Chapter 9 Riots
"Are you okay?" The alchemist filled a glass of wine and placed the glass in front of the paladin.
The latter stretched out his hand tremblingly and said gratefully, "Thank you, thank you."[]
Only then did Li Ou have the opportunity to look at the other person more carefully: the awakened paladin still looked sick, as if the stubborn disease had not been eradicated. He wrapped himself in a cotton coat and curled up in a ball, unable to see any strength. His face still seemed to be frozen pale, as if it was a stiff corpse. But after drinking a sip of hot wine, he seemed to feel better.
"Are you better now?" Li Ou asked.
"It's much better." The paladin smiled hard. "Thank you."
"You should thank the pastor who is willing to sacrifice himself." Rosie said hard, "It's not us."
The paladin looked embarrassed and lowered his head as if he was dodging, "That...sorry."
"What's the use of your apology?" Rosie sarcastically sarcastically, "They don't even believe you, the paladins and priests don't believe you. Do you still think anyone will listen to your words? Damn, we are not prisoners!"
It was the next morning, and the sun was shining, and the fire was burning in the room, emitting a lazy warmth.
However, on the street outside, the militia surrounded the hotel with long sticks and short guns, surrounding them. The militia had panic and frightened on their faces, and from time to time they looked up at them. Once they came into contact with their eyes, their backs were arched quickly like being timid lobsters, and their heads were buried deep in their chests.
Some more courageous villagers gathered around and yelled in the direction of the hotel: "Get out of here!" They shouted loudly, "Monsters, demons, stay away from us, we don't welcome you!"
"How can such a guy stay here? He destroyed the church of Our Lady!"
A woman interrupted cowardly in the cold wind, "He will definitely kill us too."
"That's right!" A farmer waved his fists among the crowd. "There are those outsiders who blasphemed the gods, and they attracted demons. They were also in the same group as that guy!"
"Yes, I can't let them go!"
"Guys, who's going to come with me?" the woodcutter climbed up a stone and stood on it and shouted, "Let's protect ourselves!"
The gathered villagers shouted all kinds of cruel suggestions and pushed each other towards the hotel. Their faces were filled with excitement after being motivated, and they were filled with desperate madness.
"Stop, hell!" the militia yelled in panic, holding the weapons in their hands, but at a loss. "Don't come over!"
"You should also join us." The farmer shouted.
"We... want to." A militia replied, "but our order..."
"...You are protecting us, not the monsters inside!" The messengers in the village lined up and squeezed in front, "We are going to expel those guys from the village, we are going to kill them! You should join us too."
More people joined the protest, shouting and rushing to the militia's defense.
Leo looked at everything that happened on the street. He didn't expect that these militia would become their protective umbrellas. This is really a big joke. Maybe even the priest himself didn't expect this to happen, right?
"Damn it!" another militia shouted angrily, "Mr. Pastor and the village chief are still inside! Stop, you bastards! Do you want to expel them?"
The names of the two elders seemed to have some magic, as if cold snow water was poured on their heads. But the flame of hatred was not extinguished. "Then let them get out!" the woodcutter shouted. He bent over and picked up the stones, and used his strength to smash the alchemist watching by the window. Fortunately, he hit the wrong way and the stone hit the wall. "Get out! Monster!"
His actions set an example. For a moment, stones were flying like raindrops, and Leo had to close the window.
Although they are not crazy believers in the desert, they are not much different from them. Fear blinded their reason, Leo thought that death ate their brains.
"Mr. Paladin," Leo turned to the source of the riot—the paladin who "resurrected from the dead." "Can you tell me what happened?"
"Ah?" He opened his eyes wide in confusion.
"What did you meet? Why did you faint on the side of the road?"
The paladin showed a look of thinking hard, but after a moment, he hugged his head tightly with a pain, and let out a beastly roar in his throat. "Hey, are you okay?" Li Ou reached out to try to pat his shoulder to comfort the other party. But the latter suddenly raised his head, with a ferocious look on his face, and angrily slapped his hand off.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Rosie stood up.
The paladin looked up at her, and the madness in his eyes slowly faded away. "Hug, sorry." He curled up on the chair and shivered. "Sorry, I can't remember, I can't remember anything." He said in pain.
What happened? Li Ou was puzzled. What deprived him of his memory? Or was he not willing to tell them to make up his mind to keep the secret? The alchemist stared at the paladin's face. However, the annoyance and pain on the latter's face were so real that there was no falsehood.
