259. New Western Trends

I remember that there should be two Cape Verde in Africa. One is on the sea - the Cape Verde Islands in the North Atlantic. It is more than 500 kilometers from Cape Verde in Senegal, the westernmost point of the African continent in the east. It guards the key traffic between Europe and South America and South Africa, including 15 large and small islands including St. Anton, St. Nicholas, Saar, Boavishta, Fugu, and Santiago, which govern two groups of windward islands in the north and leeward islands in the south.

Another Cape Verde is on land, which is Cape Verde, the capital of Senegal, as I just said, is located at the westernmost end of the African continent, the westernmost part of Cape Verde.

However, whether it is Cape Verde or Senegal, except sailing enthusiasts and football enthusiasts, others may not know much. However, if you mention the famous geographical location of Dakar on the Cape Verde Peninsula, it is probably because of the famous Dakar car rally that this place is almost everyone knows.

Moreover, after decades of development, the Dakar Rally was no longer limited to cars, but became a comprehensive brand integrating auto parts, luggage, competitions and various peripheral equipment. Trucks, SUVs or motorcycles that can achieve good rankings in the Dakar Rally will either be famous or become famous overnight, becoming a holy place for countless racing enthusiasts and racing brands.

But today, when our fleet sailed to Dakar, to be precise, Cape Verde, it was a supply port and a distribution center of slave trade. A large number of black people were bound by ropes, like animals waiting to be trafficked, being pulled, expelled, and waiting for them were unknown fate, separation and pain.

However, this is the general trend of the times. Even if I can't bear it, I can't confront the entire West. So I can only comfort myself. In the words of some modern domestic bricks, this is also the process of promoting the great migration and integration of ethnic groups! Tsk tsk!

Before 1671, both Cape Verde were under Portugal's control, acting as an outpost supply station for Western countries such as Portugal to Africa south, eastward into the Indian Ocean, and westward towards the New World.

After 1671, the French discovered the great strategic significance of Cape Verde on land, and "buyed" the land from Portugal, and carried out a lot of development. Cape Verde - or Dakar - became the capital of French Africa.

Of course these are all later stories. When I really arrived here, I really understood why Dakar's reputation in the history of navigation was not as great as the Cape of Good Hope, but its actual strategic significance was far more than that of the far corner!

The rows of ocean-going ships waiting to go out to sea are like fishes running in the water, heading north or south. Our fleet is quite large, but after entering the dock, it is like a scoop of water pouring into the sea, which is really not obvious at all!

I am also thinking seriously why there is such a prosperous place in such a remote Africa? After comparison, the answer is clear at a glance-

The greatest value of the Cape of Good Hope at the southernmost part of Africa is that it is a must-pass place for Europe to go to the east coast of Africa and Asia. After a long barren land in West Africa, you can finally replenish it once before turning, take a breath and take a rest.

But objectively speaking, the Cape of Good Hope is too far away from Europe! All European ships will definitely be more prominent and convenient to supply Dakar before arriving at the Cape of Good Hope. However, if the destination is the west coast of Africa, or the Caribbean Sea, and South America, you don’t need to go to the Cape of Good Hope anymore. You can turn around and cross the Atlantic Ocean directly in Dakar.

After the opening of the Suez Canal in later generations, the strategic value of the Cape of Good Hope plummeted, because Europeans no longer had to circle the Indian Ocean through sea and land. They went directly to the Mediterranean Sea and through the Suez Canal to reach the Red Sea. In this way, the trade volume that needs to bypass the Cape of Good Hope dropped sharply by 90%, and the Cape of Good Hope will no longer be glorious.

But Dakar can be unaffected. From Europe to America, it is impossible to walk the Suez Canal. So in later generations, Dakar can make a lot of money; but the money that Dakar can make is basically not enough. So the Cape of Good Hope becomes a former star, a real outdated internet celebrity, and all the prosperity turns into this love that can be recalled, leaving only sighs that only new people have always laughed, and who has heard the old people cry?

Learning from history, will the Strait of Malacca in South Asia become the next Cape of Good Hope? It guards the throat of Asia leading to Europe, Africa and the Indian Ocean, the Port of Malacca has become a "pirate" who is openly stalked in modern times. The great powers of East Asia have suffered greatly from this and resolutely decided to establish the Port of Gwadar across the sea and land through Pakistan!

Once the Gwadar Port is completed, it is expected that the total shipping volume in Malacca will drop by about 80%. Don’t forget the past and the next one. It can be imagined that the decline of Malacca will only be tomorrow!

But that was a matter of hundreds of years later. Now I am concerned about what I will face. At the Cape Verde bar, I used my usual "coin-scattering method". I threw a gold coin out and immediately got a lot of news.

Spain started war with the Ottoman Empire in the Mediterranean! A large number of troops were concentrated in the waters around Barcelona and Algeria. The main force of the Ottoman Empire's naval force set out from Istanbul, passed Athens, and was approaching the waters around Florence, Italy and Naples.

