Chapter 10 Rescue
The prison is built on a steep cliff, with waves striking at the bottom of the cliff hundreds of meters below, making a deafening sound. Beyond the iron window is the vast sky, but the wind is howling, so even seabirds cannot soar here.
Leo sat on the ground against the cold granite stone wall. The moisture seemed to be transmitted through the hard stones hundreds of meters thick beneath him, making his limbs stiff and cold and numb. The light emitted by the torch inserted on the wall shone on him, as dark and warm as the sunset in the dusk.
"How long do we have to stay here?" Rosie growled angrily.
The sun rises and sets. When the sun rises, the narrow prison is hot and stuffy, filled with suffocating heat; when the moon walks in the sky, the stone houses will become cold as winter, and even if the straw on the floor is wrapped tightly, they will tremble and unable to fall asleep. They are suffering from the heat and coldness - three days have passed. He told himself.
"Why don't you speak?" Rosie knelt in front of him, holding his clothes with both hands. Her amber eyes were still so beautiful, and her eyes were shimmering. But her long hair was cluttered, her face was covered with fatigue and dust, and her lips were chapped. "Where are those friends of yours?" she shouted, but her voice became more and more hoarse. "Where is that damn dwarf? Where is that bastard Sinshaq? And that idiot knight?"
She yelled out their names, but it would not help at all. In the past three days, his confidence gradually faded away and he no longer had much hope. "What should come will always come." Li Ou said bitterly.
"I don't think it will come again." Rosie let go of her fingers, sat on the ground, and lowered her arms. Lu Yuewu behind her never said a word. She was fighting against my decision with silence. Leo thought so. "We have to be trapped here."
The mage unconsciously moved his fingers, like a spell casting gesture. But her spells could not break the hard rocks and allowed them to fly freely in the strong wind. But everything was not yet irreversible. "What we committed is not a death sentence," said Leo.
"Yes, smuggling itself is indeed not a death sentence." Rosie hummed coldly, "but the basis for conviction is determined by the smuggled things. Do you know what is hidden in those mud jars?"
They never broke those statues of porcelain. "You know?"
"Even if the cabin is filled with dead fish, I can smell it." She said a word that made Li Ou's body cold and frightened.
Lu Yuewu suddenly raised her head, stared at Luo Xi, and said word by word, "Why don't you say a word?"
"What is useful?" She asked Leo, "Will you throw them into the sea and return here to bear the anger of the 'noble people'?" No one wants to. Leo remembered what he once said to Lu Yuewu: "If we don't have money and power as a shield, we will always be just unknown people." "We don't want to do this, we are all happy to try our luck." Rosie said their common idea, which was a dangerous and fluke mentality. But this was originally a perfect and a pleasant journey without any mistakes. "But we have been targeted by bad luck long ago."
"Unfortunate?"
"I didn't make a penny, but it was in prison." Luo Xi vented her resentment to Lu Yuewu, "I have said long ago that the black cat will bring us misfortune."
"Miss," a young man in the cell opposite suddenly jerked, "but I have a white cat at home."
"Then you just think you are unlucky." Rosie yelled back in anger.
"But I am not bad, at least I look better than your companions..."
Rosie interrupted him, "So you'll die in front of him."
"No, no, you were wrong Miss. I won't die."
"What's wrong with keeping it here or not waiting to die?"
"We are different from you," said the young man. "We are all stuffed in just a fucking cues, but we didn't do anything big to you."
The knight also mentioned that they were "unexpected gains". So did they? "If you don't commit any major issues, you will be locked up here?" Li Ou couldn't help asking.
"You will definitely not believe me if I said it." The other party shrugged, "I just took a little thing. I am a high-level thief. That day I just happened to meet a knight in disguise. I got up too late, sleepy, slow to react, and slow to pull my hands." His words were more beautiful than the opera script. Leo doubted whether he was an actor. "Yes, I was a poet." He announced proudly.
"Showing off your mouth is like betraying your body." Rosie snorted disdainfully, "Smugglers will at least take risks and work hard, while you will only be lazy."
The other party disliked Rosie's ridicule. "Healthy laborers either died of illness or natural disasters, otherwise they would be affected by misfortune." He smiled, "and we are very different. The worst result is to stay here for a while. Food and accommodation are controlled here. It is warmer than our home." He seemed to have regarded this as a great honor, the favor of God. "Speaking of this, this place is much safer now than outside..."
He was about to talk about the main topic that Leo was concerned about. But an old voice suddenly interrupted him. "Let your mouth rest." The old man in the same cell as the young guy said, "If your hands are turned as fast as your mouth, you will not be thrown in to catch mice to satisfy your hunger."
The young man shrugged at them and turned toward the corner of the wall in disappointment. "Please wait." Li Ou stood up, "If you don't mind, please tell us what happened in the city? We arrived at the port at night and were sent here directly, and we didn't know anything." The darkness of our eyes was the most true portrayal of their time.
