1012: A year later

The morning sun shone into the bedroom through the gaps in the curtains. Link was awakened by the dazzling sunlight, so he opened his eyes hazy.

He sighed, turned his head and looked beside him, and found his fiancée sleeping soundly.

So Link tiptoed up and went to the bathroom to wash up, and planned to prepare for the morning for Rachel.

Outside the kitchen window, the sun is bright and the wind is bright. The lake in the backyard is wafting because of the breeze.

Seeing this scene, Link was stunned.

All of this seems to be so similar to last summer, or even exactly the same!

He hurriedly took out his cell phone and looked at it, then shook his head slightly.

He didn't dream, he didn't wake up and went back to the summer when the dynasty was established last year.

The year on the phone is 2016.

Everything that happened this year is true...

That's right, it's been a year. It's been a year since the Grizzlies established the dynasty in 2015.

In less than a month, Link will celebrate his 28th birthday.

From the age of 22 to the age of 28, Link has been a professional player for 6 years without realizing it.

He couldn't help but look at himself in the mirror. Although he was not old at the age of 28, he did look a little older than he was when he was young.

And now he is no longer a young player in the league.

Link shook his head, time passed faster than he thought.

The last time I experienced such a morning, it seemed like I was yesterday. I used to think of myself as I was going to be in the third year, but it seemed to be a very distant thing.

But now, everything is close.

Link took two eggs out of the refrigerator, heated them up and started making breakfast.

While frying the eggs, Link recalled scenes of the past year.

Time flies so fast that he doesn't have the time to slowly savor it like today.

This year was not a very smooth year for the Grizzlies and Link.

Last summer, the Grizzlies lost a lot in the free agent market. On the other hand, the Grizzlies' biggest opponents were strengthened to varying degrees.

So, the Grizzlies started their new season without being favored.

This year, Marc Gasol was already 31 years old, and he finally passed the age he was called "young".

"Big Black Bear" Randolph is 35 years old. This childish ghost who stuffed popcorn into Link's car six years ago has come to the end of his career.

Vince Carter is 39 years old and everyone is discussing whether this will be his last season.

Tony Allen is 34 years old, and you can clearly see him being a little helpless when defending the young men over 10 years younger than him on the basketball court.

The former "Little Ai" has also reached the age of 32. His dunks have become less and less. His average score in the playoffs and regular seasons has also dropped to single digits.

In contrast to the aging of the lineup, the Grizzlies' fresh blood youth.

In the main rotation, Harrell, Jokic, Richardson and Dinwiddie are all first-year rookies. Although Jokic and Dinwiddie are strictly second-years, they are officially playing NBA in the first year.

With so many rookie players in a team entering the main rotation, this is usually a matter of rebuilding the team's talents.

Therefore, no one is optimistic about the Grizzlies' season. After three consecutive championships, everyone naturally thinks that it is time for the Grizzlies to die.

After the regular season started, the Golden State Warriors, who joined Durant, became the former Grizzlies.

They fought all sides in the league and went all out.

The 24-game winning streak at the start broke the record for the longest winning streak in the league set by the Grizzlies in the 13-14 season.

He has no consecutive defeats in a single season and has become the second team to achieve this achievement after continuing the Grizzlies.

He has not lost to the same team more than once in a single season, and it is also the first case after the Grizzlies.

The first away win in a single season, the second fastest locked in the playoff team in history, and the number of three-pointers in a single season hit 1077, the Warriors tied the Grizzlies' record for 74 wins in a single season, tied with the Grizzlies' first in history.

No matter from any perspective, the Warriors have the shadow of the Grizzlies back then. In the words of Bill Simmons, "They are an overly powerful team!"

What about the Grizzlies? The Grizzlies won't even be able to enter the playoffs this year. But their 58-win record in a single season is naturally far from the Warriors' 74-win results.

This is also the first time in four years that the Grizzlies won more than 60 games in a single season!

In this regular season, the Grizzlies did expose some problems of decline in strength. But what really defeated them was not the strength of the lineup, but the injuries!

