Chapter 4 Windfall

Section 4: Unexpected gains

When a green forest robber was aiming the arrow and was about to shoot, a sudden sound of horse hooves came from behind him. When he turned around, he saw a figure passing by. The reflection of the sword body flashing in the sun shone in his eyes. Suddenly, he felt something was passing by on his abdomen. The huge inertia brought him to the ground, and blood oozed out of his abdomen. He could not block it with his hands. In the end, only the figure of a knight riding a horse in black armor was left in front of him.

There were fighting sounds everywhere in the forest. Mag stabbed the robbers with the spear in his hand, but these fierce green forest robbers also showed their ruthlessness when they were forced into desperate situations. They carried the bows and arrows in their hands behind them, pulled out their axes or battle hoes from their waists, and rushed towards Mag and their spear team with wild shouts.

"Pay attention to defense and shrink and move closer." Mag ordered loudly. The spear team members immediately moved closer and held the spear in their hands tightly. A wall of spear tips appeared in front of the robbers. Several fierce robbers did not have time to retract their feet due to inertia, and their thick bodies were skewed on the spear like meat skewers.

"Oh." But the robbers behind were not afraid. They used their companions' bodies as cover, used the axe in their hands to push away the spear and slashed at the spear team members.

"Kill." Mag and several team members put down their spears, drew out the dagger under the cover of the square formation, seized the opportunity to stab the sword in their hands into the robber's chest. The sharp dagger quickly and accurately pierced into the opponent's body. The robber screamed, but because of the push from the people behind, he fell at Mag and the feet after being stabbed into several swords.

"Grass-Mud Horse." As the robbers raised their weapons in their hands and slashed at the team members in the array, a roar came from behind them, and Chen Jun rushed towards the robbers with his horse.

The horse rushed into the robbers' team, and the impact force hit several robbers who were facing away from Chen Jun. When the robbers were dizzy, Chen Jun waved the sword in his hand in their team, and the sharp blade brought a blood bead among the gathering crowd.

"Oh, Grassy Horse." Seeing his leader joining the battle, Mag and the spear players were in high morale. They imitated Chen Jun's voice and shouted loudly. They rode in the chaos of the robbers' team with excitement, and the spear accurately pierced the throats of the robbers who were hit on the ground.

"Mag asked the new recruits to join the battle." Seeing that the other party had no ability to fight back, Chen Jun immediately ordered the new recruits guarding in the convoy to join the battle. Only by experiencing the baptism of blood can these people truly become soldiers.

"Yes, sir." Mag immediately passed the order to the convoy behind him. The recruits grabbed the only spear in their hands and rushed towards the fierce and ferocious robber.

"Young guys, if you want to get the spoils, then get it yourself. Kill those people and the things you have on them will be yours." Chen Jun rode on his horse and waved the sword in his hand high above his head. He inspired the newcomers on the battlefield.

"Oh." These farmers who had been fed up with poverty had heard that they could get the trophy and were no longer so scary when they looked at the robbers. They used the training they received in Mark Fort on the gradually timid robbers.

"Ah." Several spears stabbed a robber. Although these robbers who were robbing families had long been accustomed to the life of licking blood from the knife, their opponents this time were no longer unarmed travelers or farmers.

Chen Jun completely regarded these robbers as human targets for training his team. Looking at the robbers who were stabbed to the ground one after another, he knew that his training had achieved great results. Several robbers who were struggling dyingly turned their heads to pounce at Chen Jun as they looked at the spear like a forest.

"Damn bastard." One of the robbers in chain armor rushed over. This equipment was better than other robbers. It can be determined that he should be the leader of these robbers. Chen Jun stepped forward with a horse's belly and slashed at him several times. The robber leader also had some arm strength to resist it.

The horse under Chen Jun ran over his head due to inertia. The robber leader took the opportunity to cut Chen Jun's legs with a knife. However, because Chen Jun was wearing plate armor, his legs were also protected by the striped leg armor. The blade only cut a mark on it without causing any damage to Chen Jun.

"Grass-Mud Horse." Chen Junyi turned his head away from the reins and slashed the robber's boss's chest with his backhand. A sharp sword passed through his chest, and blood poured out from the wound, dyeing his chain armor red.

"Woo." The robber leader groaned, and he was so tough that he ignored him and slashed at Chen Jun like crazy. Chen Jun stepped on the stirrups, and tried his best to aim at the robber leader's neck and slashed over.

The robber leader felt a chill on his neck, his eyes wide open under his messy black hair, as if he was disbelieving, and suddenly felt dizzy. When he landed on the ground, he saw a familiar body without a head standing there shaking and then falling down.

"Sir, are you okay?" Mag grabbed the spear in his hand and ran to Chen Jun's horse. The remaining robbers also fled in scattered after the leader's death. At this time, Chen Jun regretted that he had no cavalry.

"Check out the spoils." Chen Jun's sword was stained with blood, and blood dripped down from the sword body. He shook the blood on the sword.

