Chapter 16 Nightmare
The light of day is no longer visible underground, and the concept of time seems to no longer exist.
The wound continued to be red and swollen, and it had not subsided for several days. Li Ou felt all his strength left him, leaving only the pain of convulsions and tearing. He was lying on the hard and cold floor, facing away from the fire, his face buried in the shadow, curled up, and bit his mouth tightly to prevent moans from overflowing his throat.[]
Everyone must have seen clearly. Her fragility was completely uncovered. But he didn't want to do this, and he didn't want it at all. But what could he do? He could only avoid the eyes of others, as if an ostrich bury his head.
Rosie was calling him, as if from a very distant place. "Lee Ou? Lee Ou?" She kept saying, "Lee Ou?" A cold hand was placed on his forehead. "He had a fever." Her voice was very light, she couldn't hear clearly, but she was angry.
Leo tried to raise his eyelids. In the darkness around him, there was a dim halo, and countless confused shadows could not see clearly. Someone surrounded him, and the slightest whispered sounded like the murmuring of a ghost's soul.
Finally, everything returns to silence.
He dreamed that he was in Aiyinbulo and returned home. He pushed open the door and entered. Lu Yuewu smiled and greeted him gently. Luo Xi stood on the stairs and looked at him with a chuckling. He walked towards them. But in an instant, a long sword flashed cold light and pierced into his belly.
"Yuewu." He shouted, "Yuewu."
He called the name of the female swordsman, and watched Lu Yuewu's face suddenly twist in front of him, turning into a nightmare transformed into the curse that had entangled him in his dream. He opened his mouth wide and wanted to call for help, but Rosie turned around and left with disappointment.
The house began to collapse and turned into powder. The hard ground under his feet turned into soft mud. Only the nightmare in front of him burned green demon fire, his eyes were like golden copper bells, reflecting his despair. The sword body went deeper, rubbing his spine, and the nightmare sneered in the soft mud. He gradually sank in the soft mud.
Even in the deep dream, I still felt pain. My abdomen tingled, and my breathing was like fire. He held the sword blade with his hand, and the dripping blood was licked by his tongue sticking out of the mud, and then climbed up to his body and dragged him deep. The pain and suffocation came together, spreading like lightning. He shouted for help.
"We're here," said the familiar voice, "we're here."
I fell asleep, and Leo remembered and had a terrible dream. "Roxi?" He was covered in sweat, and the fiercely burning fire could not dispel the coldness. "Roxi, is it you?"
"No, it's me." The woman's voice was sour and sad. "I'm Evera."
Miss Bachelor's head was dizzy. He heard someone arguing, which sounded like Rosie's voice, but the distance seemed too far and too small, and he didn't know if it was his own auditory hallucination.
"Do you feel better?" Miss Bachelor put her hand on his head.
"I...I'm fine, I just fell asleep."
"Drink some water." said the bachelor's lady. She held the water bag to Leo's lips.
The taste was strong and sour, and there was a fishy smell of grass stems and mycelium. "What is this? I want water, give me water."
"The herbs Mr. Conner found will be good for your injuries." The bachelor's wife put the water bag on Leo's lips.
Even drinking water hurts. The dark-colored liquid flows along the chin, drips to the chest, and spills out from the mouth. "No."
"Drink a little more. You have a fever and your wound is ulcerated." She said worriedly. "I used alcohol to disinfect it, but it was useless. Your potion was ineffective. What was going on? I couldn't stop the infection even if I tried my best."
He felt a little better and sat up with the help of the bachelor's lady. "Don't worry." He told her, "It will get better in a few days. This is just a normal reaction."
"Normal reaction?" Miss Bachelor raised her voice. "How much potion did you take? Look at your hands, your muscles were almost completely ulcerated, and your bones were black. Do you really want it to be useless?"
There was anger in her eyes, which was some kind of disappointment that Lu Yuewu showed. She must have thought that I was torturing myself to win sympathy. But it wasn't like that, absolutely not. So, he didn't need sympathy, and even more so, he didn't need sympathy. "I'll get better." He pushed away the water bag against his lips and tried to struggle to stand up. But the irresistible weakness was more intense than before. He sat back on the ground, the pain in his palms was like a scorpion tail thorn in his heart.
"What are you going to do?" The bachelor's lady pressed his shoulder angrily. "Now is not the time to show off."
It was always better than suffering your disappointed eyes. However, he could not even break free from the Bachelor's hand. He lay weakly on the ground and saw Rosie walking towards him. Lu Yuewu was a few steps away from her...they...he didn't know what to say, so he had to say to the Bachelor's lady, "Let me sleep a little. I want to sleep."
He closed his eyes and chose to escape.
The dream seemed to smell the dog shit and immediately pounced on it, and it was boundless, completely swallowing him up, and it came endlessly, one terrible dream followed by another terrible dream. He dreamed that he was standing in the spire of the sword group, dreaming of a sailboat located on the sea, and dreaming of himself in a palace with flowing water, enjoying the beautiful sunset through the high arched windows in the hall.
