Chapter 39 The City of Lies

Baghdad is located at the intersection of the east and the west. It is a famous city with a long history. Merchants from all over the world bring their own goods to sell them in the Zaba built. Zaba is similar to a market in the Western continent, but has solid walls and roofs that shelter from wind and rain. Yellow and gray buildings fill the entire city. These buildings have experienced a long history, so it is understandable that some of them are dilapidated. Countless ragged beggars stretch out their hands to beg for passers-by. The rich, big belly rich people would rather feed their dogs than give alms. This is the capital of Baghdad and the poor.

"Enough, I have heard these commentaries about Latina countless times." Schwab frowned and was very annoyed by the obliged tour guide, but Latina was like her girlfriend shopping and was not allowed to object.

"I'm for you to know the city you are in better." Latina smiled. Schwab looked at Latina's sly smile and shook his head helplessly. However, Schwab also admitted that Latina's nagging provided some useful information. For example, although Anudin ruled here, in fact, the Seljuk Turks were only interested in fighting. As for how to manage the city, it was completely laissez-free, so that the city was rampant in crimes, but a dynamic balance was formed in the chaos. Basically, several major guilds were maintaining Baghdad, and at the same time they could provide equipment and funds for the Seljuk Turks to use their favorite war games, and the Seljuk people were happy.

"Then we are going to find those allies?" Schwab asked.

"Alliance? Oh, hehe." Latina seemed to have heard something funny and smiled with her mouth covering her mouth. This seemingly ridiculous meaning of sneering did not anger Schwab, he was just thinking.

"What, am I wrong?"

"There is no one to trust in Baghdad, you know, it is called the capital of lies."

"Ah, lies, betrayal. Death seems to be heard everywhere in this era." Schwab had experienced too many deaths and conspiracies and did not care about coming again. When they walked on the streets, people were used to seeing these merchants holding camels, so no one cared about personal busyness.

"Latina, follow the caravan to the hotel, my subordinates and I go around." Schwab covered her cloak and decided to go around and see if there was any way to find the missing children, but Latina pulled Schwab closer and said softly in his ear.

"I'll give you a piece of advice to Lord Earl, don't trust anyone here." After saying that, Latina smiled and followed the caravan to the hotel, where the caravan needed to recover and rest after a long journey.

Schwab took a Teutonic knight around this strange city. It was a miracle to watch this city that had been destroyed by time. Schwab saw many barefoot children wearing dirty and torn cloth, just like Schwab saw some mountain children reported in his previous life, which made Schwab's heart feel pity.

"Hi." In the streets as dirty and narrow as all these times, Schwab saw two children fighting each other, a slightly bigger and stronger boy. He pressed a little girl to the ground and beat her hard. Schwab couldn't help but walk forward to stop them. Because the boy took such a heavy move, Schwab was worried that he would beat the little girl to death.

"Dog shit." Seeing Schwab coming, the little boy stopped and cursed and sweared, then ran quickly into the tortuous alley. Because he grew up here since he was a child, the little boy quickly disappeared at the end of the alley.

"Are you okay?" Schwab stepped forward and pulled up the little girl. The little girl had a pair of watery black eyes, which were like gems in the night sky, but her little face was thin and malnourished. The worst thing was that she had no palms on her left arm, and she was a disabled child.

"Um." The little girl let out a slight moan, probably touching the wound. When Schwab was about to ask something, she gave her some money or food. But the little girl seemed to be frightened and turned her head and ran away. Her clothes were wrapped around her body in a torn manner. Schwab took two steps forward to chase after it, but disappeared like the previous little boy.

"Sir, what's wrong?" The Teutonic Knight looked at Schwab vigilantly. His duty was to protect Schwab.

"No, it's okay." Schwab shook his head helplessly. There are such wandering children in this dilapidated city every day. And it is not the time for him to be compassionate, but he must find the abducted noble children.

