the advantages of long range, high reliability and easy mass production.

In terms of quantity, the 054a will become the backbone of China's new generation fleet, and its airworthiness and combat capabilities are better than the brigade-class destroyers that were the main force of the Chinese Navy in the past. Since its service, the 054a type has actively participated in long-distance exercises, Somalia anti-pirates and other activities, and has accumulated considerable experience in ocean-going operation for the Chinese Navy.

With the service of China's new generation of destroyers and aircraft carriers, the Type 054a frigate can serve as a good auxiliary role in the aircraft carrier group and is an important force for the Chinese Navy to move towards the deep blue.
