Chapter 177 Base

The helicopter was shaking in the dark night, and finally landed in a forest more than an hour later. I had no sense of direction at this time and didn't know where or where I was now. I just observed the surrounding terrain in the air before getting off the plane and found that this was a place quite similar to Vietnam.

This is the training habit of the People's Liberation Army. As early as the War of Resistance Against Japan, our army has always chosen places with similar terrain and climate as training sites before the war. Of course, this is reasonable, because this can enable the trained troops to adapt to the battlefield in the shortest time when they are put into the real battlefield. This time is no exception.

Braving the strong wind from the helicopter spiral, the soldiers and I followed Liu Shunyi and the guards with guns all the way. Perhaps it was a habit brought from the battlefield, so I looked at the surrounding environment while walking.

This is a very ordinary village, with 40 or 50 houses. Most of the houses are built with bamboo or wooden boards, and are distributed in a mess inside and outside the three triangular high grounds. At first glance, it looks like an ordinary mountain village. After careful analysis, they find that they seem to occupy the key points and traffic routes of each high ground... It can be imagined that if an enemy attacks here, these houses will transform into firepower points...

But... what makes me a little strange is what role can the firepower supported by these bamboo buildings or wooden houses play? If there is really an enemy attack, it wouldn’t be a few shells to solve the problem? Later I realized that things were not as simple as I thought! Because these houses just look like wooden houses from the outside.

"Captain Liu!" Several people with the appearance of cadres hurriedly came out to salute Liu Shunyi. Liu Shunyi nodded, and after returning a casual greeting, he took me and the guard into the room.

When I walked into the house, I realized the mystery. It turned out that the outside of these houses were bamboo and wooden boards, but the inside was made of fortifications made of reinforced concrete. The thickness was at least half a meter... If all the houses nearby were like this, then these three highlands were just fortresses made up of these numerous bunkers?

When I walked inside, I saw the radio station, telephone, map, sand table... it was like a combat command!

"Comrades!" Liu Shunyi stood in front of the sand table, waved at me and signaled me to walk in front, and then said loudly to the soldiers and cadres in the room: "Let me introduce you to you, Comrade Cui Wei, the captain of our special reconnaissance brigade! Welcome everyone!"

The applause of "Wow!" quickly rang out, and several cadres enthusiastically came up to me and shook hands with me.

"This is the battalion of the reconnaissance brigade!" Liu Shunyi said to me proudly, "How is it? Are you satisfied! I tell you... For this special reconnaissance brigade, we have brought you all the good things. You can't work hard for me. You have to make some appearances and achieve some results. Do you understand?"

"Yes!" I responded, but I felt a little dissatisfied. What is this called all good things? It's just radio stations, and so on. These things are at best just to solve some communication problems on the battlefield. What role can they play in special operations?

Later I realized that I was wrong. Liu Shunyi provided me with more than just the radio stations, phone numbers and maps I saw in front of me. In order to let us clearly understand the equipment and performance of the Vietnamese army, Liu Shunyi took great pains to collect various types of weapons seized by our army on the battlefield, such as SVD sniper rifles and submachine guns, which are all small things, as well as some weapons that I have never seen before, such as anti-tank missiles, and even a T62 tank, which can be driven...

"I'll introduce it to you!" Then Liu Shunyi took me to the cadres, pointed to one of the thick and heavy soldiers and said, "This is Comrade Li Qiao, the deputy captain of the reconnaissance brigade. Don't see him being a little stupid. He is an old scout, who has been a scout for eight years. This time, he brought his reconnaissance platoons to make several great achievements in this self-defense counterattack against Vietnam. The most beautiful battle was to blow up the Vietnamese Japanese ammunition depot and escape with all the soldiers of the platoon!"

"Hello Comrade Cui Wei!" Li Qiao walked up first and shook my hand and said, "The commander is really an over-the-top award. I have heard of your battle deeds. We are still far behind you in comparison with you!"

"Where are there!" I responded modestly, thinking to myself that there was an old scout as his deputy, so I would be much more relaxed in the future training.

