Chapter 4 Signs of Death
"I hate shaking, I hate boats." Rosie lay on the bed, pale and weak, "I hate water."
They had sailed for three days. The storm seemed to come at any time, but it was always hanging high above the clouds. Even the moon occasionally showed its face in a shiny gauze. But Captain Pei Dinnan was still cautious. Every night, he arranged a large number of people to look at the sea, in order to find the fleeting starlight in the darkness, and to figure out the thoughts of the gods of the ocean and the storm. They could have relied on the mage, but Miss Mage fell into severe seasickness from the day she set sail. She felt dizzy, nauseated and vomited, and could not eat anything, so she could only collapse on the bed and moan in a drowsy manner.
"I'm fed up." The dry retards smacked Rosie's voice, making her voice almost hoarse. I hope she can chant a spell. "I want to go back." She grabbed Leo's arm and said unreasonably.
"Fly or swim back?" Li Ou smiled helplessly, "Can you still recite the spell of flying magic? Is there any endless energy like a giant dragon?"
"Knock off the deck." Rosie raised her head, "Give me a piece of wooden board and I can cross the ocean."
Leo just wanted to laugh, but it was really inappropriate. He finally held it back. "That would only cause a burial to the fish's belly." He said, "You can't summon fireballs in the sea."
"Yes, this damn water!" Rosie fell on the bed dejectedly, staring at the ceiling and said, "I hate even taking a shower now. When I think about being in water, I want to vomit."
"It will get better." Li Ou handed her the prepared potion, "It will get better after drinking it."
"I've been drinking this sticky and bitter thing for three days." Rosie complained, "but it's still not good."
Even the erudites cannot figure out the causes of seasickness symptoms, so how could I have special medicine? Lu Yuewu helped Luo Xi up and put the bottle mouth beside her mouth. "It's better than doing nothing." Li Ou said.
"A dead body can accompany you to sleep, are you afraid of its smell?" Lu Yuewu said.
"I said, I'm not a necromancer, don't compare me with them." Rosie retorted weakly, "I just hate water, and I'll be dizzy when I see it." She looked at the black and sticky oil in the bottle, "I can't drink it."
The patient always has the privilege. Leo coaxed her and asked her to drink the unpleasant and bitter potion. Then she tucked the horns of the quilt for her. The water lilies in the potion quickly played a role. Her eyes were unable to open and she was drowsy.
"Let her sleep for a while." Li Ou said to Lu Yuewu, "At least it won't be so uncomfortable if you fall asleep."
They accompanied Rosie in the room, Li Ou was immersed in the sea of books, and Lu Yuewu carefully wiped their swords. The monotonous and repeated waves echoed in their ears, and occasionally one or two seabirds flew past outside the porthole. From their chirping, it seemed that there was only sorrow and sadness, which was heartbreaking.
A sudden knock on the door suddenly came, destroying their leisurely afternoon.
When they opened the door, two frightened and panicked faces appeared before them.
"Li, Mr. Li Ou..." He was panting, unable to say even a complete sentence.
Leo asked him to slow down, "What happened."
"Outside... on the sea... the captain asked you to go up and take a look... hurry up..."
On the deck, the sailors stopped their work. They were crowded by the side of the boat, with horror on their faces. The second mate pushed them away with force, "Get out of the way." He cursed, "Get out of here."
Captain Pei Dinnan stood on the second deck with his hand on the railing, holding the monoculars in his hand. Although his face was calm, his face was still pale, and his hand holding the railing was trembling slightly.
"Mr. Leo, look around us." He said without looking back when he heard their approach.
The scene they saw when they walked out of the cabin was already surprising to them, but they stood higher and saw more clearly. Countless fish flew over the white belly and floated on the sea, a fishy smell overwhelmed them, making them feel unbearable and they were about to vomit. They were all dead, and they all realized that all of them, so many fish that covered the sea, stacked and piled up together, were dead, and even the ferocious tiger sharks and humpback whales were not spared.
