Chapter twenty two

Chapter 22: Shocking the Snake

At four o'clock in the morning, after a day and night of lurking, we only rested for more than four hours before entering the lurking position again. However, this lurking mission is much easier than yesterday, because this time our goal is not to kill the enemy, but to let the soldiers learn to observe.

For this reason, I placed the soldiers on a relatively safe reverse slope position. Here, even if the soldiers were discovered, they could withdraw back to the safe zone as soon as possible. It was difficult for artillery fire to pose a threat to the soldiers on the reverse slope. I also ordered the soldiers not to shoot at will. We entered the lurking position in the dark. With the soldiers' lurking skills, I believe that as long as they do not fire, even if there are US snipers lurking on the opposite position, it will be difficult to find them.

These arrangements are for their safety. I don’t think that when they were still studying, someone fell under the gun of the US sniper.

In order to facilitate the soldiers to observe the enemy's positions in detail, I also specially asked the division headquarters to equip each of them with a telescope. Although the telescope is not a high-tech equipment, it must be only available in the volunteer army's team at the battalion level or above, so the number is not large. Fortunately, Commander Wang cooperated with all his strength and immediately mobilized the entire army to gather a pair of telescopes for each of us. However, it is said that for more than thirty pairs of telescopes, Commander Wang plundered half of the cadres of the division...

Observing the environment of the opposite positions and drawing them down, this trick is basically useless for the US military.

Because the US military bombards our positions several times almost every day, their artillery soldiers will occasionally shoot one or two shells at our positions when they are idle. This means that our positions have to change several times every day. If they want to use this method to find the hiding position of our sharpshooters, even if they take our positions with a camera, they will find that almost every place is different when they go to the battlefield again. The result is only one, that is, every corner and every inch of land may be the hiding place of the volunteer sharpshooters.

In fact, the US snipers do the same. I knew that during World War II, US snipers began to use their cameras to take surveillance areas, then compared photos from different times, analyzed the differences in the environment, and then found the position of the enemy snipers. However, this method is obviously inappropriate on the battlefield where our position is overturned several times every day by artillery shells. Even if the sharpshooters of the Volunteer Army accidentally left traces around the lurking position, the US artillery fire will "help" us to "destroy the scene."

The Volunteer Army has no problem with this. The Volunteer Army has always saved its own ammunition. Every time it bombards the enemy's shelling, it has a target and purpose. Moreover, even if it bombards the enemy's positions, the amount of ammunition is not large, so the environmental changes on the US positions have never been great. This is why until now, there are still trees and bushes on the US positions.

Everything has "one advantage and one disadvantage". This sentence is really philosophical. Who would have thought that one day the powerful artillery fire and sufficient supplies of the US military will become the "illegal" on their sniper battlefield?

I lay in the snow, looked at the enemy's position through the scope, and then added a few strokes to the notebook in front of me.

We all chose white covers for notebooks and pencils. Some soldiers did not have notebooks, so they used file paper to cut and bind them together, while the pencils were carefully wrapped in white cloth.

Only then did I realize another benefit of the scope. With it, when I observe the enemy's positions, I don't need to frequently exchange between rifles, pencils, and telescopes. These actions may be easy in normal times, but in this slight move, it may cause enemy snipers to discover. Doing it a few more times will almost make people crazy!

After drawing a place, I carefully moved the sniper rifle to an angle, and then continued to observe every detail of the enemy's position.

According to modern data statistics, during World War II, an average of 25,000 bullets was consumed on the battlefield, which increased to 50,000 on the Korean battlefield. During the US-Vietnam War, it even reached the point where 200,000 bullets were required to eliminate an enemy.

What does it mean to destroy an enemy with 50,000 rounds? The total bullets of the m1 rifle weigh 22.66g, which means that on the Korean battlefield, it takes almost 2,000 kilograms of ammunition to kill an enemy. But for snipers, it only takes a few bullets to destroy an enemy on average.

It is precisely because of such high-precision lethality that snipers are called "ghosts on the battlefield" and "invisible killers". If snipers from both sides meet on the battlefield, they often find the opponent first and shoot the opponent first, whoever can win the final victory and survive in this showdown.

Therefore, in sniper battles, the most important thing is often not whether the marksmanship is good or not, but "observation", "analysis" and then correctly judge the opponent's position.