"What's the use of knowing?" the old man asked him, "You can't get out either." He told the fact that Leo was frustrated. "It's better to stay here honestly instead of being frightened after knowing it. There are indestructible castles and archer towers, and thick stone walls to isolate evil peeps." This seems to be a taboo, and like the knight, the old man is unwilling to mention it. "We have better lives than archers and soldiers, and now it's their turn to protect us. I feel like a king."
The king in the prison, accompanied by cockroaches and rats all day long. "As far as I know, countless people's lives end behind the solid stone wall." Li Ou Ping calmly tried to convince the other party, "There are many kings who died under the poison. Nowhere is safe."
"At least there is no black dawn here." The handsome pickpocket muttered.
Leo and Lu Yuewu looked at each other. He only felt the chill surge. Their hands and feet were so fast.
"What did they do?" Leo asked uneasily.
"Did nothing." Li Ou clearly saw the old man's body trembling. It was because of fear. He thought so. Something bad must have happened, which made the knight move out, and even the thieves who were stealing were in a panic.
"Please tell me." Leo asked, "I am an alchemist, I think I have to know this."
"Alchemist." The pickpocket exclaimed, "They are they for you?" He looked at the old man. "They hate the alchemist." The old man stared at Leo. His eyes were filled with resistance to trying to keep a distance. "We are all innocent people implicated."
Everyone says that he is an innocent person. If he is innocent, how could he survive here? "I don't know anything." Li Ou said coldly, "I don't want to hear your cold words and ridicule. Not every alchemist has blasphemed the gods and angered nature."
"But there are enough people doing this. I would rather believe the wizard's judgment."
The mage is now with the alchemist and the water and fire. What good things can they have? Slander and fabricate, and put all the blame on the alchemist. But in order to understand the situation, he had to listen to him patiently. "What do they say?"
"Obsolutely," he said, "an unknown omen."
Half of the black dawn is mage, maybe it is the scam they created. Although the rumors end with the wise, there are more stupid people in the world. Three people become tigers. More people will always believe it. "What kind of omen?" As soon as the words were said, dead fish covered with seas flashed in front of Li Ou. Could it be a similar omen?
But he couldn't wait for the answers of the two inmates opposite him. The fire flashed, the shadows extended, and a series of empty footsteps slowly walked down the stone steps. After a collision of keys, the iron door was opened. The jailer walked in with food and threw a piece of hard black bread and a glass of clear water at them. That's all.
"Let us out." The old man suddenly shouted to the prisoner, "Don't lock me up with the alchemist. Alchemy causes people to fall."
"Eat your stuff!" The jailer stuffed the black bread into the old man's mouth, "Stay honestly!"
He distributed the only daily prison cell one by one, leaving only Leo and the others. He walked towards them. Behind him, all the hungry prisoners swallowed the black bread voraciously and drank water that was only enough to wet their lips. However, the next moment, they all fell to the ground one after another. The jailer heard the noise, threw away the pieces of black bread on hand, and smiled at Leo through the fence, "Alchemist? Is it you?"
"Who are you?" Li Ou took a few steps back, separating him from him. Lu Yuewu and Luo Xi also stood up and stared at him vigilantly. The steel fence could not bring them any sense of security.
"As you can see, I'm just a little jailer." The other party shrugged and changed into a kind smile. Li Ou couldn't help but sigh at the changeable expression of the other party. "Don't be nervous, I have no malice. Didn't we meet every day a few days ago?"
That was even more scary. The jailer took a step back and spread his hands to prove that what he said was true.
"What did you do to them?"
"It's just a little bit of gadgets that help them sleep. They're too noisy, know? I often can't sleep at night."
"Let them sleep so you can do something dark?"
"Dark things?" the jailer smiled slightly. "I never get any other red pigments except chicken blood and pig blood. We only do money and don't kill people." Li Ou noticed the words he used - "we". "There are too many people, and it's even more so in prison. I firmly believe that there are ears in the walls. And I'm not good at playing with poison and knives. I'm not the group of dangerous thorny women." He should be referring to the shadow nun. "I'm just a little jailer. I have to make a living by relying on this food. In order not to lose my job, I have to be more cautious."
Leo stared at his eyes, paying attention to his small movements that could reflect his inner activities. But he got nothing. He was an old fry, more cunning than a businessman. Leo thought to himself that he was like a loach that was slippery. Every word he said was like the truth, but it was even more false. "What is your purpose?" He lost his patience at a disadvantage.
"I'm just passing the message for someone."
To pass a message, you have to make such a big fanfare? "Who asked you to pass the message?"
"If you have a fart, just let it go!" Rosie cursed impatiently.
The jailer shrugged without any attention and said, "Black Thorn is very satisfied. You protected his goods. Although there was a little flaw."
Black Thorns. Oh, I should have expected it. Who else except him has such great energy to put his hands into the prison of the guard station. So, the jailer in front of him is a member of the Shadow Moon Mask Society? "The so-called goods are those statues?" Li Ou asked.
"I am only responsible for passing messages, not answering questions and answering questions." The other party smiled softly, "Besides, I have no idea about this."
But their speculation should be inseparable. This trade was a huge profit, full of blood and sin. He was already frustrated, but there was no medicine for regret in the world. "That's all you want to say?"