The captain handed the telescope to Leo, "use it again."
Within a radius of several miles, the silver light was filled with a brutal white light. The white belly of the dead fish seemed to the smile of the god of death, which made him tremble and tremble. Even the strong-minded Leo Islanders could not help but be afraid. He thought.
"This is how I got up this morning." Pei Dinnan's hand still couldn't help but tremble. "Where is Miss Mage?" he asked.
His will was shaking, and he was trying to blame the treacherous phenomenon that affected morale on the spell. Leo realized that he had begun to seek medical treatment in a hurry. "She was already asleep. The symptoms of seasickness could not be resisted."
"That's it." He said with disappointment. He was silent for a long time, staring at the whispers below, gradually turning the sailors with fear and retreat on their faces. "Primary, drive them back. If they are noisy and have endless energy to vent, let them wipe the deck, apply olive oil to the cables, and let them clean the sails." The second deputy took the order. "Mr. Li Ou, let's talk inside." He said, "We have to discuss the future itinerary."
"Do you know what's going on?" the captain paced back and forth throughout the room. "I need a definite answer."
Leo can explain this emergencies in several ways, but he knows that those who make a living by the sea will not believe it.
"I have ordered the ship to be stopped," said the captain. "You have also seen that my sailors are already in a state of despair and have lost their courage. A chicken crow can make them jump into the sea to survive. We can't move on."
Xinshak's words echoed in his ears: No matter what the situation occurs, we are unable to breach the contract. But at this time, from the captain to the sailors, they forgot his warning. They regarded the pile of dead fish as a sea of corpses. "Are you planning to return?" Li Ou asked.
"Is there a second option?" Pei Dinnan looked at Leo, "You want me to continue moving forward? No, this is impossible!" He flatly refused, "You want me to open up a route among the pile of dead fish and ride the wind and waves against the storm that is about to fall? I can't do it, I can't joke about the lives of the entire ship. I have to be responsible for my crew!"
He was also in the captain's room that day, and what Xinshak said was all the way into his ears. "You have to consider your life, too." Leo said, "Xinshak's words are not like lies. Black Thorns must be cruel and ruthless and cannot be defeated."
However, the people of Leo are superstitious about the gods. "The sea god is angry." His tone is no longer firm, but he is still stubborn. "This is the warning of the gods. We cannot take a step forward. Otherwise, what awaits us will definitely be a terrible disaster."
"The god is gone."
"Then how do you explain what's going on right now?"
"This is just a rare wonder, just like a meteor in the sky and there is no trace to be found."
"I just explained to my crew members: Is this a joke the gods have made to us? Let them ignore the dead fish and treat the stench as the fragrance of flowers?" He said angrily, "They are not alchemists, not scholars who read history books. They think that the gods exist, and that gods must exist. They think that this is a sign of the gods, and that gods will inevitably punish them."
Gods are always illusory, and faith is only effective for mad believers. There is one thing that is the natural desire of human beings and cannot be cut off. It can turn faith into snow under the sun. "There is something that makes God hate, but it can dispel fear in people's hearts." Leo said, "It is more popular than God's grace."
Pei Dinnan looked at Leo, "You mean..."
"It's what you think." Everyone will make the same choice as him. "I think it's not an exaggeration to be born and die at the risk of being cursed by God."
"This is……"
"This is what you deserve." Giving faith is usually just for rewards. When the generous reward is in front of you, who is willing to look up? "What do you think? Are we willing to accept death that cannot be escaped no matter what, or are we willing to oppose the illusory prophecy?" Li Ou asked finally.
The captain made a decision quickly. "The words are like the wind." Pei Dinnan said, "It is not as touchable as golden coins."
However, Leo's mood was not much relaxed. He looked at the sea where dead fish were everywhere, and Rosie's words were still in his ears. She said, "Black is an ominous omen."