"How did you get it?" Just as Schwab was stunned by his compassion, in the dark and messy alley, the little boy who had run away was leaning against the wall waiting. The one-armed little girl tripped by the little boy's feet when she ran to the corner, and the little boy said to her without any mercy.

"Yes, but I got it. You can't just take it alone, otherwise I won't hand it over." The little girl didn't look pitiful at this time. She bit her lips and lay on the ground, yelling, her clothes became dirty and covered with dust.

"You poor man, if it weren't for me, would you think you could get money from some stupid guy?" The little boy's face was filled with adult cunning, and Schwab, who had done good deeds in his mouth, became a complete fool.

"You can't take it all." The little girl said relentlessly.

"Okay, but this matter cannot be known to "grayhead"." The little girl's stubbornness eventually forced the little boy to make concessions, and he had to nod and agree to this way of sharing. At this time, which cautious little girl brought the little boy to a place where the money bag was hidden.

"You hide your money in this place?" the little boy said disgustingly. Looking at a corpse who died of a disease on the ground, the little girl reached out to grop under the body with swollen and pustules for a long time, and finally took out a yellow purse. The purse made a sound of silver coins. This sound could make the greedy people feel as if they were in heaven.

"Finished." The little girl held the purse and smiled knowingly, but at this moment she felt a heavy blow from her body, and she lay on the body. The lack of a palm made it very difficult for her to get up.

"Haha, fool, do you think I will share this bag of money with you? Bah." The little boy smiled cruelly, held the bag of money in his hand, and left proudly.

"Damn guy, may you rot like this corpse, woo." The little girl cried and cursed, but this is the way of life in this city, and this is the cruelest hunting ground.

Schwab had no idea about the cold war of survival in the city, but when he was about to buy a beautiful jewelry, he realized that his money bag had disappeared from his waist at some point. The ridiculed eyes of the people around him seemed to think Schwab was just a liar, and the owner's face turned from attentiveness to ashes. He thought that this foreigner was teasing him.

"Damn it, that little girl." Schwab didn't make any excuses. When he walked out of the jewelry store with a pale face, he told his companions the whole process.

"Haha, what am I talking about?" Latina's expression was the most annoying. She said to Schwab with gloating.

"Forget it, Lord Earl, fortunately there is not much money in the bag, and each of us has enough money."

"It's not the reason, I~~~." Schwab's face was pale and his brows frowned.

"What the hell is going on?" Latina saw that Schwab seemed to have something more important, so she stopped laughing at Schwab and sat down and asked.

"The money in the purse is nothing, but I put my seal inside, and I am very worried about being discovered by the Seljuks."

"It's so bad, so Count, do you remember what that little girl looks like?"

"Well, her black eyes, by the way, there is no palm in her left hand, that's all." Schwab lowered his head and thought about it, and told him about the characteristics of the little girl in his impression.

"Well, we'll find that little girl." The Teutonic Knights promised Schwab.

"For safety reasons, we must hide in the outskirts of Baghdad and find a way to retreat in advance." Schwab said to his subordinates.

"Okay." Latina stood up lightly and walked out of the door. Schwab chased after him. This wooden hotel has been around for a while. When Schwab walked on the corridor, the floor squeaked.

"Where are you going?" Schwab asked.

"Hey, aren't you going to find a place in the suburbs? I've been here before, so it wouldn't be better for me to do it?" Latina said with a smile, as if all this was a very ordinary thing. Schwab really didn't know how she lived before.

"Well, my knights are too tall, you know they are too conspicuous, so Latina please be careful." Schwab thought for a while and felt that it was not noticeable to do such a maid. Latina was the most suitable person when the enemy surrounds the enemy and his negligence was about to reveal his identity.

"Don't worry, my Count, haha." Latina threw a charming look at Schwab and turned away from the hotel. However, she did not go to the suburbs she said, but walked towards the darkest streets of the city. She looked like a lost woman, looking so helpless and tender, and the dangerous criminals in the alley showed yellow teeth, as if she had seen a little lamb fall under her claws.