"There is another sentence: He will let you out. Please be patient."
"Damn it, how long will it take?" Rosie cursed, "Will we carry us out after we die here?"
"Since the person who came was me, this would never be possible." If the person who came was the nun of the shadow, they would have died long ago. "I suggest you better sleep, so that those guys would not wake up and make noise." Without waiting for Leo and the others to answer, some powder suddenly appeared in his hands like magic, and as his arms swung in, filling their nasal cavity.
Li Ou immediately felt his head become drowsy, and only heard the other party's warning in his ears: "A prisoner should know what to say and what not to say. The alchemist should do the same, otherwise your head will move sooner or later." Then his eyes darkened and he knew nothing.
He had a dream. In the dream, he and the girl bathed in the sun, read in the garden, and rested. But in the blink of an eye, the wind blew, and the sky was dark like the night, lightning and thunder, as if the world had collapsed... He woke up while fumbled and found that his head was resting on Lu Yuewu's legs, and his hands were hugging Rosie. The three of them were almost entangled. He quickly let go of his hands and struggled to get up. But his movements were too big, awakening them.
"Does it feel good?" Rosie punched him hard.
Lu Yuewu calmed down her clothes with a calm expression. "Is he leaving?" she asked.
Now it was the moon in the middle of the sky, and the prisoners had woken up. However, they stopped talking, looked frightened and scared. They must have felt like they had passed by death. Leo thought.
Li Ou thought they would stay for a few more days until the wind silenced, but when the stars at midnight were covered with dark clouds, they welcomed good-hearted prison visitors.
The visitor was a knight, with silver-white armor particularly eye-catching in the darkness, and the rose pattern on his chest was eye-catching. He was wearing a silver helmet, with a red tassel hanging on the back of his head; he was carrying a long sword around his waist, and a sapphire at the tail of the sword hilt shone brightly. A expensive magic sword, Leo recognized it. The knight walked towards them, and the torch of the jailer illuminated the face under his helmet.
It turned out to be him.
The other party was also surprised. "I didn't expect it would be you." Kay said, "Open the door." He ordered the prison guards.
"Why just let them out?" The pickpocket shouted, and the prisoner made a noise. The prison was as messy as a pot of porridge.
The knight turned a deaf ear to this, while the prison guard stretched the torch through the gap in the fence like a flattery, burning the prisoner. "Shut up your dog's mouth! Whoever is making trouble tomorrow will not have food!" He threatened loudly.
Li Ou walked out of the cell, moved his hands and feet and breathed a long breath. "It feels much better to see acquaintances at this time."
"I think so." The Knight nodded, "Let's go, let's talk as we go."
The jailers led the way with torches in front. They followed the wet stairs.
"I remember you said," the Knight began, "you only buy things, not participate in smuggling."
The plan never changes quickly. "If you want to know what is hidden in the bottle, the best way is to put your hand in."
"Why don't you break the bottle?" Rosie deliberately tried to pick on it.
She was still worried about the accident just now. "Because the bottle is made of steel and has thorns on it." Li Ou said angrily.
The Knight raised his voice, "But you are smuggling contraband." He turned his head and stared at Leo.
Leo could see with an upright look. "This is an accident." He defended him, "We were unaware of it. We were not lucky enough to bump into something we shouldn't have met and had bad luck." He swallowed the words "The goods are still delivered." He knew that if the knight knew, he might have shouted again.
"Do you have any new news?" Li Ou changed the subject, "I should be able to get into their sight smoothly this time."
"What happened to Ayinbrou recently..." The Knight frowned, "It's very unusual." He spoke hesitantly, "Black dawn..."
"I know they are back." Leo interrupted him, "I want to know what happened, everyone is vague. Since you are counting on me to help, don't hide anything from your partner."
"We were given a ban order." If he obeyed the orders so, he would not investigate these things. The knight struggled for a long time, and then he glanced at the prison guard in front of him, lowered his voice and said in Leo's ear, "Some time ago, the crow fell to the ground and died..." What else he said, Leo no longer cared about, it was as he had seen and heard while sailing. He looked at Rosie, and what she said appeared in his ear: This is an unknown sign.
But this was just a sign, and everything had not come true. Before walking out of the heavy iron gate full of spikes, Li Ou suddenly thought of a question that made him palpitations. This was the reality that even more worried about him.
"Who asked you to release us?"
"My boss." The Knight replied. "The Nova Chamber of Commerce seems to value you very much." He didn't seem to know the inside story. Li Ou responded vaguely, but a huge wave broke out in his heart.
Black Thorns are very eyed. And they are reaching their heads into his pocket. If they are not careful, the head will fall to the ground. This is more dangerous than walking on a sword. Is this his warning? He is not sure.
They walked out of the prison in silence, and the iron gate closed behind them. Li Ou looked up and the thick stone wall around the prison burned fire to dispel the darkness and chill. The archers held their longbows tightly and patrolled back and forth. The crossbow at the top of the tower was shining with a cold and cold light. Li Ou only felt that the crossbow arrow seemed to be aimed at his heart, making him restless.