Italy, which was closest to the firefighting place between the two sides, expressed surprising silence and did not participate in the battle between the two forces - the title of European Ergouzi was indeed not for nothing. Both sides fought in front of their own doors and were still pretending to be a Virgin.

Then with the opportunity of fighting between the two sides, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands made a fortune in Northwest Europe, constantly strengthening the plunder of undeveloped land around the world, seizing resources, and strengthening their strength. Second-tier navigation countries such as France are also slowly rising, but there is a clear gap compared to first-tier navigation countries.

However, regardless of strength, the countries are in dire straits in terms of power division, with open and hidden arrows emerging one after another, and the competition for power has reached a heightened intensity!

However, some people say that it is said that the Fifth Fleet of the Spanish Invincible Fleet was recently wiped out by a mysterious force. While the country was shocked, the Spanish king also instructed the Navy Commander-in-Chief A*Perez De Guzman to find out the culprit and give the people an explanation as soon as possible.

Hearing this, I couldn't help but raise my eyebrows. Tsk, what? Are you looking for trouble? Am I scared?

This little situation wants to scare me? Are my entire Calais Clippers making fun of it?

Can't I still run if I can't afford to beat me?

It's ridiculous!

But no matter how joking is, after hearing this news, I was even more alert. It seems that things are not as simple as I imagined, and even the past has been alarmed. It seems that there must be cause and effect behind this matter, otherwise a small fleet that is unknown will have no reason to cause such a stir.

Just as we were about to leave the bar, a voice suddenly came into our ears: "Have you heard of it? That beautiful Spanish female pirate appeared again!"

Hearing this, Old Tucker and I turned our heads almost at the same time, looking at the table of sailors next to the bar.

A sailor wearing a gauze shirt held the bottle high, shaking the last few drops of the bottle into his mouth, muttering, "Who said no? It is said that the little girl is very capable, and she has accumulated a whole fleet from somewhere, and is in the Spanish Navy near Madeira."

The mustache who was speaking just now laughed and said, "It seems that she was killed by someone from the Spanish Navy and the Portuguese. She wanted to take revenge."

Ge Bushan said with a whisper: "It's not easy! I heard that the Spaniards ambushed a large number of ships in the Windward Islands and were preparing to join forces with the Seville fleet. What about the female pirates nearby!"

The drunk man next to him said with a loud voice: "Fight, fight! Let's see who knocked down whom in the end!"

After saying that, the few people burst into laughter.

Old Tucker and I looked at each other, and did not speak. We immediately took the staff out of the bar and rushed towards the dock at full speed.

As I walked quickly, I asked Old Tucker: "You said, how much information can be calculated?"

Old Tucker walked too fast, his limbs seemed not very comfortable, and he frowned slightly and said, "At least the fleet of the Windward Islands must be true! There is so close to here, there, there is no news to hide!"

I nodded and walked and asked, "What are your plans?"

Old Tucker's steps seemed to be stagnant, and he accelerated his pace. He whispered: "Captain, I can't let everyone take risks with me..."

I patted his back and smiled and said, "Don't talk about this!" As I spoke, I had arrived at the dock, and I continued, "Let's go! Get on the boat first!"

When I arrived at the captain's office, my confidant backbones gathered together and I immediately explained the situation. Everyone agreed with my decision to send troops to help Old Tucker's granddaughter.

It should be explained here that it is not that the great revolutionary friendship led to everyone's unity and morality, but that we have already had a quarrel with the Spanish, and the enemy of the enemy is a friend, let alone a kinship and affair! There is no reason not to help her!

The ship slowly started, and I could see that Old Tucker looked very excited! After all, this is his only relative in the world. He can get news that she is so close to her and has a chance to save her life with his own hands. How could he not be excited?

But excitement alone cannot solve the problem, we need a plan!

What about to come out? I thought. My eyes went north along Cape Verde on the sea. Suddenly, my eyes stayed on an island chain between Cape Verde and Madeira!

I couldn't help but stand up, slowly stretched out my right hand, and slowly pointed my index finger on the Canary Islands!

Everyone's eyes fell down there with my fingers, thinking.

Chen Kui was the first to speak: "Captain, I think it's OK! If we really fight, our ship will not be able to travel north. The more we go north, we can only get closer to the Spanish forces, so we will definitely retreat south!"

Mavie also said: "I have heard that the terrain of the waters in that area is quite complex and it is definitely a good place for raids!"

Huamei said again: "It is said that the Canary Islands are in war recently, and the Spanish and Portuguese fight fiercely. They can be considered as having a different dream!"

After hearing the news brought by everyone, I thought in my heart, and slowly, a plan came to my mind. So I made up my mind, clenched my fingers with my right hand into a fist, and hit it hard on the Canary Islands!

Target! Canary Islands!
Chapter completed!