"This is Comrade Ye Jianming, the logistics team leader!" The next person introduced a cadre wearing glasses, who looked like a tentman. Liu Shunyi laughed and said, "If you have any equipment or personnel needs, you can find him. He will contact us for solutions that can be solved, and we will try our best to solve it... and these are combat staff..."

Liu Shunyi introduced me one by one, but I was still as usual. As I was always there, I quickly became confused when there were too many people. After a long time, I only remembered a big sigh.

When Liu Shunyi introduced the last cadre with a pen on his pocket, I couldn't help but be stunned because I heard Liu Shunyi call him Political Commissar Yang.

"Hello Comrade Cui Wei!" Political Commissar Yang shook my hand seriously and said, "I was sent by my superiors to directly train the special reconnaissance brigade. I hope that in the future work and battles, we can cooperate sincerely and try our best to train a unit with strong military qualities and firm political stance, and use our achievements to report to our superiors and the Party Central Committee!"

I couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed when I listened to Political Commissar Yang's words, and at the same time I felt something was wrong.

What is a political commissar? The political commissar is the party representative. Our army has always been led by the party. It is obvious that the political commissar Yang is the party, and I am the gun. Simply put, I am the captain of the reconnaissance brigade and there is someone above me. I am not sure how to train or how to train. I may even be a trained object...

Sure enough, then he heard from Political Commissar Yang: "Considering that you have just returned from the battlefield, many of the comrades are still injured. I have investigated it. Although it is not serious, it may affect the training. In addition, the soldiers we selected from each unit are still on the way, so we tentatively scheduled a three-day holiday and start training on time in three days. I wonder if Captain Cui has any objection?"

"No objection!" I answered, and at the same time I smiled bitterly. I was still worried about whether I could be competent in training the special forces! I didn't expect that I didn't need to consider these things.

In fact, I should have thought that my superiors would never allow a battalion commander who only leads troops to fight on the battlefield to be responsible for training special forces that are related to the future and destiny of the country, although I have led the soldiers to fight many victories on the battlefield.

With a hint of unhappiness, the soldiers were still talking excitedly about the new environment. When they saw me coming back, they gathered around and asked in a slight manner:

"Battery Commander! How long will we train?"

"Yes! What can I go back and fight the Japanese again?"

"You said...what do we need to train in the future?"

...

"What's the noise?" I replied angrily: "Everyone is in a hurry to train, right? Then run around the village a few times?"

After I said this, the soldiers were speechless. There were at least one or two kilometers in a circle in this village. After these few laps, it took more than five kilometers of off-road. Although the soldiers could do it, no one wanted to suffer this crime at this time.

After the soldiers calmed down, I continued, "I've got the order and have a three-day rest. First, get familiar with the environment and take care of the wounds. Then start training in three days!"

"Okay!" The soldiers couldn't help but cheer.

Although it was a rest, freedom was not allowed to move at night, so the soldiers had to stay in the house to rest.

However, although we were stuck in the house, we didn't feel that it was uncomfortable. Instead, it should be said to be a kind of enjoyment. Because the environment here is much stronger than the anti-cannon hole on the battlefield, there is neither the sound of gunfire nor the need to worry about being attacked by the Vietnamese army at all times. There are few mosquitoes and insects, and there are also dry and soft quilts... This can be said to be a paradise for us.

So the soldiers chatted happily with cigarettes and chatted for a while, and then wrapped themselves in the quilt and slept one by one. Not long after, snoring sounds rang out in the barracks, but I was the only one lying on the bed, my eyes widened and I couldn't sleep.

Who is Political Commissar Yang? Has he fought a war? As a battalion commander, I know very well that cadres from our army at the battalion level basically stay in the command center, so even if he fought, he never went to the battlefield in person!

During the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, Political Commissar Yang was not as old as those who participated in that war. He should have been a child at that time!

Let someone who has never fought a war train those of us who have returned from the battlefield? Let a person who talks on paper point fingers at us soldiers who have rolled out of the rain of bullets? And also train special forces? I dare not think about this in the future!

No matter how many of him are! These are not something I can decide. Now we can only take one step at a time! No matter what, we are in the rear now, and no matter how hard he tries, it is better than on the battlefield in Vietnam.

Thinking of this, I turned my head and pulled the quilt on and fell asleep...