Chen Jun's people searched for the escaped enemies in the forest. The recruits happily looked through the valuable things on the killed robbers. The most popular ones were the leather armor and shoes on the robbers, and then some relatively simple bows and arrows.

"Set out." After packing up the spoils, Chen Jun wanted to gather here to attack passers-by. These robbers must have a headache for the local lords. Now that he has eliminated these robbers himself, he has to change some benefits, so he asked Mag to bring the robber leader's head and the team set out again.

The team moved forward smoothly. Although some unknown people appeared around the team on the way, they saw the long spear players on the team who were on guard and Chen Jun, who was majestic on his horse wearing armor, disappeared and stopped appearing.

When we walked to a bridge fort, the team stopped and waited quietly for inspection. This bridge fort belonged to the Earl of Baden, and the land around the bridge fort belonged to the Earl of Baden. This bridge fort across the Black Rhine was built of solid stone. Two steep square towers stood at the two ends of the bridge. There were usually more than thirty archers stationed in the square tower. Several guards holding long halberds stood in the entrance of the bridge fort wearing leather armor. They were also tax collectors responsible for collecting tolls.

"I am Sir Schwab of Mark, and I request it to pass." Chen Jun rode on his horse and said to the guards. Chen Jun knew that since he was a noble, he would maintain the necessary style. Mag behind him raised Chen Jun's flag high.

"Welcome to you, the noble Lord." The guard saw Chen Jun's flag and armor on his body and knew that this was a real territory nobleman. He quickly flashed over and let Chen Jun and his team pass through. Earl Baden was a lord with a relatively noble gentlemanly manner. The nobles passing through his territory did not need to be taxed by traffic, but not all nobles were so gentlemanly.

"What is that?" Chen Jun saw a piece of parchment under the square tower of the bridge castle, and a seal was covered with beeswax under the parchment paper, with the seal of Earl Baden.

"It's the Earl's Reward wanted." The guard looked at the parchment that he didn't know what to write. The lower class of medieval people were basically illiterate. Most of these notices were read out loud by the clerk in a few days a week. After listening to it many times, the guard had already mastered the content.

"What's the reward?"

"A group of Green Forest robbers, who often attacked travelers and caravans, caused the Earl's income to be reduced a lot, so the Earl offers a reward that can kill those Green Forest robbers and their leader Clooney, who will receive three hundred silver houses."

"Oh, then do you know the cunning Clooney?" Chen Jun's heart moved. Could it be the group of robbers who attacked him?

"I don't know, but there are passengers attacked in the bridge castle, and they can testify against the robbers."

"Then you go and get the people quickly, I need them to identify them."

"Great Lord, have you caught the cunning Clooney?"

"I'll know soon, go quickly, my people and I will arrive at Han Ruowei."

"Yes, Lord." The guard hurriedly ran to the bridge castle, and arrived at the castle along the rotating building, where was the rest room of the housekeeper who managed the territory instead of the Earl.

"Sir?" The guard came to the wooden door and reached out to knock on the door. The sound of men and women moaning came from the door. After a moment, a man's impatient voice came out.

"What's the matter?" asked an old bald man in disheveled face when the door opened.

"Someone caught the cunning Clooney." The guard said quickly, his eyes unconsciously glanced inward, and through the crack of the door, a naked and plump young woman sitting on the bed and smiling at the guard. The guard knew that this was a prostitute who had just hooked up with the housekeeper.

Although it was only one glance, the woman's fair body made the guard a little overwhelmed. The guard decided to visit this woman no matter what.

"Yes, who?" The housekeeper closed the door unhappily, and after a moment, he walked out in a neat dress. He asked the guard guarding the door.

"A nobleman, Lord Schwab of Mark."

"Sir Schwab, I have never heard of it. It would not be the little country nobles there." The housekeeper was familiar with the nobles in the north. Among these big figures, there was never a single one named Schwab. He looked just an unknown country knight. The housekeeper thought that he could not let these people deceive the count and cheat the bounty, "let those merchants identify it."

"Yes, sir."

Soon several businessmen came to Chen Jun. After carefully identifying the cunning Rukney's head, they nodded one by one. That's right.

"Thank you, sir, for your bravery has benefited the local area." The butler showed a hypocritical smile on his face. He originally wanted to lose the bounty and he took it all by himself, but he didn't expect that the one who killed the Green Forest robber was a nobleman. Looking at the soldiers holding spears behind him, the butler knew that he could not get the money this time, so he kept flattering the knight in front of him, hoping that he would give up the bounty because of the chivalrous spirit.

"Stop talking nonsense, give me the bounty, we have to go to Han Ruowei." Chen Jun had no favors to this nagging bald old man, and he interrupted the butler without hesitation.

"Uh, yes, yes." The butler showed a look of condemnation on his face. He had to take out 300 silver custodians from his purse and handed them to Chen Jun reluctantly. Chen Jun passed through Bridge Castle without looking back.

"Hmph, the country bumpkin." After Chen Jun's team passed, the housekeeper spat hard. He walked into the fort and there was a beauty waiting in his room, which made him feel much better.