"What about your name?" Rosie, who was standing beside her, said disdainfully, "You should still remember your name, right?"
However, even such a simple question, the Paladin thought for a long time with pain. "My name is Barrow." He said hesitantly, "Barrow... Barrow? Parata."
Somehow, uneasiness always spread in the alchemist's heart. Barrow Parata Leo recited it silently several times in his heart, remembering this name firmly. I hope there will be this name in the book of the church, he thought bitterly.
The door of the room was opened, and Evila and Lu Yuewu walked in. At the same time, the commotion outside the window gradually subsided, and the priest and the village chief shouted to drive away the gathering villagers.
"Don't surround you here, go do your work!" The village chief waved his crutch. "Has the firewood been chopped? Is the flour ground?"
The villagers looked at each other. The strong woodcutter mustered up the courage to ask, "Mr. Village Chief...what are they?"
"Let them stay in it."
"But, but they..."
"...Nothing but." The priest was supported by a young man and coughed, "Go back."
"Sir Pastor, what about the church? The church collapsed. It must be because of their reasons that the goddess gave up the punishment." The man dressed in a messenger before resisted relentlessly. He had a big shoulder bag cross-body around his waist. "Do we do nothing? What if they are really those monsters... then we..."
"Don't worry," the pastor said as he coughed, "the church will be rebuilt soon."
"But, they..."
"...When do you want us two old bones to stay outside? Are you satisfied when we see us frozen to death?" The village chief knocked on the ground with a crutch in anger. "We have made a decision, and I can guarantee that no one will be fine." He said to the guards at the entrance of the hotel, "Look at here and don't let them out. No one is allowed to enter or leave."
"Mr. Village Chief." A militia spoke hesitantly, "Where are people from other villages? Will my uncle also stay with those monsters?"
"They have to do this, too," said the village chief, "treat them equally."
The authority of the village chief here was reflected, and the noise outside gradually became quiet. "Yevilla, what did you all say?" Leo turned his head and looked at her in confusion, "Why did they suddenly seem to be thinking about us?"
Evila didn't say anything, and she didn't even look at him. She stared at the paladin as soon as she entered the door, "Your Excellency." She suddenly spoke. The paladin turned her head, but Evila stopped talking, but looked at his eyes carefully, as if this could see through the other person's heart and understand his secrets.
But according to Leo's observation, they were ordinary and ordinary eyes.
"Nothing." Evilla looked away. "We just agreed on the terms."
"Conditions? What conditions?"
"We will find the monster."
Rosie snorted contemptuously, "They are really good at playing."
"How could they suddenly believe your promise?" Li Ou asked.
"Believe it? They won't believe it." Evila sat down and poured herself a glass of sour fruit wine. She frowned and took a sip. "If we can't find it, we are the monsters wandering on the tundra."
"What qualifications do they have to blame randomly?" Rosie cursed.
Li Ou snorted lightly, "What's the point of not being able to inflict a crime?" He sighed, "What if we don't follow their instructions?"
Evilla showed a sarcastic mockery for the first time. "Then we will be treated as demons and monsters now. We will be dragged out by militia outside and be tied up to a stake. Let us choose."
"Let them try it."
"Who can do this innocent and timid civilians?"
Li Ou glanced at Lu Yuewu, and he found that she was also looking at him, as if he had a heart of touch. So he changed his words to his mouth. "It was like last night... they were holding the feces forks, and I smelled the stench on it..." He said with a giggle.
"Li Ou." Lu Yuewu screamed in shame. "I'm not that stupid enough to really not fight back."
Leo smiled and shrugged. "What else?" he continued, "Has the pastor mentioned the church? What happened last night? Why did it collapse there?"
"How could he know?" Evilla said in a fury, "He was trembling, and even speaking last night became a problem. He said Andal abandoned him, said Andal's statue collapsed first, and said... Lord Paladin."
"Me?" Barrow Parata seemed surprised that Evila would mention him.
"You don't know what happened?"
He lowered his head apologetically, "I, I can't remember."
Evilla cast a hidden look at Leo. "The priest told us to let us look at the Lord Paladin." She said, "I don't know what happened, sir. But please remember and tell the truth."
"Otherwise, once we are desperate, I don't mind pushing you out as a scapegoat." - Leo guessed the last sentence Evilla didn't say, a complete threat. He looked at the bachelor's lady with a cold face, thinking that this was her who belonged to the noble daughter, and she was not a delicate girl with gold-framed glasses. There was no doubt that he needed her help like this.