If last season, the Grizzlies had fallen into the curse of injury. Then this season, they were directly involved in purgatory caused by injuries.

Gasol has only played 52 games this season. On February 10, 2016, he announced an indefinite quit due to a fracture of his right foot. On February 24, the Grizzlies had no choice but to announce that Gasol Jr. had undergone foot surgery and would miss all remaining games in the season.

Conley was not much better, and only played 56 games, with the second lowest appearance rate in his career. Also in February 2016, Conley underwent left heel surgery to remove a protruding small bone and was reimbursed for the season.

The remaining veterans, Randolph, played 68 games, Iguodala, 65 games, Tony Allen, 64 games, and Carter, all three of them were playing and stopping, with minor injuries.

This season, the Grizzlies have played for the team in total! Most of them are firefighters who have played less than 15 times.

It can be seen how serious the Grizzlies' injury problems are.

However, not every time the Grizzlies sign a firefighter, they can sign in a guy like Whiteside.

In the end, Link could only enter the playoffs as the third in the West with a bunch of young young men, a bunch of old bones and a bunch of mercenaries.

In the first two rounds, the Grizzlies had a very difficult game. They first eliminated the Trail Blazers 4-2, and then defeated the second in the Western Conference this year's Western Conference through a tiebreak battle. The Spurs, who have a "double German combination", won the championship.

After two rounds of the series, Link averaged 35.4 points per game! It can be said that he pushed the Grizzlies to the Western Conference Finals with his own strength.

In the Western Conference Finals, the Grizzlies met the almost invincible Warriors this season.

In the end, Kevin Durant finally completed his revenge as he wished. He finally defeated Link and experienced the taste of victory.

4-2, clean and neat, the Warriors eliminated the Grizzlies. For the first time in four years, the Western Conference team has passed the Grizzlies!

For most people, it is a miracle that Link can reach this point, and he has proved himself.

If anyone else was leading the Grizzlies this year, it wouldn't be better than him. Last year, Westbrook led the Thunder in a better condition, but he didn't even make the playoffs.

But Link didn't think there was anything to be happy about. Losing to the Warriors and to Durant was the thing that Link was most reluctant to face.

This year, the regular season MVP was taken away by Durant who won 74. The best defensive player belonged to Draymond Green Link, except for a double team, with no hands.

Although Link had long thought that the Grizzlies might fail, when failure really came, this extremely competitive guy, the guy who held three championship rings, and the guy who was used to dominating others, was extremely angry.

Link closed his eyes, his mind was filled with the appearance of three championship rings, and the sounds behind them.

"The competition is over! The Memphis Grizzlies, who participated in the finals for the first time in team history, won the NBA championship. They are the championship! They are the biggest dark horses! Ladies and gentlemen, a new era is here to begin!"

"LeBron kneeled on one knee, the game ended! Link led his team to successfully defend this supreme honor in Miami! 4-0, they swept and won, they are the king of the world!"

"Link sat on the ground, Mike Conley threw the basketball into the air, the electronic beeping sounded, it was over, it was over! The Grizzlies won, not once, not twice, but three times! They were the championships, they established their dynasty and their golden age! Long live the Memphis Grizzlies, Long live Link!"

The sounds gradually became smaller and gradually moved away until they disappeared from Link's mind.

At this moment, Link suddenly smelled a burnt smell.

He quickly opened his eyes and saw that the egg was so muddy...

Link shook his head and poured the completely blackened egg into the trash can.

He knew that those three champions had become the past forever.

Next, the Warriors and the Cavaliers fought in the finals. And he fryed eggs in his own kitchen...

The golden age of the Grizzlies has ended. It was over two days ago at the Oracle Arena.

Now, Link has only two options.

Or, completely sink into the world, become a hero in people's memory, embrace the honors they already have with peace of mind, and live in the past forever.

Or, as he told Pera last year, find a way to build a new golden age and get back everything that belongs to the Grizzlies.

Even if, this is so difficult that it is almost impossible to complete. Even if, all efforts are likely to fail.

Link shook his head. No matter which path he chose, he will definitely be extremely busy this summer.