The shortcomings of the scope are that its multiples and field of view are too small, which made me have to adjust the position of the muzzle again after a while to complete my masterpiece.

But it doesn't matter. Anyway, I'm still worried about having nothing to do when I lurking! It's still very satisfying for me to find something to enjoy, although this matter is just a book and a pen.

I have to admit that my painting skills are not good, because what appears in the notebook in front of me seems to be very different from the scenery in front of me. What makes me feel a little ashamed is that the straight and tall pine trees are a little shaky in my paintings. But these don’t matter, because the purpose of our painting is not to be a painter, but to help observe and remember.

People are lazy and are easily deceived by their own eyes. The scenery in front of them seems to be nothing special at first glance, and it seems like this is what it should be. But when you really want to draw it, you will find that you have missed many small details. Even I am the same. For example, when I was drawing, I found that there were several rows of footprints behind the barbed wire that were almost covered by the wind and snow. I think that should be left by the sentries of the US military when they came out to check the barbed wire.

When the pencil made a rustling sound on the notebook, it reminded me of a dream I had when I was a child. Like all other children, my head was filled with longing when I was a child. One of them was to be a painter and draw all the beauty of the world, people and things I wanted to remember. I thought that if I knew that there was something in this world called a camera, I would not be sad because of the teacher's blow.

As expected, this dream was finally hit when I handed over a teacher’s sketch because no teacher dared to admit that it was me...

Since it was time to spend time, I drew flying bullets and shells on my notebook and radiated soil, and my mouth was filled with a low voice: "Bang bang... wu... boom!" Of course, only I can hear this sound.

This is my bad habit when drawing.

When I was a child, the teacher once said: "A great painter will hear the sound of 'huh' when painting style, when painting rain, when painting, people will hear the sound of 'huh' when painting, and when painting lightning, people will not help but cover their ears!"

In order to let the students around me know that I am a very powerful painter, I always add sound effects to it when I draw, and over time it becomes a habit.

The gunshot of "Bang!" woke me up from my childish fun.

This is the gunshot of the m1 rifle. Perhaps it is because the Americans have developed technology and fine workmanship. The gunshot of the m1 rifle is still different from the gunshot of the Mosinnagan rifle. Because the gunpowder produced by the Americans is relatively purified, the gunshots are crisp and loud, burned more fully, and there is less fire and blue smoke from the muzzle. The gunshot of the Mosinnagan is relatively dull, with relatively more fire and blue smoke, which is also related to the Soviet Union's pursuit of cheap and quantity military industry at that time.

I have been fighting for so long, and I am still holding an American M1 rifle, so I can still distinguish the gunshots of these two rifles.

Was it our army's sharpshooter discovered?

I don't know, because the gunshot was coming from another position a few hundred meters away, and I couldn't see what was happening there from where I was. This made me feel the desire to retreat to the backscene and run over to see the situation, but I finally held it back.

What a sniper needs is patience. He can't say that the enemy's shot is just a warning to the snake, bluffing, and waiting for a target like me who can't help but feel angry when I hear the gunshot.

So I calmed down and took a long breath of cold air to calm down the impulse in my heart.

Sometimes lurking in a safe position is not all a good thing, because it makes it possible for us to transfer our positions, and I think this is exactly what the US military wants. Fortunately, the soldiers have been fighting the lurking battle and have all had this patience, so there is still no movement on the battlefield.

"Dadada..." Not long after, there was another machine gun sound, and then there was another strange roar of artillery shells in the sky. Several artillery shells exploded on several positions of our army without any targets.

Seeing these actions of the enemy made me feel relieved, and a hanging heart was relieved. Because this proved that the enemy was "shocking the snake" rather than discovering a certain volunteer sharpshooter.

However, this also shows that there are indeed snipers on the opposite US military position, and it is very likely that there are more than one.

I glanced at the shadow of the stone beside me from the corner of my eyes to judge the height of the sun.

Now it's noon, and I quickly came to this conclusion. At the same time, I laughed in my heart. These snipers from the US military are not masters. They will use the move of "shocking the snake", which is to tell us that they are impatient to wait.

But it is no wonder that if we Chinese people may not be as rich Americans as compared to technology, equipment, and body shape, but we have never been afraid of anyone compared to endurance.

