Chapter 153 Questions

Chapter 153 Question

Chapter 153 Question

We did not let the Vietnamese people go because they would likely report the situation of our troops to other Vietnamese troops as soon as they left. Our whereabouts were fully exposed in the battle just now, but they would also report some useful information to the enemy, such as the number of our troops, firepower configuration, etc. At this critical moment, I cannot take such a big risk because we cannot afford to lose.

Of course, we cannot shoot them all. Although we are not ruthless to the prisoners of the Vietnamese army, we cannot use such ruthlessness to ordinary people. So we can only tie them up with both hands and let the regiment command headquarters escort them to the border.

"Captain Cui!" While I was busy organizing soldiers to build positions on Pingding Mountain, Liu Yun and Yichen suddenly appeared in front of me.

"Why haven't you left yet?" I couldn't help but say anxiously: "It's too late if you don't leave. The other soldiers are retreating. Why are you here to come up?"

Seeing that Liu Yun didn't move for a long time, I shouted at them angrily: "Go away! Why are you still standing there?"

"Captain Captain Cui!" Liu Yun hesitated for a long time before he mustered up the courage to walk up to me and asked, "I'm waiting for you to say something. I'll leave immediately after you answer me!"

"What are you waiting for now!" I asked impatiently: "Say, what are you talking about?"

"Captain Cui..." Liu Yun gritted his teeth and finally made up his mind to raise his chest and approach me and asked, "I want to know...will you... marry me after returning to China?"

I was stunned when I heard this. I really didn't expect Liu Yun to ask this question at this time. In fact, there has been a layer of paper between Liu Yun and I. It is not Liu Yun's problem, but I have a psychological barrier. It is precisely because of this obstacle that I have never dared to face this problem.

Maybe if there were no other situations, we might just go on like this and leave it alone. However, at this last critical moment, Liu Yun forced him to confess everything to me...

I wanted to tell Liu Yun that I couldn't because I didn't know how to face my old subordinate Liu Shunyi, who is her father. I couldn't imagine how awkward it would be if I called Liu Shunyi as my father-in-law. But then I found that Ariel Chen winked at me behind Liu Yun, and shook her head slightly to signal me not to refuse.

I quickly understood Ariel Yichen's thoughts. Liu Yun was a relatively introverted person. We can't imagine how courage she needed to confess her love in front of me. Moreover, people in this era are common for chastity and other pursuit of death because of feelings. This would be fine if it was normal, but now we are in Vietnam and are in danger... If something happens, this problem will be big!

So I sighed, nodded and said, "I promise you!"

"Really! You really agreed!" Liu Yun's originally nervous face suddenly seemed to be blooming with a flower. He grabbed my hand and said, "Captain Cui, I... I am really happy, I am really worried that you will refuse..."

"How could that happen?" I smiled relaxedly and looked at Ariel with a look of relief behind Liu Yun. She seemed to have a secret breath of relief, but there was an indescribable rosy on her face.

"Okay! You guys go quickly!" I urged: "I also have to command the troops to fight! The Japanese devils will come up soon. If they don't leave, there will be no hurry to come!"

"Yes!" Liu Yun responded excitedly, turned around and ran to Ariel's side, holding her hand and shouted like a little girl: "Sister Ariel, he agreed..."

"You're so beautiful!" Yichen replied with a smile: "You can go back with confidence now! If you don't leave, it will delay your sweetheart from fighting!"

"Yeah!" Liu Yun nodded vigorously, then ran back and said to me as if he was remembering something, "You must come back, I'll wait for you!"

"Go away!" I was so impatient that I thought to myself that this woman was really troublesome. No matter what she did, she seemed to be able to turn back three times.

After giving me a few more words, Liu Yun joined the retreating team with Yi Chen, and waved to me reluctantly when he turned into the valley...

Looking at their departure backs, I couldn't help frowning. What I promised was so happy, but I didn't know what to do after returning to China. But then I thought about it - don't care about him! I don't know if I can go back alive! I also care about whether to get married when I go back. And Liu Yun is nothing bad, just marry him. She is not as terrible as the Japanese. At most, I'll call him the commander when I see Liu Shunyi in the future!

"Hey, this matter has really happened!" Just as I was stunned, the people from my hometown came up with envy and said, "When will I want to be a matchmaker for you? I didn't expect there was no need... I said, battalion commander, you are too inferior, and you have to let the big girl speak first..."