However, the setting sun in the sky is like blood, and the sea is as red as burning hematite. The waves are rolling with demons, they are singing their teeth and claws, screaming, and every time they change shape, they look like a familiar person. Luo Xi's face, Lu Yuewu's face, the Bachelor's face, and many faces; their faces have the same disappointment, hatred, disgust, and pity. Enough! He shouts to the ghosts, get out, don't come again! I don't need you, just leave me alone!
Those monsters were obedient like never before, and they all dispersed.
It seems that the whole world is the only one left.
When the setting sun fell, a boy stood by the sea, his blue and gray shirt, his messy hair, and his crying face. He was six years old. A woman with a shiny body hugged him. Mom. He realized. However, he couldn't see her clearly, and only a string of tears fell on his face. When he wanted to reach out to hug her, his mother dissipated like a grain of light, and no matter how he shouted, he could not stop her from leaving.
Li Ou suddenly woke up with tears rolling on her face.
He raised his hand, but a soreness hit him, and finally he could only let tears roll across his cheeks and drip on the ground. Fortunately, they were all asleep, and only the desert warrior sat in front of him.
The pain was still there, but he finally had the strength. He struggled to sit up. "How long have I slept?" he asked the other party.
"One day and one night," replied the Desert Warrior, "Are you better?"
"I can't die." He told the other party, took the water bag handed over by the other party and poured a large mouthful of cold spring water. "When is it now?" He wiped his mouth casually and raised his head to ask.
"Midnight," said the desert warrior, "they were all asleep."
"That's fine," he whispered.
A candle made of camel oil emitted a dim light and a pungent smell. Li Ou looked at his rebanded left hand and tried to move his fingers, but the pain was more obedient than the five stiff and swollen fingers, red like ointment, pulled the whole arm, causing an uncontrollable tremor. He gritted his teeth and held the fur blanket covered with his right hand to prevent himself from making any noise.
"Are you sure you're fine?" the desert warrior asked with concern.
"I know my own body." Li Ou shouted in a low voice. I was showing off, not knowing what the meaning of maintaining a little pitiful and fragile, but his mouth was still stubborn. "I'm already done, I can kill people."
The desert warrior's distrustful eyes were so obvious. Did he not know how to hide his emotions?
"What do I want to do if you don't sleep late at night?" He said with a bad temper. "If you have anything to say, hurry up."
The desert warrior sat cross-legged, with his palm facing the sky, and made a meditative posture. The axe and a spear were placed on his right hand, staring at him with calm eyes. "I heard that voice again." He said, "The gods responded to me."
They are now in a hall, and the cold wind blows from the depths of the darkness, bringing a burst of chill. Li Ou wrapped his blanket tightly and looked up at the towering stone statue hidden in the darkness. He swallowed, but was choked. He covered his mouth and whimpered and coughed, and his lungs felt a scorching pain. After a while, he raised his head again.
"What did they tell you?"
“Just like you dream, I dream when I meditate.”
"Dreams can also lie."
"How long have you been eating? You must be hungry, right?"
He was indeed hungry and his stomach was empty. "I really want to eat something."
"Then let's have a good meal. Have something to eat first, it won't work without strength." The desert warrior stood up to search for the bag, leaving him alone.
The surroundings were dark and silent, and hearing dominated here. He could hear extremely subtle sounds, each person's different breathing, the rolling of sand, and some whispering like hallucinations. However, when he tried hard to listen, the sound disappeared. Is this the so-called oracle? He smiled silently.
The desert warrior brought the bread and a piece of barbecue. "We have only that." He said, handing him the water bag. "The food is getting less and less. Maybe we should go out and hunt gerbils and sand rays. But that's enough for you to eat."
The spring water was cold, the bread was hard, the barbecue was harder, but Leo was even hungry. He felt that what he had eaten before was not as good as he had eaten today. "What do you want to say? The oracle showed you all this?" He asked and swallowed his last bite of bread.
"Count the time, Mr. Leo." said the Desert Warrior, "What have we heard?"
His reminder reminded Leo of something that was almost forgotten by him. "That female magician?"
"The gods called her a 'witch'." His voice was irrepressible.
What else is there in the metaphor? Is it a miracle that is about to be revealed? "Is the sacrifice?"
"Yes. Time is here, just tomorrow, starting from dawn."
"What did the gods tell you to do?" he asked, "Does it?"
"Watch," said the Desert Warrior, "Our dogma is tenacity and patience. Wait, and then fate will come to you."
"What then? Resist or surrender?"
"Fate will be arranged by itself, and the answer will be known." The desert warrior said seriously, "The way is in my heart."
From his eyes, Li Ou saw some kind of justice, which was so similar to Lu Yuewu. This is faith, right? He thought. And I am a guy without faith, so I will never understand what they think.
"The gods tell you, want you to call me a living dead person like me?" Can you find any will to fight in me? "I can't even go up to the ground, and I will only drag you down."
"I asked you." The desert warrior stared into his eyes. "You said you're ready."
Good and evil will be rewarded. He sighed. "Yes, I can't die." He stood up with the help of the desert warrior. His head was dizzy, his legs and feet were sore, but he could walk around. He found the remaining potion and stuffed it into his arms. "Let's go." He said weakly, "Let's see what kind of honorable fate the so-called gods have arranged for me in front of me."