Moreover, American education has always paid more attention to individuality, freedom and imagination. Under the influence of this atmosphere, most Americans are more open, lively and active, so it is really difficult for them to lie down on this battlefield without moving. Isn’t that? It’s only been half a day, and they are a little unbearable and want to use these shells to force us out.

endure!

In the showdown between snipers, who often loses patience first will turn into a cold corpse. Since I fought with the British sniper a few months ago, I have fixed him as a master. But it is obvious that these American snipers opposite me still cannot reach that level.

Where is the enemy's sniper?

I turned my eyes to the picture I drew, and then compared the scenery in front of me with the picture in my hand one by one. Trees are still trees, snow or snow, and bushes are still bushes... Although the US snipers are not masters, they have not made such low-level mistakes. They are like snipers in World War I, carrying a small tree in disguise and running around the world. It looks like holding a legendary "invisible grass", walking and shouting: "You can't see me, you can't see me..."

After a while of comparison, I still didn't find any difference. I couldn't help but sigh, let's forget it! This time we came out not to fight the enemy, but to learn to observe. Maybe the US sniper was ambushing other places, and the snow in front of me was completely empty!

But at this moment, half of my head suddenly stretched out in front of the trench on the top of the US military's mountain position. My brows couldn't help but frowned. The first thing I thought of was that this was a fake target because it was too obvious.

Sure enough, the target was walking back and forth in the trench with a gun on his back, like a wandering sentry. But as long as I looked at its unnatural movements, I knew it was a puppet made by the Americans. These Americans were idle and had nothing to do to clean up these gadgets to perform for us. But their acting skills were becoming more and more familiar and their performances became more and more natural. If the sharpshooters of our army had not had such experience, they might have really deceived it.

No!

Then I quickly thought that the enemy would extend a puppet here to test it, and the purpose must be to attract the volunteer sharpshooters to shoot. In other words, there must be US snipers lurking on the opposite position now, otherwise it would be meaningless for them to do so.

Thinking of this, I immediately focused my attention in the scope again.

To be honest, if the enemy enters the lurking position in the dark like us, and then lie motionlessly in the snow, no matter how I am a god, I can't find him, just like the other party can't find us. This has nothing to do with the sniping level, nor has it to do with the lurking ability, because when entering the position in the middle of the night, the heavy snow before dawn will cover up all traces left by man.

At this moment, we are completely patient, to see who can't hold back first or to see who makes mistakes first.

At this time, a foreign object on the snow suddenly entered my sight. It was only a small one, even in my scope, it was only a small color. In order to see what it was, I slowly picked up the telescope placed in front of me.

There is also a white cloth outside the telescope. In order to prevent the telescope from reflecting sunlight and exposing the target, we specially covered a white veil in front of the camera and tied it tightly to prevent the wind from blowing away. Although this will affect the clarity of the telescope, if we want to observe the target more carefully and not be discovered by the enemy, we can only do this.

That's...the packaging of compressed cookies!

As the magnification of the telescope continued to increase, I finally saw the small dot floating in the wind. I have also eaten the compressed biscuits of the US military, so I am quite familiar with this packaging. I didn’t have the chance to see it at all, but coincidentally, this packaging floated here with the wind and made a dead branch hook up!

It's time for dinner now, and the US sniper must be hungry and started to have lunch. After eating, he might think the packaging is translucent and very small, no one would notice it, or he thought that such a strong wind would soon blow the packaging far away, so he threw it away...

But he didn't expect that his habit of throwing garbage casually might kill him!

I naturally moved my eyes to the wind, but unfortunately, I saw nothing but a few pine trees there. I moved a little further and turned into another valley.

He could not lurk in that valley, and I quickly made a judgment, because if he lurked there, his sight would be blocked by the protruding ridge, and all he could see was a small part of our position, so the action of their use of puppets to lead our sharpshooters to shoot was meaningless.

So I focused my eyes on the packaging bag and the valley and searched repeatedly. I was sure that he was hiding within this short distance, but I couldn't find anything. The whole snow was very flat and natural, and I couldn't find any artificial traces. This made me feel a sense of powerlessness and anxiety, as if success was right in front of me, but I was invisible and intangible!

When I searched the snow twice with my eyes twice, I finally decided to give up.

I put down the telescope dejectedly and cursed in my heart. This damn American's disguise technology is so good. I have locked him in this range of only about a hundred meters, and I can't find him!