"Go and go...what do you know? You're not ready to go!"

"Yes!" Knowing that the situation was urgent, the people in my hometown did not dare to speak too much. After responding, they joined the ranks of building fortifications again.

"Woo..." At this time, the whistling of shells suddenly came from the sky, and the soldiers fell down on the ground one after another. Then there was a roar, and the shells exploded near us.

"Damn it!" I couldn't help but curse. The Japanese invaders were so fucking fast that we didn't even have time to dig trenches.

"Battery Commander! Battalion Commander..." Someone behind me shouted at me. I turned around and saw two guards waving at me in a dug anti-aircraft hole.

I was about to rush in when a shell suddenly burst into the hole with a bang... In just a blink of an eye, the two guards who had been following me were lying in the anti-aircraft hole covered in blood. As the anti-aircraft hole collapsed, their bodies were quickly submerged in the soil.

That's true on the battlefield. Sometimes we thought that a good bunker would cause the shells to explode directly. Sometimes we were exposed to the position and were bombed several times and it was fine. This time we obviously encountered the former situation.

What a great two soldiers, they said they were gone! After regretting for the two guards for a while, I seized a moment and rushed to a crater at the front of the position, then raised my telescope and looked at the foot of the mountain with the soil gushing over like sea water...

In the smoke of gunpowder, I saw stars and lights everywhere at the foot of the mountain. They were moving towards us like fluorescent fireflies like flashes of my telescope. But I understood that it was not a fluorescent fireflies, but a flashlight fired by the Vietnamese army.

Obviously, the Vietnamese army knew that we were also confused after breaking through the Tongcheng defense line. At this time, in order to catch up with us quickly, they all started to march. However, I think part of the reason why they are so fearless is that this is the time for their artillery bombing.

After observing for a while, I could feel relieved. As I expected, since the road along the way was blown up by our engineers, the Vietnamese army did not have any heavy equipment like tanks. If it were just to deal with the infantry of the Vietnamese army, I was still very confident in the unit in my hands. What I was worried about was whether Xu Fan's team could defend their positions...

Our mission is to cover the retreat of the main force, so we cannot only defend Pingdingshan, the high ground. The reason is very simple. If we do this, the Vietnamese army can completely bypass Pingdingshan and pursue our main force. The result is that while our main force is chased by the Vietnamese army, Pingdingshan will also become an isolated firepower point, and we will be surrounded by the Vietnamese army and will never be able to go back.

Taking these problems into consideration, I spread my troops along the Pingding Mountain line and the nameless highland more than 500 meters away, occupying more than a dozen mountains of all sizes and forming two lines of defense in front of the Vietnamese army.

My plan is actually very simple. Just like when the volunteers retreated on the battlefield of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, one of the front lines of defense guards for a period of time and then took the initiative to give up the position and retreat to the third line under the cover of the second line of defense. In this way, the two teams of soldiers repeatedly fought and retreated while fighting, which not only prevented the Vietnamese army from advancing, but also allowed our troops to evacuate safely.

Of course, the prerequisite for us to evacuate safely is that our own troops cannot be in chaos.

This is also what I worry about the most, because the defense method in such a movement seems very simple, but the requirements for the quality of the troops are very high. If there is a force that is afraid to fight or cannot figure out which high ground it should seize in the darkness and chaos, then there will be a gap in the defense line soon, and our army will be divided and surrounded by the Vietnamese army and the consequences will be unimaginable.

But at this time, I could no longer think about it. This is the best way to do so. If I want the main force to retreat safely, I can only do this!

The cannon sound stopped after not long. I think this is because the Vietnamese army rushed from the mountain road and did not carry many shells. The other is because they were eager to "solve" us and then chased our main force.

Although our army did win many victories in the counterattack, the performance of the infantry was not satisfactory. In theory, this is normal. Basically, no one in the army has practical experience. The veterans left behind during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea have become old men and women who cannot go to the battlefield (except me), and there are many new recruits who have not even completed basic military training. It is good that such a unit can perform like this. It is not surprising that the Vietnamese army will underestimate the enemy.

However, this seems to be a good thing for us now, because I found that the Vietnamese troops did not mean to destroy the flashlight at all. They actually underestimated the enemy so much that they used flashlights to search and advance...
